Biographer who caught Trump lying 30 times: He tried to ‘intimidate’ me by lying about taping conversations

Biiographer Tim O’Brien revealed on Sunday that now-President Donald Trump lied about taping him in an effort to intimidate him.

In 2005, Trump sued O’Brien over his book TrumpNation: The Art of Being the Donald, which suggested that the real estate mogul was worth only $250 million. But

the author turned the tables on Trump and cornered him in a deposition for making at least 30 false statements.

“His loose association with the truth

    becomes problematic

when he’s confronted with do ents,”

O’Brien explained to CNN host Brian Stelter on Sunday.

“We’ve had decades now of Trump frequently lying or exaggerating about a wide range of things.”

“But when he sat down for the deposition, my attorney said, ‘Mr. Trump, do you have a taping system?'” he recalled.

“And he said no. And [my attorney] said, ‘Why did you say this to Mr. O’Brien.’ And he essentially said, ‘I wanted to intimidate him.'”

“I think he is a showman and that he is aware of the way that shows can distract people,” Klein told Adams.

“That is the story of his business.

He has always understood that he could distract his investors and bankers, his tenants, his clients from the underlying unsoundness of his business, just by putting on the Trump show.

That is the core of Trump.

He is undoubtedly an idiot, but do not underestimate how good he is at that.”

Trump is likely to get much, much worse. Here are a few big things to watch for.

Politico’s Playbook this morning tries to sum up the thinking among Republicans. The gist:

Republicans are increasingly worried they will lose the House amid a “toxic political environment that appears to be worsening.”

    They cite the

possibility that they won’t secure any serious legislative wins, as well as “serious concerns” about “more revelations” coming on Trump.

In the background, special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s investigation “remains the wild card.”
The tapes Trump hinted at turn out not to exist.

Trump tries to get the special prosecutor fired.

WHAT HAPPENS IF TRUMP TESTIFIES UNDER OATH? Trump has now said that he’s “100 percent” ready to testify under oath

GOP SENATOR SAYS TRUMP PRESSURE WAS ‘WRONG’:

    * DUMB GOP SPIN ABOUT TRUMP AND COMEY CONTINUES

    * TRUMP HIT WITH NEW LAWSUIT

    * GOP HEALTH BILL COULD CRAMP WORKERS’ FLEXIBILITY:

The New York Times talks to people who are worried that if the GOP repeal bill goes through, it could limit the flexibility of workers to move from job to job or start their own businesses

    * REPUBLICANS WORRY ABOUT MISSTEPS IN GEORGIA:

    * AND TRUMP BERATES PRIEBUS FOR DYSFUNCTION

Fox hypes misleading job creation numbers to credit Trump on the economy

President Donald Trump took to Twitter on June 11 to echo misleading claims from Fox News that job growth in his first four full months in office was proof of his economic success.

Both Fox and the president failed to notice, however, that

it was the weakest February through May stretch of job growth since the end of the Great Recession.

, hyped that 594,000 jobs had been created in Trump’s first four full months in office, and slammed media outlets for reporting that Trump’s economic agenda has stalled

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the economy in fact created 594,000 jobs from February through May of this year.

More jobs were created during the same four-month window in each of the past seven years under President Barack Obama.

Trash is SUCH a deal maker, we are SICK of winning

Sanofi rejects US Army request for ‘fair’ pricing for a Zika vaccine

anofi Pasteur has rejected a request from the US Army to set an affordable US price for a Zika virus vaccine that the company is developing with American taxpayer funds, prompting an angry response from Senator Bernie Sanders.

For months, Sanders has pushed the Army to negotiate a more favorable agreement with Sanofi, which is one of the world’s largest vaccine makers and which has already received a $43 million US research grant. But Sanofi recently refused, according to an Army timeline of events reviewed by STAT.

The rejection comes amid negotiations the Army is holding to grant Sanofi a license to make and sell a Zika vaccine.

But the prospect of giving Sanofi an exclusive license to sell a potential blockbuster — depending upon how extensively the virus travels — at whatever price it wants, has upset various lawmakers and advocacy groups, who are pressing the Army to insist on affordable pricing.

    As a result,
the deal, which could provide the company with another $130 million in government funds,

has sparked still wider debate about pricing for products that are discovered with US taxpayer dollars.

More evidence, long udinal, the Trash'a brain is ed

Trump wasn’t always so linguistically challenged. What could explain the change?

“ … there is no collusion between certainly myself and my campaign, but I can always speak for myself — and the Russians, zero.”

When President Trump offered that response to a question at a press conference last week, it was the latest example of his tortured syntax, mid-thought changes of subject, and apparent trouble formulating complete sentences, let alone a coherent paragraph, in unscripted speech.

He was not always so linguistically challenged.

STAT reviewed decades of Trump’s on-air interviews and compared them to Q&A sessions since his inauguration. The differences are striking and unmistakable.

Research has shown that changes in speaking style can result from cognitive decline.

    STAT therefore asked experts in neurolinguistics and cognitive assessment, as well as psychologists and psychiatrists, to compare Trump’s speech from decades ago to that in 2017;

they all agreed there had been a deterioration, and some said it could reflect changes in the health of Trump’s brain.

Trump's Stalwart Base Is Deserting Him, According To A New Poll; White House Freaking Out

Trusting polls is never a good idea when it comes to Donald Trump.

But it would be delicious if Nate Silver is right and the people who would "walk over glass" for Trump are deserting him.

    Axios published this report:

Sources both inside and close to the White House are worrying about a loss of energy among the President's base — or as one advisor colorfully put it, the folks who'd "walk over glass" for Trump.

Two trends that are troubling them:
Trump's strong approval has fallen quickly:

As Nate Silver outlines in this late May article led "Donald Trump's base is shrinking":

"There's been a considerable decline in the number of Americans who strongly approve of Trump, from a peak of around 30 percent in February to just 21 or 22 percent of the electorate now.

(The decline in Trump's strong approval ratings is larger than the overall decline in his approval ratings, in fact.)

Far from having unconditional love from his base, Trump has already lost almost a third of his strong support."

Slide among whites without college degrees:

Only 46% of whites with no college degree approve of the way Trump is handling his job as president, according to the most recent Quinnipiac University poll.

In the same poll in early March, 60 percent of whites without college degrees — a group that was key to Trump's victory — approved of his job performance.

Currently the only thing more unpopular than Trump himself is his health care bill, which has an approval rating of 17% at last glance.

Well, of course that didn’t take long.

    Liar? Yup.

    Coward? Bigtime.

One wonders how Republican voters feel about having such a coward as their leader.

    Like most cowards these days,

Trump hides behind Twitter and often talks a big game… until it comes to actually manning up in the real world:

President Trump will not testify before Congress under oath,

a development that legal experts say was expected but that illustrates the pitfalls of the president’s tendency to shoot from the hip in public remarks. Trump said at a Friday press conference that he would “100%” agree to give sworn testimony in response to former FBI director James Comey’s allegations last week.

    ...
“I think that was expected,” said national security attorney Bradley Moss…

“This Presidency is marked like none other by a White House tendency to reinterpret the specific words of the President.
    WTF?

Every time that happens its credibility suffers,” Zaid said in an email.

GOGOL’S “DEAD SOULS” SHOULD BE ON TRUMP’S SUMMER READING LIST

Donald Trump may not realize it, but he has adopted the strategy that was recommended to Pavel Ivanovich Chichikov, the shady protagonist of Nikolai Gogol’s “Dead Souls,” whose lawyer (in the translation by Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky) advises him that

“as soon as you see that the case is reaching a denouement and can conveniently be resolved,

make sure—not really to justify and defend yourself—no,

but simply to confuse things by introducing new and even unrelated issues.”

The aim is “to confuse, to confuse, nothing more . . .

to introduce into the case some other, unrelated cir stances that will entangle other people in it, to make it complicated.”

That’s an excellent way to stay one or two steps ahead, although the approach is fallible—after all, you may run out of places to step.

    Trump keeps up the confusion

When US banks were refusing to loan Trash any more "lost $100Ms" ...

Over the next seven days before Christmas, Barrack and his lieutenant, Bill Rogers, would jet from New York to Los Angeles, Taiwan, London and Saudi Arabia, begging billionaires to buy the loans and keep the bankers from Trump's throat.

"He nearly killed me that week," Rogers says now, recounting the frenzied middle-of-the-night flights that kept the $4.5 billion West Side Railyards site from being Trump's burial ground.

"There's one person in this world who has historically had a non-fighting way of working with Donald -- and being successful."

That was back in 1994 when bankers wanted to be done with one of New York’s worst businessmen, Donald Trump.

    Sadly,
s bags like Trump tend to get buoyed by other s bags like Barrack.

On Thursday, June 8, Reveal News published an exposé by Aaron Glanz that revealed how

Thomas J. Barrack had created one of the largest s lord rental schemes in the United States.

Most Think Trump Attempted to Obstruct Justice

A new Public Policy Polling survey finds

49% of voters think President Trump obstructed justice, to just 41% who don’t think he did.

    Also interesting:

Only 37% of voters say they think Trump is honest, as compared to 56% who say he’s not.

And for the second month in a row a

plurality support for impeachment: 47% are in support compared to 43% who are opposed.

Most Trump Real Estate Deals to Buyers Who Shield Their Iden y

“Since President Trump won the Republican nomination, the majority of his companies’ real estate sales are to secretive s companies that obscure the buyers’ iden ies,” a USA Today investigation has found.

“Over the last 12 months, about 70% of buyers of Trump properties were limited liability companies – corporate en ies that allow people to purchase property without revealing all of the owners’ names.

That compares with about 4% of buyers in the two years before.”

These are not normal “presidential” declarations—not in form, and not in premise.

To reiterate, the man quite obviously has something wrong with him.

    He is publicly paranoid.

He lies constantly and demands constant admiration from those around him.

It's a bit beyond "this man does not have a presidential temperament," though that itself should be sufficient.

It's a narcissistic spiral of rage and self-delusion.

He has repeatedly declared that he is the smartest person in any room, and surrounds himself only with similar geniuses.

The only explanation for the bad news and criticism flooding over his White House, therefore, is that it is all faked to make him look bad.

While this is the common thought process of the red-faced American bunker dweller, it is not normal logic for any supposedly functioning member of society.

The man remains paranoid and only barely hinged, and we cannot suppose his behavior will improve as the pressures of the office continue to rapidly mount.

    He might indeed fire the special counsel;

he might ins ute a brand new war just to bask in the praise of his generals.

There are no limits, and no external Republican forces willing to rein the lunatic in if he were to do any of those lunatic things.
