    I read it more as: Manu being a free agent means that he completed his contract with the Spurs and is free to listen to offers and to decide what he wants to do.

    It seems more like just a clarification of what free agency is.

    Actually, Manu has a somewhat proprietary ("fatherly") interest in Tiago as a fellow South American.

    He'll be more likely to take a discount because the Spurs took care of his friend.

    But, of course, you don't get that (at least not yet).
