Damn. Been at the house in Colorado for a week. Low in the 30s at night, high in the 60-low 70s. Spending the night in Amarillo on the way back to . Just found out today my AC at home is out. Gonna be a big suck.

The reptiles, bullsnakes, rat snakes, rattlesnakes... the big barn snakes have not caught up yet. I imagine they should increase by the end of the summer because there is a ton of food to be eaten.

Mountain lions move into our valley in the winter especially following the deer out of the snowed in higher elevations. We had a huge snowfall this winter and even had about 4' at the house where I am at. More like 10 feet at CB. Lakes are all full again after several years of semi drought.

The afternoon rains are normal all summer on the western slope where we are. Thats why the wildflowers are so amazing in July.

That was a wet bulb of 82.5F yesterday night at its worst. Two days ago it was 83.8F at its worst when it was 101F with a dewpoint of 77F.

I was just helping some friends around Fort Collins. Eastern plains it’s still raining. It’s as green as I have ever seen it. Flying over all that brown and it’s shockingly green closer to the mountains. I was in awe.

Yeah CB is a great ski area. I have skied almost every big resort in Colorado and CB was my all time favorite. Great black and double black runs. Summertime is amazing. You would love the mountain biking. They have extensive networks of trails. It's also the wildflower capital of Colorado.

Yeah I saw some raised “boardwalks” through the snow and found out that was part of the system.
I was never an off road/or bmxbiker as a kid like a bunch of my friends who also liked being outdoors. My lack of experience could be a big problem. But I certainly could get into shape given the al ude.
Being a once a year skier I would not touch one whole part of CB with double diamonds. I like the long drawn out slopes you can get on the Paradise lift. If I skied consistently up there I would have already hurt myself. As it stands my knees and endurance are very good so I figure I would stay that way. It’s almost a given if I lived there I would already have been injured and would not stop skiing after recovering. I also would have learned how to fly fish well if I lived up there. And probably been a river kayaker instead of an ocean kayaker. Surprisingly I have learned how to read water fairly well just by kayaking the Devils and Llano rivers a number of times. I like the sal er fishing much more than fresh. That would not be the case if I lived in Colorado most likely. (Or any big western State with trout)

At least the humidity is going down. Still high as but it's 72 degrees right now with the temp at 97 vs a couple of days ago when the dewpoint was 77 with a temp of 101. Even 102 with a 72 dewpoint isn't going to look too bad compared with 101 with a 77 degree dewpoint the other day, though I hope the dewpoint drops maybe into the high 60s by the time it's 102 here today.

Both the Taylor and Gunnison are gold metal systems and if I'm not feeling that ambitious I can catch decent rainbows and browns right in my backyard Have a Polaris RZR for exploring all the offroad mountain trails. This area and the Ouray/silverton area are my favorite places in Colorado.

Yes I know they don’t breed as often.
But I did not know I would not see any reptile increase by the end of the summer.
We will see Dr. Snake, field ecologist.
So there will be no increase. Got it.

Also my observations are around a barn area. They snakes might be populated, but are not concentrated around the barn because the vegetation is supplying plenty of food in the entire system. The barn is not a gathering spot right now.

There are a few places higher up where there are brookies. You tend to find bookies either in smaller, higher feeder streams or stocked high country lakes. They dont seem to compete in the bigger water.

No, just 9 knee replacements from the staph infection that we could never get rid of.

That is were I caught them in Lake City. Away from the city and up in the mountains. They were tiny. In Yellowstone we caught a bunch in a place called pocket lake. 14-15 inch fish! But Yellowstone is highly regulated. They want the main lake full of cutthroat. They make you take the Laketrout out.

There are a few cuts and cutbows around where I am. I caught an 18" cut once below Taylor Dam at the Hog Trough. Was surprised to find one there. The Hog Trough is famous for huge rainbows. The site record 30+ pound rainbow was caught there.

I completely forgot about some of the species I had not seen before. I caught these hybrids that were beautiful in the Grand Mesa system of lakes and rivers. They were incredibly beautiful. Had more orange and green than rainbows? What are those?

Might have been the Hofer hybrids? Because of whirling disease the state hatcheries have been trying to cross the colorado rainbows with whirling resistant other rainbow strains.
