5 Things I Learned at the UA Dallas Camp (Hook'em 365)
1. The 2019 class in Texas is absolutely loaded- I've already been extremely impressed with Roschon Johnson, but the 2019 kids in the Dallas region were absolute studs. Where do I even begin.... 2019 TE Austin Stonger is probably the best TE prospect in the 2019 class, 2019 DB Brian Williams is ranked as the top DB in the nation and he very much looked the part on Sunday. 2019 ATH Marquez Beason earned an invite to the Prime21 Camp in June and will visit Texas soon. Jayden Jernigan was an absolute beast all day and will be a first round draft pick in 4-5 years. Also, 2019 under the radar QB Will Kuehne is one of my favorite QBs in that class. The 2019 as class in Texas as a whole will be an absolutely loaded class when it's all said and done.
2. Texas doesn't have a shot with 2018 DB Gemon Green unless they offer German Green- yes, I know... those names are confusing. It's even more confusing trying to figure out which one is which when they are standing right next to each other. Texas recently offered Gemon and really likes his game, but the twins made it clear that they are a package deal. I'm not so sure Texas will offer German either. Texas has a lot of DBs on the board who are really high on them and I'm not sure Texas is in the position to offer German. I really do like his game and think landing both of them would be a steal.
3. Texas needs to commit to a QB before it's too late- I would say of the QBs Texas is high on, Justin Rogers and Casey Thompson are the two they have the best shot with. Both attended the camp Sunday and I was very impressed with both. Texas needs to pick one of them and make them feel like a priority before it's too late. Rogers was my favorite QB at the camp, but Texas is a little behind with him. If they were to commit to Thompson, then I am certain they will gain his commitment pretty fast. I think both QBs will be very good at the college level.
4. Ron Tatum will be an absolute steal for whoever lands him- just by looking at him you can tell he's an absolute monster on the field and once he's on the field, it's hard to take your eyes off of him. He dominated the drills all day and just looked like he was on another level. I couldn't get a read on where he was leaning when I talked to him, but at this time it feels like OU is his leader. Texas is very much in the mix.
5. Chasen Hines is solid to LSU- I talked to him for a brief moment and he said he was 100 percent sold to LSU and wasn't going to change his mind. Chasen comes from an LSU family so this comes as no surprise.
At first glance, I thought he was AJ McCarron. Lol..
FYI Texas Tech's spring game is being played this weekend.
3 p.m. Saturday on FSSW if you want to watch some football.
Per Inside Texas, C Zach Shackelford will miss the rest of spring due to an ankle injury.
This has Jake McMillon taking over and moves Elijah Rodriguez to right guard.
Also from Inside Texas, they expect TE Reese Leitao to be on the team this fall.
There have been rumors that his charges will be taken down to a misdemeanor.
Texas A&M's opener at UCLA on opening weekend has been moved to a Sunday night broadcast.
