I came.
edit: Wait, you forgot Vaughn.
WIth the news the Spurs have put out an offer to Delfino and Roger Mason.
It makes me wonder if the Spurs are even going after Maggette.
No offense, but what exactly has Ariza done that makes that look like a laughable one-sided trade?
gold from 2004
They would be foolish not to.
I'm sure the Spurs FO is putting out offers to a bunch of free agents to cover their bases in case Maggette makes the mistake of signing with the Magic.
Has anyone heard any news on JR lately? Seems like he feel off the radar after Maggette opted out.
The Spurs contacted Mason, that doesn't mean they necessarily offered him anything. I think the Maggette thing is legit, because of so many people reporting it and his agent not denying it. I think the Delfino thing is legit to because of his agent looking over the contract.
I'd guess that the Spurs have contacted 6 or 7 players, and it sounds like they made at least two offers, one MLE, one LLE.
Mad speculation is expecting the Magic to pass up on a core player they need in Maggette to sign Chris Duhon and a ty backup C. For this price nearly everyone will at least put out feelers. Don't be so naive.
That backup C could very well be Kurt Thomas. They've shown interest in him in the past, also at the trade deadline when the Spurs got him. I think they might split the MLE between Thomas and Duhon, that is, if Duhon doesn't sign with New York.
So how true do we know these supposed offers to Mason and Delfino are? I mean I have not heard a legit source say so. If that is true, even without Maggette, I would be mad because I do not think those players address the needs the Spurs have. I wish we knew if the Spurs made an offer to Maggette... I mean I know that getting Maggette is a long shot or even J.R. Smith, and I would be happy with much smaller signings, but not Mason and Delfino.
Another opinion on the subject, this time Charley Rosen.

Used to be that Maggette always played hard at both ends of the court, but he's suc bed to the temptations of being in Star City too long. Clearly, Maggette needs (and will get) a change of scenery.
San Antonio would be the best landing spot for both him and the Spurs. A new environment of superior coaching, championship-caliber players, and truly devoted fans would undoubtedly rekindle Maggette's passion for the game. At the same time, his youthful talents would immediately spur San Antonio to recapture the rapture.
They haven't offered anything to Mason, they've just been in contact with him.
As for Delfino, they've reportedly offered a 2 year deal, but we're not sure if it's for the LLE or MLE.
Haven't read through this, but Utah are interested?
That's not good, from memory he signed with Utah once before only to be matched. Also, the position they need the most help at is SG...
If they offer Delfino any of the MLE I would be so disappointed. Although, realistically, if they did make him an offer (which we only got the source from an Argentinian newspaper) than it is likely for at least half the MLE. Which blows
I'd feel a bit better if I heard that the Spurs were talking to Pietrus too. IMO, he should be the fallback plan if Maggette declines.
Nice!![]()
Guess Hairston and Gist to IR or Toros...
More like..
C-Thomas/Oberto
PF-Duncan/Mahimni/Horry
SF-Bowen/Udoka
SG-Maggette/Ginobili
PG-Parker/Hill/Vaughn
Forgot about him.
IF anyone has ESPN insider can they post the article about the Spurs extending offer to Maggs, it is under NBA rumors.
I say let them develop with the Toros
It's nothing new.

According to two NBA sources, one from each conference, the Spurs are preparing to make an offer to Corey Maggette, who became an unrestricted free agent Tuesday when he opted out of the final year of his contract with the Los Angeles Clippers.
Details are not known, but the Spurs are believed to be poised to offer the 28-year-old guard-forward their full mid-level exception worth about $5.8 million for the first year, the sources say. -- San Antonio Express-News

# Chris Paul's extension was the Hornets' only significant move Tuesday, the first day of free agency. The team also is targeting Boston's James Posey, the Los Angeles Clippers' Corey Maggette and Detroit's Jarvis Hayes as potential additions through free agency. -- The Times-Picayune

Spurs offering him a contract doesn't mean he will accept!
WTF? Did they offer it to him or not? This is gay...
