Championships arent won in November, thats what they get, just like Portland, you should always coast at the start
I'm a bit slow apparently, but I just realized the entire Southwest division may make the playoffs. Damn.
who gets the tiebreaker between Houston and LA?
They are 2-2 in H2H and potentially finish with the same conference record.
So the next tiebreaker is record against playoff teams in the west..It's so hard to find this though.
Spurs 56
LA 56
Houston 56
Memphis 55..
Spurs obviously get 2..
But who finishes 3rd? LA or Houston?
LA has the tiebreaker between Memphis-Houston-LA...
But I don't know about Houston and LA..Would be nixe of Houston has the tiebreaker so we can see LA in the other side for an LA and GSW series.
If post 1063 is correct, the Clippers would get the 3 seed.
thanks.
I got cross eyed and saw LA with a 32-19 conference record. They are 35-12...
My bad.
Wait if the clippers win out don't they have atie breaker with us? Don't they get 2
NO..We have the tiebreaker over them.
I'm trying to figure out scenarios where LA gets 5th seed without San Antonio giving up the 2nd seed...
Seems like they are either 2,3 or 6 though...damn
It doesn't really matter who gets the #5 since it's extremely likely to be Houston or the Clippers, and both teams will give the Warriors fits in the 2nd round.
It's highly unlikely to happen. The Spurs would have to win the Southwest, ideally with 56 wins. To finish 5th in that scenario, LA would have to finish with a worse record than the Southwest runner-up, but a better record than the Southwest second-runner-up. If the Spurs have 56 wins, the easiest way for LA to get locked into fifth is for Memphis to finish with 55 wins, the Clips themselves to finish with 54 wins, and then Houston to finish with 54 wins. This situation calls for LA to lose their final two games, both against West opposition, and for Houston to lose their final two games. LA would still hold the conference record tiebreaker over Houston, and would be awarded the 5 seed.
Should the Clips win 55 games instead, they'd finish 36-16 in the conference. Memphis can't be tied with SA and the Rockets, because that would push LA to 6th. Memphis can't be tied with just SA, because they'd win the division and finish 2nd. If the Rockets are down in 6th, and the Spurs in 2nd, and Memphis and LA are both sitting at 55-27, conference record would come into play depending on where Memphis suffers its 27th loss. Against GSW, that leaves the Grizz at 35-17 in the West. Against Indy, though, that means they'd finish 36-16. So if LA were to split their final games 1-1, and Memphis splits their final games 1-1, LA would finish third if the Grizzlies lose in Oakland by virtue of conference record tiebreaker. If, however, Memphis beats Golden State but loses to Indiana, they'd have to go to the fourth tiebreaker, which is winning percentage against playoff teams in own conference. I have a gut feeling that LA leads in that department, what with how Memphis has crumbled lately. I could go through their respective schedules and figure it out, but it's 11 PM out here and I'm not about to do that . But, there's a chance that LA wins that tiebreaker as well, and would again finish 3rd.
So Memphis and LA cannot finish with identical records unless they also finish with a worse record than Houston. LA wins the tiebreakers over Memphis (probably) and the Rockets, so in order for them to get to 5th instead of 3rd, Houston has to already be in 3rd OR LA has to finish a game worse than Memphis. A lot of things can still happen, but realistically I think LA's a lock for 3rd.
In the end we want Memphis to lose and the Spurs and Rockets to win out.
I'm going to guess that Marc Gasol will play. He's tough as nails and we wouldn't be so lucky anyway. We'll see.
They will lose anyways
Aldridge will sit vs OKC. So count that out as a W for Portland.
Q. If Spurs win final reg season game our seed will be at the worst #____?
I know it depends on what other teams do but for here and now today? ^^
5th seed.. This happens if Memphis, Clippers, Spurs win out and Rockets lose a game.
damn..Guess the spurs have to take the last game seriously. Hoping for a miracle win by Portland.
Depends a lot on Memphis, tbh. They're probably going to get canned in Oakland, leaving Houston and SA in a tie for the Southwest le (assuming both win their final games) and the Spurs would get the tiebreaker over LA with a division win. Regardless, the Spurs have to win out to have as much control in the situation as they can, but if Memphis loses today (and I suspect they will) that will clear a path.
I also want to see a NOP vs. Warriors playoff..
Rob Fischer @thefishnation
Mike Conley (foot) and Tony Allen (hamstring) are both out for @memgrizz tonight at Golden State
Looks like it's either the 2nd or the 6th seed for the Spurs. I doubt the Clippers or Rockets lose again this season. Memphis probably loses tonight and wins their final game.
Meanwhile, the Spurs have by far the toughest final game of the 4 teams and will be in a dogfight against New Orleans.
it, the Spurs are by far the best team of those four anyway. With this much on the line for both sides it should be one of a game.
Agreed. Should be a great test for the Spurs right before the playoffs. Will definitely a playoff atmosphere.
