'23 College Football season thread

Nebraska only lost 1 game all year ranked top among the 1 seeds.
They Bought the tickets early as the #1 ranked team cruising to the semifinals AT HOME.
Texas went in as a mid 2 seed and even lost a set to the Aggies first round.
Lost 2 sets to Tenn.
Not considered a semifinal team, especially having to beat Stanford AT Stanford to even get into the semifinals .

Play Blair had UT in the finals of course; PB knows him some volleyball and anus licking. Bought all his tickets early to sell to Nebraska fans at an elevated price. Not…

They got hot and crushed the best 3 teams in the nation one after the other. Nebraska did not get close in ANY SET
3-0. They beat Nebraska worse than any other team they played in the tournament! PB so jealous of dem woohman sports…

I think Texas was the top #2 seed. Regardless, it didn't look good on TV how outnumbered Texas fans were but the result is all that matters. What a demolition.

We were not expected to be in the semifinals much less the finals.
We were the only 2 seed to make it to the semis. Makes sense to me for the way this tournament is set up.
Especially losing our best player from last years team.

So it turned out this years team was better and a huge surprise how they got better. That was the most tuned in team we have ever had. We just crushed the favorites in the last 3 rounds. Nobody would have thought we would beat the best team in the country losing zero sets. This was an amazing team that was totally unexpected. I bet some of the parents and relatives of kids on our team had to scramble to get tickets or made other plans. Back to back? Our previous championship before the b to b was 10 years. We got demolished in a number of tournaments as favorites under this same coach. I get it and the announcers basically stated Nebraska had the most tickets when they won their semifinal.

We also come in first or second in the directors cup every year (usually 2nd to Stanford) We have won much more at a bunch of other sports. I like the fact it’s not totally football. Thank god it’s not in fact, there are other sports we have been much better in. That says much much more than crowd size at tournament semis we did not expect to be in. Del Conte has done a fantastic job keeping up the entire sports program.

Well it’s still 2023 and I personally would still rather play Michigan.
But I never would have thought we would have 1 loss on basically the last play of a game.

Is there any football to show up for in Nebraska? Hows that going? Big meetings at the airport?
Nebraska has extraordinary fans no doubt.
When you have almost nothing to cheer about in football and you already have fantastic fans, I get it.
Especially considering in a city like Austin and any city Nebraska. I have always maintained UT fans on the whole are more reserved because they have "better" things to do. Football is still king however. UT fans that have the bucks will travel for any football. Thats the bragging rights for UT alumni. And there are alot of alumni with heaps of money. And yes they are spoiled and want to stick it into their business associates faces.
Overall UT sports are A+ Compare the success to ATM. Its not even close. Another big school with money.

Nebraska fans are insane when it comes to supporting their teams. I remember in Lubbock when the huskers came, I couldn't believe the amount of red shirted corn heads in the stands.

Of all the home games I've been to, I think they were easily the most visitor fans that ever dared to visit.

I started following CFB in the early 90s. Seminoles 1st NC on a FG over Tommie Frazier in the Orange Bowl. He won the next 2- les

The early signing period for the 2024 football recruiting class begins Wednesday.


While their two-year run as national champions will conclude next month, the Georgia Bulldogs are looking to reclaim the top class in ESPN's team rankings for the first time since 2018.

What to know about the 2024 class

Sixteen prospects within the 2024 ESPN 300 remain uncommitted.

All 20 five-star prospects in the cycle have committed.

With the decision of WR Ryan Williams (No. 9 overall), who was third overall in 2025, to reclassify into the 2024 class and sign with Alabama in February, Alabama (CB Jaylen Mbakwe, No. 2 overall; QB Julian Sayin, No. 3 overall and Williams) leads the way with a trio of five-stars. Georgia (CB Ellis Robinson IV, No. 1 overall; LB Justin Williams; No. 14 overall) and Auburn (WR Cameron Coleman, No. 6 overall; DE Jamonta Waller, No. 19 overall) are the only other school with multiple five-stars. The Tigers flipped Coleman (Dec. 1) and Waller (Nov. 11) from Texas A&M and Florida, respectively.


DE Williams Nwaneri (No. 5 overall) would be the highest-ranked defensive lineman to sign with Missouri since Terry Beckner Jr. in 2015; WR Micah Hudson (No. 13 overall) would be the highest-ranked player ever to sign with Texas Tech; LB Dylan Stewart (No. 15 overall) would be South Carolina's first five-star recruit since defensive end Jordan Burch in 2020 and OT Jordan Seaton (No. 20 overall) would be the highest-ranked offensive lineman ever to sign with Colorado.


Robinson, from IMG Academy (Florida), is the first cornerback ever to be No. 1 overall in the ESPN 300. He committed to Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs on Feb. 1.


Sayin, Dylan Raiola and D.J. Lagway (No. 17 overall; Florida) -- all five-star prospects -- are the top three quarterbacks in the cycle.


Sayin was the lowest ranked of the three to begin the 2024 rankings (No. 24 overall) then climbed into the top 10 by April. His final prep season at Carlsbad (California) High School saw 2,369 passing yards with 24 touchdowns and one interception in 10 games in 2023.


Meanwhile, Raiola, the son of former Nebraska Cornhuskers and Detroit Lions center Dominic Raiola, was the top-ranked player in the class when ESPN debuted its 2024 player rankings. He initially committed to Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes in May 2022 before reopening things last December. Following a move from Arizona to Georgia, he pledged to Kirby Smart and Georgia on May 15. He took an official visit to Nebraska, where his uncle, Donovan, is currently the offensive line coach on Matt Rhule's staff, last weekend and followed that with a commitment to Nebraska on Monday. Dylan Raiola finished his high school career at Buford (Georgia) High School with 2,666 passing yards, 34 TDs and one interception in 13 games this fall.


Lagway has been in the top 20 for the entire cycle and was the first of the trio to come off the board when he committed to Billy Napier and the Florida Gators on Dec. 7, 2022. He is currently the linchpin of the sixth-ranked class and might have had the best senior campaign of the three. In 13 games for Willis (Texas) High School, Lagway threw for 4,604 yards and 58 touchdowns while rushing for 957 yards and 16 scores. -- Blake Baumgartner

The number of 6-6 teams in bowl games is absolutely ridiculous. It's gotten out of control. We need less bowl games.

My point still stands.
FSU would not have been in the cfp (they should have been in) without portal guys. So now they get to play a bowl game without players. Bowl games and practices against good opponents can be very worthwhile for actual hs recruits on the team. But not if the punter has to play QB. Portal guys can be in extremely important positions of need. But complete overhauls every year are probably very difficult (see Colorado). Imo you still have to raise the puppies. But you can’t just throw them to the wolves without the most important pack members.

QB depth is going to be a continual concern in college football Imo. Your worthy backup can leave to be a starter on another team. And injuries become magnified.

Also the timing of the portal does not coincide well with teams in the cfp. Players who wish to leave are at a disadvantage.
This will be one of the first fixes Imo.

A lot of their top players didn't just sit out but are gone for good. This is going to be a major rebuilding project but it's probably doable with their resources.
