I like your gamercard. The one on xboxlive.com never worked.

bioshock and 2k games. I went out and spend the $55 on this game tonight only to come home and find out I can't install the piece of because of some stupid ing auto patcher you don't even need. 2k games apparently wasn't prepared for people to buy this thing and try to activate their ing games so now their site is down and I have no way to even play this thing.
First of all, there haven't been many complaints of this happening.
With a game this advanced, there are undoubtedly going to be some kinks in the initial patching and so forth. That's why they patch games -- to fix unforeseen errors.
As for their site being down, give it a few minutes. It usually bounces back. They're probably swamped with reg codes right now. Why? Because this game is being billed as one of the best PC games in history.
Do your research please.

Same problem
Again
2K servers down almost an entire day straight not even a day after launch, the numerous amount of bugs in this game number in the 100,000's, check up on what is going on next time. There are about 20 more threads on their site with people having the patch problem, and about 5 pages of threads with a new problem in the game every 10 minutes
My problem with the game isn't even the fact there are 100,000 people right now whose game randomly crashes or the sound goes crazy and the game becomes unplayable. My problem is that if this is the way 2k games plans on handling their game authentication in the future, I can pretty much tell them to go themselves and not waste my money that punish the people that didn't pirate the ing game. People have been receiving broken Big Daddy figurines in mass numbers and while the game might kick ass, 2K tech support is nowhere to be found, their forum mods have all but vanished from the forums and are dodging every question
How about the 48 interceptions my friend's team had 9 games into the regular season against the computer?
Please. Madden 08 is a solid game for decent multiplay, but it's by no means an elite sports game. The Winning Eleven/Pro Evolution soccer series from Konami is an example of a real sports franchise that seeks to better itself every year. The 2k series of sports games has historically been much better recreating every sport.
I like Madden. I don't like watching them rake in millions upon millions of dollars every year for a game that's nominally different than the last. And sure, this game has some bigger changes -- they essentially facelifted the icons of other sports games (notably 2k sports) and jammed it onto the playing field. Try bumping the difficulty against the computer and going 16-0. It cheats. The Madden series has been out since 1992. 15 years, and still they are unable to make a competent AI that doesn't resort to cheap, impossible tactics to win games. How the can that be called great? They've had a decade and a half to correct this facet of the game that reeks of utter hogwash.
Instead, they shove some more options in gamers' faces. The only real innovation this year is the momentum based tackling which SHOULD have been happening 3-4 years ago.
Of all genres and platforms, the Madden series is the franchise of games that has improved the least from year to year. Don't at other players because they aren't willing to throw down ANOTHER $60 on a game that should have been light-years ahead of what it is. Look at Madden on the PC -- yay Xbox graphics! Definitely a company going "all out" for the consumer.![]()
This happens with nearly every game hyped like Bioshock was. , Counterstrike servers STILL have compatibility issues, and Half Life 2 was released a long time ago. PCs are so varied and so ubiquitous that it's simply not possible for a development team to brace for this kind of reception.
Do a little research of your own and find a game that has been met with this kind of hype and incredibly high reviews that hasn't experienced problems at launch. You have every right to be upset -- you do not sound intelligent when you make it sound like other games have perfect launches or that this never happens. Trust me, it does. Especially from smaller publishers who don't have the manpower to handle all this media buzz.
Yes. Because I'd rather them come out and make a bunch of public statements about the game rather than actually working on the problem.
If this persists for another week, then we can call for their heads. Until then, give them some time. I would MUCH rather have a game of this quality have some bugs to work out at launch than another ty FPS that runs fine from day 1.
I'll pay you to find another game as hyped as Bioshock was that people were UNABLE TO ING INSTALL FOR 2 DAYS STRAIGHT. Not only that, 2K and Securom tech support are playing this ping pong game with who is at fault. Call 2k, they handle this problem not us...ok calling 2k games tech support..."Hi, you're going to have to contact Securom to have that problem fixed." And it just continues, tech support staff on their forums are pretty much staying out of every thread, and the people that have gotten through to 2k games have been told "well the servers will be up in about 30 minutes" hey no problem, I can wait 30 minutes. Too bad they have been saying that since 4 a.m (18 hours ago)
Were you around for the Oblivion launch? Thousands upon thousands of gamers flooded the website and were unable to run the game. It lasted for about 48 hours until a patch was released. Sites like joystiq and 1up were flooded with complaints. It was horrible.
*edit* Heck, I remember not even being able to post or load the Oblivion forums because they were so overloaded with users.
Now? The game works just fine on nearly any system above the minimums.
The thing about the Oblivion launch is that the people in charge at least communicated with the customer base. 2k can't even release a simple 2 sentence statement "Sorry, autopatching servers are temporarily down" Instead, people are going through all of the suggestions in the FAQ thinking they need to delete registry keys and install this and uninstall that to get the thing working. In addition to the autopatch problems there are:
a. People who received bad activation keys and neither 2k or Securom will provide them with new ones.
b. People that have had to install the game more than twice only to find they can't install the game anymore.
c. Thousands of random crashes for those lucky enough to run the game.
d. Random sound glitches for people running Windows XP
e. All of the broken Big Daddy's people are getting
And worst of all is probably the lack of a working widescreen mode.
It doesn't matter if you pre-loaded the game from Steam or bought the CD like I did, each one has its own set of problems, not to mention all of the crap happening to people with 360 versions
This is why I never buy PC games at launch. I usually find a torrent to see if it'll run then buy if it does. Look at STALKER and Oblivion's launchesm those were so bugged you were better off waiting 4-5 weeks until the thing got patched enough instead of wasting preorder money or whatever.
Anyways, the real crime is the lackluster widescreen support from game developers. I'm sick of having to find hacks because the devs were too lazy to program in a 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratio. There is no excuse to not include it, I have games 4 years old that have widescreen resolutions.
Like I said, I could live with a few glitches or whatever because it's expected with a new PC game, but the customer service has been horrid, and that is my biggest problem
What are you talking about? I'm running widescreen just fine.
For someone telling me to do my "research" (unnecessary by the way, since two games have already been mentioned that have had horrible launches), you haven't done much of yours.
Honestly, are you just trolling through the user complaints to make a case for how horrible this game is so you can feel better about yourself?
The developers designed Bioshock from a widescreen perspective. Therefore, you don't get any added width to the screen when playing in widescreen mode because it's already been accommodated for. Users on a standard 4:3 display get a bit more vertical viewing area, but their POV is not as proportionally accurate as the widescreen mode.
Unless you know some trick of physics, would you care to explain how a game could display in both widescreen and 4:3 without cropping? It's not possible. Gamers with widescreen displays (myself included), are just used to seeing more than the standard 4:3 because games have typically been designed with that ratio in mind. Bioshock is not. That doesn't mean there is "no widescreen", it just means the widescreen was there before you set it. The losers here are those with 4:3 displays who have to sacrifice some detail to play the game.
I mean, seriously, do you think this game is getting 100/100, 9.7, 9.5, 10/10 all over the place without widescreen support? Get real. And do your research.
Or better yet, here you go:

On a totally unrelated note, am I the only one in this thread who <3's Kirby Air Ride for the 'Cube?
I miss the old school wwf........or now wwe games for the NIN 64 that THQ used to make.....damn those were some fun ass games. The 4 player mode was the .
I was going to chime in on the complaints, but it seems Cry Havoc has regulated. I would have done it with a touch more sympathy (seeing as I have been in Judson's shoes many, many times for highly anticipated games), but whatever.
The widescreen issue....I installed BioShock the day it came out, seeing as I have a 22" widescreen monitor, I naturally set it to a widescreen resoution.
I saw a HUGE improvement in POV using widescreen. It didnt seem "more zoomed" or any other trick of the eye. If anything, the 4:3 ratios made it looked very zoomed.
Meh, either way it looks great...just not on my PC. I posted my new PC a while back in this thread....I have yet to receive said PC.
I installed BS on my current rig and it was brought to its knees like I have never seen before in its history. I told you about widescreen, yeah? Well, that! I thought the opening sequence was going to kill my computer.
So I called the people I ordered a PC from, said it will ship this Friday. So no BioShock for me until then.
2k announced last night they will be patching the FOV problem in widescreen mode, meanwhile there are hacks out to correct it
I have no doubt this game is going to kick ass, the problem so far has just been getting the ing thing to work. Either way, I'm about an hour from playing it so i'm sure my opinion of 2k will quickly change but I am still pretty upset about what I was told on the phone when trying to call them and their customer service in general. This game and Crysis were the reasons I bought a new computer so this will be the first time this thing has had to actually use a good portion of its power to run a game and not just counterstrike source lol
Amen! I upgraded for the same reasons. Because a 6800GT just wasnt getting it anymore and man, does it gets its ass-kicked by BioShock.
If there is such thing as art in a videogame, consider Bioshock Picasso. System is running it with no video problems at all and the game looks beautiful. I just screamed OH really loud for the first time in the game because i turned around and there was a guy in my face, so I need a break after my heart got going so fast![]()
