All of my uncles on my mom's side are still actively serving in the Armed Services, save one who is a retired Colonel with the Air Force.

I have one aunt and one uncle on my father's side that are retired. But, I have a ton of cousins who are serving at the moment.

It is areas like that which the military heavily recruits. Find a bunch of young kids in poor areas without money, promise them the moon and get them to sign on the dotted line. Textbook.
