Except when it comes to facts about Osiris alleged 'virgin birth', Disonysis turning 'water into wine', and Krishna being the 'Shepherd of God'.
Inconsistent logic.
As are you with 125 AD. But, when you do it it's just potato/potAHto, tomato/tomAHto...when the other side does it, it's false and misleading.
You logic is inconsistent. Think about your 'facts' the same way you think of the other's 'facts.'
Why start now, right?
For both, I'll refer to a post made earlier in this thread:
"I can concede that some general similar traits of a god HAVE TO apply to any religious leader...throughout history. They have to be good leaders, they have to do noteworthy feats of goodness or the supernatural, the have to establish teachings and traditions, the have to create community rituals, and they have to battle evil in some form. These are common elements of religion...NOT things that require some theory of dependence. It's simply not enough to point to some vague similarities and call Christian's "copy-cats." You'd have to show that the parallels are numerous, detailed, striking, complex, and central to that religion. "
Why is it so preposterous of me to ask you to provide something numerous, detailed, striking, complex, and central...but anything short of a hand-written bible autographed by Jesus himself isn't good enough for you. You guys have to play by the same rules here. There is a set of evidential standards you have for me to abide by, but that same set of standards does not apply to your side of the argument.
Except when it comes to facts about Osiris alleged 'virgin birth', Disonysis turning 'water into wine', and Krishna being the 'Shepherd of God'.
Inconsistent logic.
Why do you claim Isis was not a virgin?
Because Isis the Goddess was with Osiris? Mary was married to Joseph and they were human yet she was a 'virgin' .....and you don't have a problem swallowing that load of crap.
You don't understand Egyptian mythology.
Osiris became her husband, then she became pregnant with Horus. It's pretty safe to assume that when Osiris and her celebrated their honeymoon, Isis' virginity was no longer considered valid.
Now, you can claim that her becoming pregnant with Horus was miraculous, but to say that she was a virgin at the time is patently untrue. Misleading, if you will.
See...first the marriage, then the pregnancy. Christianity makes no qualms about the claim that Mary was a virgin at the time of her conception, the marriage to Joseph came later (virginity still in tact).
I don't have to understand Egyptian mythology to understand that you're wrong on this point.
I'm sorry I have to jump in on this one. Stating that marriage assumingly equates to sex is a bit presumptous.
I've listened to you plenty but this post is ridiculous.
If you're going to argue against speculation you're going to have to offer up more than the same.
As a man married for nearly 19 years, I can vouch for this statement.
Sure it's presumptious, but it's certainly not ridiculous and completely speculative.

EDIT: Nevermind, not presumptuous at all -
"Isis and Osiris
After his first attempt, Set managed to kill Osiris again and cut up his body into numerous parts. These parts Set spread all over Egypt. Isis, Nephthys and Anubis searched Egypt, and managed to retrieve all of the pieces of the body, except one - Osiris' phallus. Set had dropped the penis into the Nile (making it fertile), where it was eaten by a fish. The god and goddesses pieced Osiris together and created the first mummy. Using her magic, Isis fashioned a replacement for Osiris' missing part, either out of clay, wood or gold, and attached this to her dead husband's body. Through magical spells, life was breathed back into Osiris' body (though some dispute this and believe that Osiris was dead at the time)... The goddess managed to share a time of passion with her husband who impregnating her with their child, Horus. Osiris then passed into the afterlife, becoming god of the dead."
Not a virgin birth...by any means.
ugh. "Love Me Some Me"
if I waste my time and provide you with the facts and sources to prove this about Isis, what will your reaction be?
let's just make believe I proved it, what is your reaction?
You've been making believe you've proven it all along.
Try this on for size:

answer my question.

I just did.
I quoted a source that explains that Horus was conceived when Isis had sex with Osiris dead corpse, with his formed from clay. Not exactly virgin.
are you ok in the head?
if I waste my time and provide you with the facts and sources to prove this about Isis, what will your reaction be?

are you trolling? :P come on now, nanananana trolling right?
If I wasted my time and provided you with facts and sources to prove that you are wrong about Isis, what will your reaction be?
I'll help you out. There is more than 1 story about Horus' birth. Ancient Egyptians actually had several different mythos about it.
Oops!
Answer my question please.
if I wasted my time and proved it, what is your reaction?
Don't bother. You won't get the reaction you desire.
He just equated a vibrator on a dead man to actual functional reproductive sex.
Last time I checked shoving a glass in your virgin pussy doesn't mean you're not a virgin anymore.
Ok...so you want me to hypothetically give you credit for providing do entation for a fact that you KNOW is not correct?
You want me to pretend you've proven something that's patently not correct?
C'mon man...come back when you want to have a serious conversation.
I want to know how you plan on reacting.
Can't you just answer that simple question?
you speak the truth
he just doesn't know that the ancient egyptians had several different accounts of the story, and they all pre-date christianity. he picked 1 account and thinks that's canon.
that's not how the ancient egyptians used to work. his mind is coming from the wrong perspective
Not only that, but I provided a link that showed the importance of sexual function in an Egyptian marriage...but you want me to presume that Isis and Osiris DIDN'T have sex after they got married.
And of course you're not going to get the reaction you desire. I'm not gonna pretend he's proven something that he hasn't proven.
I'm going to react this way:
"I can concede that some general similar traits of a god HAVE TO apply to any religious leader...throughout history. They have to be good leaders, they have to do noteworthy feats of goodness or the supernatural, the have to establish teachings and traditions, the have to create community rituals, and they have to battle evil in some form. Are you all going to Ash Wednesday Services next month?
So basically, you want a carbon copy of the Jesus mythos.
Otherwise, you don't believe there is anything to this.
That's not how this works. You simply don't understand.
I'm holding you to the same standard of evidence that you are holding others to.
Pretend that you've been shown proof of the historical accuracy of Jesus and the gospels. How would you react?
What the . I may as well keeping posting in here and go round and round like everyone else.
What, no takers?
I've got my palms from last Palm Sunday ready.
