"It started about a month ago. They called my coach and then I was told to give them a call. When I called, they told about the offer," Choice said.

"We're just trying to get to know each other. He's recruiting me, so he's trying to sell Texas. We had nice conversations," Choice said. "He's (Larry Porter) a great guy. He's firm, but at the same time he's consistent, he's fair. He's a well spoken man, seems to have great values, and does what he's supposed to do."

"Definitely the education, being able to get a degree from the University of Texas," Choice said when asked what he and Porter talk about on the phone. "And the city of Austin. That and the opportunity to play great football there against great compe ion."

"I would definitely like to take a visit there. I'm not sure when, just whenever I can get out there," Choice said.

"I would definitely like to narrow things down this summer. I'm not going to make it happen this summer if I'm not ready, but it would be nice."

"Definitely academics. I was told to go where I feel like I fit, where I can see myself being comfortable away from my family," Choice said.

"Being a high school option quarterback, I definitely think I can improve on my throwing. In the long run, I can definitely get stronger, faster, be more agile with the ball, just make more things happen," Choice said. "I would say I'm kind of determined on every play to make the most out of every opportunity. I would say that's my strength."

Texas State just offered him as a late 2013 commit, which that in itself gives me concern on whats going on behind the scenes with the current DLine. Hopefully the Texas' interest is short-lived and he lands in San Marcos in June; however, if his transcript is good enough for TXST most likely it's going to be good enough for UT's. We have been able to compete with other larger programs lately in recruiting but our facilities don't hold a candle to UT's.

“Coach Mack Brown personally called to offer him,” said Trinity recruiting coordinator John Thompson. “I don’t think it was something he was expecting at all, especially with him being so young. But Coach Brown called us to let us know that they wanted to offer Patrick and I’m pretty sure that made him very happy judging by the look on his face when he found out.”

“It’s the University of Texas,” said Thompson. “Anytime Texas offers you, you have to really look at that offer and consider it. Patrick is well aware of the tradition they have and how much they win. He definitely knows what all goes on down there and how successful Texas has been as a program over the years."

“He was very excited about getting that offer, especially with it being his first and being one from a major program,” he added. “I know for sure he’s very intrigued by them.”

“With Texas offering I can only imagine that many schools will follow in their footsteps,” he said. “Everyone has shown a lot of interest in him already, but with him being so young, no one had offered up until yesterday."

“All the Big 12 programs have been very interested in him, especially Oklahoma and Baylor,” he added. “He’s received a lot of attention for sure and, like I said, I only expect that to pick up.”

“It took him a little bit but he found his way for only being a sop re,” Thompson said. “Honestly he was a little tentative at first. He wasn’t exactly sure about some of the technical things like his feet. He wasn’t sure if he could go out and compete with those guys. But after a few practices the light came on for him."

“Once he figured it out, he realized he’s just as good, if not better, than anyone out on the field,” he added. “He turned into a natural, old school nasty player. He will put a hit on you that you’ll remember. He’s not afraid and he loves contact.”

Update on 2015 ATH KeKe Coutee of Lufkin (HornsNation):

“They’re rivals (Oklahoma and Texas),” he said. “I figured they (Texas) were going to offer me sooner or later.”

“I just loved Texas and I still love them right now,” Coutee said Tuesday night. “It’s my favorite. Texas was my favorite from the start.”

“I just love the coaching staff,” he said. “They’re fun and they’ll do anything to help you out at the University of Texas. It’s a great campus. I loved everything about it.”

“They saw my film and they liked what they saw and they’re offering me,” Coutee said. “It didn’t catch me by surprise. I had a feeling Texas was going to offer me.”

“I haven’t really been thinking about a commitment,” Coutee said. “I’ll probably commit at the beginning of this season or after my junior season. I didn’t think about committing today, but I was pretty excited because I’ve always wanted to go to Texas. I have the opportunity to, now that I have a scholarship offer.”

Latest with LB Otaro Alaka after committing to Texas last month (24/7):

“Making that decision was hard,” Alaka said. “It was close. Very close actually. I’m glad I went with my original choice and made the decision to be a Longhorn. It felt good to get it over with. Since then everything has settled down for me, so that’s very cool. It’s nowhere near as busy as it used to be. I like that part of it a lot.”

“There are still quite a few schools that are recruiting me hard even though they know I’m committed,” said Alaka. “Texas A&M, LSU, UCLA and Ole Miss are probably the ones who try to still recruit me the most.”

“I tell them all that I’m very confident in my decision with picking Texas,” he said. “I’ve told them not to worry about me and that I am completely committed to Texas. I’m 100-percent committed. If they send me messages or try to call or anything like that, I don’t even respond now. I’m not concerned about anyone else.”

“I get to focus on just football now that recruiting is out of the way,” Alaka said. “So my goals are to get bigger, stronger and faster for the season. I really want to improve my tackling and work on my pass rush too. I want to help take my team the furthest possible and be the best player possible.”

Texas continues to pursue OL Joseph Paul of St. Augustine HS in New Orleans, LA (24/7):

“Coach Porter was a little disappointed I committed to Florida,” said Paul. “He really thought I might be going to Texas and I planned on it. But I had a change of heart and liked Florida a lot. He told me that they would still recruit me and be coming after me hard, if I was committed to Florida or not. He said they liked me a lot and wouldn’t stop coming after me.”

“I get a ton of mail from Texas,” he said. “They send it all the time. On top of that I talk to them at least once every two weeks. They are always inviting me down and saying that they could really use me and that I should be a Longhorn.”

“Jermaine (Roberts) still tries to recruit me all the time and I mean all the time,” Paul said. “I’d say he recruits me about as hard as possible for Texas. He’ll really bug you all day about it. I joke with him and tell him he gets on my nerves talking about the Longhorns so much. He’s always saying ‘Come to Texas, come to Texas.’ He really wants me there and he definitely lets you know that.”

“You could say I’m 100-percent to Florida,” said Paul. “Even though I’m committed, they still come after me hard too. They recruit me like I’m still not committed to anyone and I like that. They are always showing me love and I do the same for them. I’m a Gator.”

“Honestly, I took it as a prank,” Vahe said. “I mean, the Texas Longhorns? Me? No, I didn’t see that coming.

“But when I went into my coach’s office, I couldn’t believe it. I mean, it was really happening.”

“My family grew up Texas fans,” Vahe said. “I remember seeing them go all the way [in 2005]. I put it as a goal of mine that one day, if I’m lucky, I’ll get to play there. Now, I can say that a dream could possibly come true.”

“He (Mack Brown) said he was building his offensive line, and he wanted someone big and fast,” Vahe said of Brown. “He said he liked what he saw in me. It gave me butterflies.”

Inside Texas saying WR Ishmael Zamora is another name to keep an eye on. Porter was by his school on Wednesday and he's supposed to meet with the coaches at some point this weekend if he hasn't already.
