Don't know where Chicago ranks this year, but as of last year (i.e., 2019 stats), it wasn't in the top 25 most dangerous cities for violent crime in the US.
Beaumont, Texas was more dangerous city on a per capita basis than Chicago, IL in 2019.

Chicago is Dem in a Dem state, has gun control, hyped murder rate (guns imported from Repug states), and above all lots of blacks.
