Bingo. Seems like a smokescreen.
Granger, tbh... We'll see how happy he is when he's glued to the bench facing us in the second round.
Bingo. Seems like a smokescreen.
He doesn't clear waivers until 4 pm Friday....so he really can't say anything until then or else I'm sure he would have announced it. He already has a house in LA....kinda obvious imo.
It's funny how they remained "clear favorites".. when were they clear favorites in the first place?
Quick, let's buyout Ayres maybe the Clippers will like him and sign him too..
I think the new commish needs to start thinking about ways to keep all these big market teams from getting every player they want. The last collective bargaining agreement did all to stop it so maybe they need to start thinking outside the box. How about making it so that every small to mid market team automatically gets a better draft slot than the big market teams? Something has to be done to stop this "I'm too cool to play for that team, gimme a team that has a cool nightlife" bull .

Uh, star-studded teams in big markets drives ratings, which means big time revenue for the league. I'm pretty sure they're not going to get in the way of free enterprise, especially when they reap the benefit. The only way the league is for parity is if they benefit...e.g. taxing the crap out of big spenders.
Yeah I understand but at the same time the nfl thrives with parity and one wishes the nba can work that way too.
Life's not fair.
Parity in the NFL is tolerated because of fantasy football and gambling. It gives you a reason to root for the Bengals even though you have no affiliation with the team...you just need AJ Green to catch a TD on their final drive to put you over the top.
The point being, the actual product is pretty terrible (parity and all), but the league makes money hand over fist because of interest drummed up for other reasons.
The NBA doesn't have that nearly as much. It counts on TV ratings, which need big markets and "sizzle". And I don't see that model changing, even with a new commish.
You really think the actual nfl product is terrible now?
The NFL is that way because the game can't be controlled by agendas as much as the NBA can. Something drastic would have to happen in order to break up the trend of friends joining forces and dictating where they want to go, the league would have to either punish franchises who abuse the cap by severely killing there hopes to getting good players in the draft or coming up with a way to hurt the franchise for bringing in multiple max players. Something like first time offenders get taxed at the 2 to 1 or 3 to 1 depending on how much they're over, second time you lose whatever draft picks you would have had for that season, and repeated you lose draft picks for current and future drafts.
A hard cap possibly that is pretty stringent, if you max out which 3 players on a team together or even 2 can get you dangerously close then you can only offer a set minimum, like 100k to a player.. lots of players want to win championships but 100k and after taxes.. they'll move on.
good take.

The best part about these threads is they always end the same way. Good times.
Dude just wasn't Spurs material, from inside out. Honestly, MWP seems more Spur-esque than Granger did. If only we could switch their talents.
On to the next player who will "entertain" the notion of playing for the Spurs then choosing a big market team instead. This time, it'll be Josh Howard who'll probably play for Miami or even the Knicks.
This is a blessing in disguise folks.
Yup, Ayres will for sure dominate in the playoffs.
But really, This just shows you how boss guys like Boris, Patty and Danny are. To sign with the Spurs on a great contract despite the Team's hard-working at ude that most players would whine about because they want things 'their' way. Truly rare players in today's game.
Good pickup for the Clips. Truth be told, he wasn't going to put any team over the top.So it's not a big miss out for the Spurs.
International players love the Spurs, it has a very Euro feel to it and they usually have a niche role they are comfortable bringing to the Spurs. Green, well he was still considered ty when he signed his deal.
by the way https://twitter.com/MettaWorldPeace/ doesn't exist anymore...
