Government Watchdogs Call on the New York Attorney General to Dissolve Trump’s Company and Revoke Its Corporate Charter
Free Speech For People (FSFP), a non-partisan legal advocacy organization, announced Thursday that it delivered a letter to New York State Attorney General Barbara D. Underwood on August 24, 2018,
calling for an investigation into whether to revoke the corporate charter of the Trump Organization
under a New York law that authorizes her to dissolve a corporation for persistently illegal conduct or abuse of its powers contrary to the public policy of the state.
These alleged activities, detailed in the letter and in previous correspondence, include
money laundering,
tax evasion,
fraud,
facilitating uncons utional foreign government payments (emoluments) to the president,
helping Iran’s Revolutionary Guard evade international sanctions, and
concealing a political slush fund by invoicing bogus “legal services.”
“Cohen’s guilty plea is just the latest evidence piled on top of a mountain of alleged violations by the Trump Organization,”
“The New York attorney general should use her legal authority to file a lawsuit to dissolve the company and revoke its corporate charter.”
“The New York Business Corporation Law is quite clear,”
“The attorney general can dissolve any New York corporation that conducts its business in a persistently fraudulent or illegal manner.
We now have a guilty plea by former Trump Organization, Inc. Vice President, Michael Cohen,
implicating the corporation in a criminal conspiracy to violate federal campaign laws."

Anti-Trump Resistance Rises: President’s Disapproval Hits Record High After Manafort and Cohen News
Ominous trends for the midterms: Trump is more unpopular than ever and Americans are rallying behind Robert Mueller
President Donald Trump's disapproval rating has reached a record high — and the number of Americans who support special counsel Robert Mueller over Trump is now greater than those who do not.
A new Washington Post-ABC News poll found that
three out of five Americans (60 percent) disapprove of Trump's performance as president,
with only 36 percent approving of how he has performed so far.
Similarly 49 percent of Americans believe that Congress should start proceedings that might ultimately lead to Trump's removal from office,
with only 46 percent saying they should not do so.
Finally a whopping 53 percent of Americans believe that Trump's efforts to interfere with the Mueller probe counts as obstruction of justice,
while only 35 percent say that this isn't the case.

Trump, foundation seek dismissal of New York 'self-dealing' lawsuit
U.S. President Donald Trump, his three adult children and his namesake foundation are seeking the dismissal of a lawsuit by the New York state attorney general accusing the nonprofit of “self-dealing” for Trump’s benefit, including for his 2016 presidential campaign.
In a Thursday night court filing, the defendants said the lawsuit by Attorney General Barbara Underwood targeting the Donald J. Trump Foundation contained “fundamental legal and factual deficiencies,” and was politically motivated, reflecting her office’s “antipathy” toward the president.
“Relief is sought based on the NYAG’s appearance of partiality; its overwhelming conflict of interest; and its resulting unwillingness to resolve this matter without litigation,” Alan Futerfas, a lawyer for the defendants, wrote.
Amy Spitalnick, a spokeswoman for Underwood, said on Twitter:
“As our lawsuit detailed, the Trump Foundation functioned as a personal piggy bank to serve Trump’s business and political interests.
We won’t back down from holding President Trump and his associates
accountable for their flagrant violations of New York law.”

Trump’s latest rally rant is much more alarming and dangerous than usual
At his rally on Thursday night in Indiana, ... he also added a refrain that should set off loud, clanging alarm bells.
Trump didn’t simply castigate “fake news.”
He also suggested the media is allied with special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s probe — an alliance, he claimed, that is
conspiring not just against Trump but also against his supporters.
“Our biggest obstacle and their greatest ally actually is the media.”
Trump also lashed out at the FBI and the Justice Department, claiming that “people are angry” and threatening to personally “get involved.”
Robert D. Chain, who was arrested this week for allegedly threatening to murder journalists at the Boston Globe while mimicking Trump’s language, also connected Mueller’s investigation to the media.
“You’re the enemy of the people, and we’re going to kill every f–––ing one of you,”
Trump surely knew about this arrest when he repeated his attacks on the news media Thursday night — and when he connected the media to the Mueller investigation as part of a grand conspiracy against him and his voters.
in most or all of these cases, whichever side is culpable,
most of our elected leaders on both sides have used their prominence to calm passions in hopes of averting future horrors.
there is no longer any denying that Trump continues to direct incendiary attacks against working members of the free press even though his own language is being cited by clearly unhinged people making horrifying death threats against them.
even these presidents maintained a grudging acceptance of
the news media as an adversarial mechanism of accountability that legitimately informs the public debate and thus
retains a vital ins utional role in our democracy.
Trump simply does not accept this at all.
He is trying to destroy this foundational set of ideas in the minds of his supporters.
And it seems to be working.
there is broad public faith that our ins utional mechanisms of accountability are functioning properly;
wide support for allowing them to proceed undisturbed;
broad public conviction that Trump is corrupt and has improperly tried to obstruct that from happening; and
wide opposition to any such efforts in the future.
a Democratic takeover of the House could look like a very serious possibility, which itself will ratchet up tensions.
Trump could still oust Sessions in the lame-duck period and replace him with a loyalist to constrain the probe, which would thrust the country into crisis.
The most charitable interpretation is that Trump is merely invoking this conspiracy against him and his voters to get them out to the polls, to stave off loss of the House and oversight or impeachment later.
There is no reason whatsoever to grant Trump the benefit of such an innocent interpretation.
But whatever his actual intent, there is no denying it:
Trump is doing this in the full knowledge that someone out there might take him at his word, with deadly seriousness.

Federal judge rules against Texas request to end 'Dreamers' program
A federal judge on Friday denied a request by Texas and other states governed by Republicans to immediately end a program launched by Democratic former president Barack Obama that protects immigrants brought to the United States illegally as children.

A Republican leader just quit his party and shredded Trump in a blistering op-ed
Michael J. London is the latest GOP member to publicly call it quits
“I blame President Trump for turning the Grand Old Party into a lame, extreme right-wing group of people unwilling or unable to see the truth.
But Trump is not alone in causing my disillusionment.
I have had it with the state and federal branches of the Republican Party that tolerated the president’s behavior.
None of our GOP candidates for governor denounced Trump.
None of the leaders of Connecticut’s GOP will speak out.
Trump is simply the worst president our country has had — ever.
He is encouraging increased pollution and
disavowing the need to halt climate change.
He is taking credit for a strong economy when it was the previous president (like him or not) who set the current strong economy in motion.
He has separated immigrant mothers and children.
He has, more likely than not, supported (or participated in) collusion with an enemy.”
“Disavowing my party is no easy thing.
I have made many friends over the years in the Republican Party.
I am saddened by the fact that many will be more than offended by what I am saying.
My decision was made after considerable soul-searching.
But I can’t take it any more.
Trump does not represent true Republican values. He does not represent my values.
I am leaving the Republican Party and, for the time being, will remain unaffiliated.”
stunning to see how easily the rank-and-file of the Republican Party have fallen in line with Trump’s racist and destructive agenda

nothing wrong with that, but it only helps 401(k)saving past age 70.
it's a good thing that Trump has used the bully pulpit to draw attention to this problem, but this measure is a band-aid applied to a sucking chest wound.
retirees not having saved enough money for retirement will be a personal problem with social and political dimensions over the 20-30 years, and not just because people are undisciplined. 40 tears of flat wages and an epochal recession figure into this.
