You can justify anything with the standard "as long as we can save one life". I'm happy this virus is exposing the authoritarian nature of government officials tbh
As long as the hospitals can handle the patients then it's irrelevant that the mortality rate is twice that of the flu.

Trump said he has absolute authority and not a peep from you.
How many would you like to die?
Do you know why some hospitals can potentially handle a surge right now? Yeah, that's how stay-at-home orders work. I don't know why people are under the impression that the plateau we're on (we're past the peak and are riding a plateau now) is the result of "just because." No, it's a in' result of our collective efforts to stay the home.
Who's under that impression? Probably a whole bunch of people you misattributed that impression to.
The "open up" crowd is under that impression. "Oh, it's not so bad in my town. We're not New York! Open up!" It's "not so bad in your town" precisely because it isn't "opened up." And most of these small towns and rural regions are woefully underequipped to handle even a 10 patent surge at the same time.
Gonna dump some Spanish Flu clippings:
"This kind of oppression on our FREEDDUMBS has never happened before in Murrica! It's those EVIL Librul Gub'nors getting off on their power! Open up!

Ill shoot a drone of it flies over my property tbqh
WHO. IN. CARES.
What was the mortality rate of the Spanish flu?
that kind of lie save lives
Trash, otoh
Tells lies that kill people
No one really knows. The death toll estimate ranges from 17 million to 100 million worldwide. All we know is that Spanish Flu was bad. All we know here is that Covid is bad. What's the logical response to bad viruses we have no immunity to, no treatment for, and don't have proper information about? Not getting the in' thing. What's the best way not to get a virus? Staying away from other people as much as possible.
The drones are justified because "it might save one life" though. You are basically killing someone might taking such an action.
And I don't know where the "mayor lied?" He was relaying the information based on the official stats. I don't know how "he could've known" the fatality rate was much lower when the study was just in' published. And his health commissioner relayed that new information to the public. This is more Libertarian rage about "gub'mint" being "devious" in order to control the masses.
And even if the mortality rate is the same as the flu. It. Doesn't. Matter.
Figured they'd have an estimate or something but I guess they just wrote down "all we know is the Spanish flu is bad".
"We've never had our 1st amendment rights trampled like this! It's because of all the LIBRULS. I wish I could go back in time to a Murrica where they respected our rights!"

I guess the liberate Kentuckians are rallying in the emergency room. Wonder if they wear their MAGA hats.
Trump slammed for attacking GOP governor as he tries to secure testing materials from overseas

"The governor of Maryland didn't really understand. He didn't really understand what was going on" -- Trump begins the April 20 #TrumpPressBriefing by attacking Republican Gov. Larry Hogan of Maryland, who has been critical of the federal coronavirus response.
=============
Commenters on Twitter took umbrage at Trump’s attack — some of them noting that
Hogan has actually done what the president demanded governors do and pursued medical resources on his own.

The president has told governors it's their responsibility to get tests.
So that's what @GovLarryHogan and Maryland's first lady did —
they secured 500,000 tests from South Korea.

Darwin wins again tbh
A range of 17 to 100 million is a worthless estimate. Yes. All you need to know to take action against something is "that it's bad." I think New York City suffering nearly 20K deaths (when their flu death toll is usually around 4000 over 6 months) should illustrate how bad this is.
Is this where we pivot to from Covid/with Covid? This is also dumb, because if Covid turns a livable hypertension disorder into a death, yes, you died FROM Covid.
And deaths aren't the only thing that matters in judging severity. What about the hospitalization rates? ICU rates? Or the average recovery time? We really don't know right now. But New York has provided a good sample. They had 18K hospitalizations last flu season. Already up to 57K Covid hospitalizations.
I'm happy law enforcement is utilizing drones to catch criminal behavior.
That said, with all my nation of spoiled children jabs, Americans are heeding the advice.
It's that ed 20 percent of spoiled, rotten, misinformed Trumpers and Liber ians that are the problem right now. There's plenty of polling on stay-at-home orders, and they're quite popular. A Quinnipiac University poll taken this month found that 81% of voters favored a national stay-at-home order.
