so what does that mean for my build? still go with the 480?
I guess I also wasn't expecting the GTX 1060 to be out so soon nor be as powerful as a GTX 980. Nvidia's last 60 series card, the GTX 960, wasn't very impressive. It barely beat out the GTX 760 it was replacing and they didn't release it for 3.5 months after the GTX 970 came out because they wanted people to buy the $330 gpu (970) instead of the $200 one (960). The RX 480 is still a really powerful gpu for $200 though, and I imagine whatever company buys the Radeon Technology Group will still provide support for the RX 480.

You know, I think maybe you should get the 1060 or an aftermarket RX 480 instead. Now there is starting to be reports of the reference RX 480 killing motherboards because it draws more than the 75W allowed through the PCIE slot.

    http://wccftech.com/amd-rx-480-killing-pcie-slots/

You could wait for the aftermarket RX 480 cards with an 8-pin or two 6-pin power plugs which shouldn't have this problem and should only draw 75W or less through the PCIE slot. Maybe you're looking at $20-$30 extra for say a Sapphire Nitro RX 480 or an MSI Gaming RX 480, but the card will run faster, quieter, cooler, and you won't have to deal with the out of spec power delivery you see on the reference RX 480 out right now. I imagine we'll see them within a couple of weeks.

Here's the Sapphire Nitro RX 480:

But it would have to be an aftermarket RX 480 that doesn't use the reference PCB. I'm not sure whether Sapphire Nitro uses a custom PCB. I hope they do.

That graph makes it look it's going to be about 115W. I'm really interested to see what they can do at 75W for prebuilts that can't handle a 6-pin PCIE.

The monitor is HD as in Full HD, e.g., 1080p? Does your monitor support 120 Hz or 144 Hz refresh rate, or is it 60 Hz? Because for a 1080p 60 Hz system, $1400 is an extremely high budget. Here is what I would consider a monstrously strong 1080p 60 Hz system for that kind of money: I think it would be a waste of money, though the CPU is really strong. It's a hexacore with hyperthreading that you'll probably be able to overclock to at least 4.2 GHz on the cooler I recommend.

This is what you lined up, although the video card has changed.

Have the case and the MB.

Going to march down the rest of it, now, save the video card for last.

I'm going to send you a PM with the video card. I would order it ASAP before the card goes out of stock, it will be quick.

The card I PMed you just now is really nice and a better card than the Founders Edition one I told you about before.

Buy that cpu, that cpu cooler to overclock that cpu hard, and the SSD.

Give me a couple of minutes and I'll find you a better deal on RAM and power supply. There is no reason to buy a $120 power supply with a GTX 1070, you can save a bit of money there. It made more sense with a 275W R9 390, but not a 150W GTX 1070 (and the GTX 1070 destroys the R9 390). Also RAM is a lot cheaper now than when I posted that,

hmmm. can't buy the four memory simms at once. bumping up to a "only can buy one" limit, or the seller only has one. WTF?

OK, here it is. I have never bought from SuperBiiz, but they have a pretty decent score at resellerratings.com. You'll get another 10% off on the cpu with promo code FIREWORKS0704 from them. Alternatively you could buy it from newegg for $395.

I would not wait, I would get that video card order in ASAP if you want your card in soon. Retailers are saying they don't expect the 1070 to be in stock fully until mid to late July. Until then they're going to sell out fast.

You just want an SSD right? Were you telling me you can recycle your old SATA hard drives? I think it has been almost a year since I first recommended that system, so I forget. How do you want to do Windows?

    (1) Retail copy -- You get phone support... which is probably useless
    (2) OEM copy -- No phone support, often $20-$40 cheaper than retail but it's tied to your motherboard forever (eg, you buy a new motherboard, you buy a new Windows... retail I think you can use on another board if you replace it)
    (3) Pirate -- Free and Microsoft publicly publishes the SHA-1 hashes for their iso files, so you can know whether a Windows ISO you download has been injected with malware or not

Whichever of the 3 methods you choose, it should be Windows 10 64-bit. There is a fourth grey market option I don't recommend

    (4) Reddit software swap -- Get a Windows 10 key for $25 or so

Because if you're not going to buy a legit copy you might as well just pirate for free instead of paying some asshole $25 for a key.

    Prolly stick to OEM.

    (edit)
Went full retail. just wanted a pretty package, and potential for support, seeing as how I won't be buying myself another computer for a while.
