This is why I was pleased to know someone besides myself actually tries to read current situations and possible outcomes from a site like The Study Of War. I was never in the military and have to look wording up so for me this and a few other sites are good for info. If you have any other sites you like that actually attempt to analyze instead of using propaganda I would appreciate you posting them. Thanks for the contributions.

I would not have, absolutely.

As soon as the initial bits bogged down though, the problems were readily apparent.

I doubt a nation of 44M will be a complete pushover. Ukraine is not Afghanistan, or Iraq. This is not the last conflict you are familiar with.

It will be far from almost bloodless for the Russians. They will still win, but will not be able to hold on to what they have taken, in the long term.

RG day two: Russia will still win, but it will take them a lot longer. 2-25-22

RG after about ten days: Russian cannot win its stated goals of toppling UKR

RG after the first month: Russia is gonna get it ass handed to it.

I think they are on the verge of actively pushing the Russian army out of their territory. Give it another month or two of grinding their "army" into dust, and getting more and more NATO weapons online.

About the time they do, it will be time to let them into NATO so they can train the rest of us. Slava Ukraini!

Thanks. I would've agreed with your initial sentence when this war started, especially before seeing the EU and US coming together the way they have. And it's still possible that Russia ends up bombing Ukraine into submission.

What's not so clear to me anymore is that Russia can afford a 5 year (much less a 10 or 20 year) war. Right now it's clear to me that Ukraine will have an endless supply of weapons if they're willing to fight, whereas Russia is going to have a lot more problems in the long run in that area.

What I call a win or loss is what the purported objectives are. For Russia, despite being fairly vague in their statements, I think it's pretty clear they ultimately want to annex Donetsk and Luhansk, on top of Crimea. Possibly Mariupol as well to have a full corridor on the Black Sea, and at the end of the day choke the Ukrainian commerce.

For Ukraine, it's defending their sovereignty, including those lands. If we go by cities taken, and considering this supposed overwhelming force, I can't think Russia achieved their objectives so far, and at this point it certainly looks pretty embarrassing, tbh...

Now that will be what will interest me.

Will UKR take back Crimea?

If UKR pushes the RUS "army" out of its borders, as is looking increasingly likely, Ima comb this thread and grab every single quote where went on about Russia winning.

What worries me though is that a common action in the wargaming the West has done is the use of a WMD on a Ukrainian city. That happens, I don't think we will ever see many of those sanctions being lifted.
