I don't see Randy doing much against him with this long layoff of his. Randy is great but Fedor is the Jordan of MMA.
Tap the breaks. Anderson Silva is much more active against top level fighters.

    Fedor is 2nd.

I thought overall the Affliction broadcast was extremely weak. the fighters did their part, but in terms of overall production i thought it was terrible. good fights though. not alot to complain about. some good KOs. and fedor looked great. i still have gsp and anderson silva above him P4P. still thinking on BJ.

    U frickin kidding me?

There is nobody better from the UFC?

Tim got demolished so fast. And where is his takedown defense?
The problem is that in UFC there is not much versitality in the takedown defense.

Bum bum on the ground, taking back, and a quick choke

pfff Fedor got better compe ion in Pride.
Nogueira was better when Fedor beaten him few years back.

    I mean come on.

    I want more Fedor fights!

And that right there is why it is crazy this guy is not in the UFC. Dana White needs to offer this guy whatever it takes to get him in the company. Can you imagine what Silva vs Fedor would do?? That is the dream match of dream matches.

I'm sure White will downplay what Fedor just did by saying "Tim is washed up". Fact is he just demolished your ex-champ like he was nothing, and he would do that to any heavy in the UFC. White damn well knows this.

Did you just propose an Anderson Silva-Fedor fight? Anderson is going back down to 185. That would be a 2 weight class difference. Dana would never let this happen, an I cant blame him.

Also, Dana said in an interview that he was indeed impressed with Fedors fight. Who knows...maybe someday Dana will see the light and get him in here.

Well they would have to fight at 205, Fedor is not a huge Heavy so it might be possible, that is more of the fan in me thinking out loud, dreaming about it. Just a shame this guy is not in the UFC and Dana White loves to talk about him, well what's up now??

OK DB making a little more since. Fedor fights at around 235 wouldnt everyone say...and Silva walks around at what...215? So maybe a 225 catch weight is the only way it would happen. Of course it wont...I was just figuring what it would take....but here is a nice little article from Yahoo sports.

LAS VEGAS – UFC president Dana White has been relentless in his criticism of ex-PRIDE heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko over the past several years.

White has criticized and mocked the popular Russian for failing to face top compe ion and taking on inexperienced and even smaller fighters over the past three years.

But upon learning that Emelianenko had submitted ex-UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia on Saturday in Anaheim, Calif., in less than a minute, White unflinchingly admitted he was impressed.

“It does (change my opinion),” he conceded. “Tim Sylvia was a real opponent.”

But it didn’t change his opinion enough to make him reconsider his opinion that Anderson Silva is the world’s best fighter.

“Not at all,” White said, beaming. “Do you even need to ask me after that?”

In a career filled with highlight reel knockouts, Silva put together one of his best in his debut at light heavyweight Saturday at the Pearl at the Palms. He caught a kick from James Irvin, connected with a straight right hand that all but knocked Irvin cold and then finished the ex-college football player with a brutal ground-and-pound.

“Like a chess game, he happened to move the wrong piece and I countered,” Silva said.

It only took him 61 seconds to win a fight that he accepted on short notice despite the risk of moving to light heavyweight for the first time. Irvin is a powerful puncher who’s had his own spectacular knockouts, having set a UFC record in April when he knocked Houston Alexander out in eight seconds.

None of it mattered much to Silva, though, who looked as comfortable as a 205-pounder as he did in tearing apart quality fighters like Rich Franklin and Dan Henderson at 185 pounds.

Silva’s power against a man that much bigger was stunning, but Brandon Vera, who dropped to light heavyweight and won a lackluster decision over Reese Andy on the undercard earlier Saturday, said it isn’t so much Silva’s power that makes him special as it is the placement of his punches.

“With Anderson, I don’t think it’s really his power, it’s his precision” Vera said. “You could give him a target a mile down the road and have him shoot at it and he would hit it dead center every time. I think it’s his precision and speed, it’s not his power. He’s not relying on power. It’s technique, man. He makes it look like ballet.”

It wasn’t the kind of ballet that Mikhail Baryshnikov would have done well in, though. It’s a sudden, hard, concussive ballet.

Irvin, who once was a defensive back at Azusa Pacific, went down from the right hand as if he were blocked by a 320-pound All-Pro tackle leading a sweep.

Silva pounced on him and pounded away, but it was all but unnecessary, as Irvin was motionless from the right.

As good as he looked against Irvin – not one of the division’s elite, but a solid middle-of-the-road light heavyweight – Silva said it would not change his mind about returning to middleweight.

He’s likely to fight at UFC 88 in Atlanta on Sept. 6 against Patrick Cote. Yushin Okami, who was to have gotten the le fight, broke his hand and won’t be able to make it.

Silva left little doubt that he could be as successful at light heavyweight as he has been at middleweight. But he told White he wants to “completely clean out” the division and will, for the time being, only look at light heavyweight bouts if there is a special event which can be made.

Franklin, the ex-middleweight champion who twice was destroyed by Silva, is moving up to light heavyweight to face Matt Hamill and had to be thrilled to hear Silva is going to remain at middleweight, far, far away from him.

“I say this all the time, but we have a great 185-pound division,” White said. “The problem is, the champion is so damn good that he makes it look like it’s not. The guy is an amazing athlete and an incredible fighter. I expected an amazing fight tonight with Irvin.

“I thought there was going to be some back-and-forth. I thought there were going to bang and, wow.”

Emelianenko hadn’t faced a ranked heavyweight since he beat Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic on Aug. 28, 2005. Since then, he’s faced a middleweight, a man in his second pro mixed martial arts bout and a series of other less than overwhelming opponents.

His performance against Sylvia erased any of those doubts, led most vocally by White, about his ability and may gain him much ground in the pound-for-pound rankings.

Silva, though, said he’s convinced the best fighters compete in the UFC, despite what Emelianenko was able to do to a two-time UFC heavyweight king.

“Once again, I think the UFC proved that it has the best fighters in the world,” Silva said. “If there were any event out there that would have the (courage) to put a team to fight against a UFC team, there is no doubt in my mind that it would be a slaughter.”

White loved everything he saw, and most of what he heard, from Silva on Saturday. But White is notorious for not co-promoting his bouts and he wasn’t about to bend on that even if his best fighter is urging him to do it.

“One more question,” White said, laughing, when asked if he’d put together a show such as Silva described.

There will be much debate how a show like that would come out. But there’s little doubt who would come out on top at middleweight.

“Man, Anderson Silva,” Vera said, shaking his head. “Dana mentioned Anderson is one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world, arguably. He showed it tonight. He jumped up to 205 and gave it to James like it was nobody’s business. James is a friend of mine and he went in there like a soldier, but Anderson Silva. Pretty much, all you need to say is his name. It’s almost a household word (in this sport), like Michael Jordan (in basketball). Wow.”

    Affliction: Banned

    * The pacing of the show was brutal (running almost five hours in a testament to the old adage, “too much of a good thing”) and the production wasn’t exactly smooth, but Affliction more than survived its first test as a promoter, presenting a solid show that delivered three exciting heavyweight fights to close the night.
    * The official gate numbers aren’t yet available and pay-per-view results won’t be in for weeks, but with a $4-6 million payroll, in addition to startup costs, it’s a virtual certainty that the show lost money. That said, it’s important to remember that Zuffa lost roughly $40 million between its first event (UFC 30 in 2001) and UFC 51 (the first pay-per-view after the Ultimate Fighter), for an average of roughly $2 million an event. And since that time the financial stakes of the sport have been raised significantly.
    * Last night wasn’t about the present as much as it was the future. Affliction established a base from which it can extend the reach of its brand, particularly with several attractive heavyweight matches in play over the next two events. The company could easily go to Fedor v. Barnett and/or Arlovski over the next two shows, putting aside the potential mega-fight with Couture.

    UFC: Silva vs Irvin

    * The ultimate success of this show depends on two factors: how much it hurt Affliction and how much it helped Anderson Silva. As noted above, the effect on Affliction’s bottom line is unknown for the moment, but the show almost certainly elevated Silva.
    * The UFC spent two weeks telling everyone that would listen that Silva was the best pound for pound fighter in the world today. The return on that investment of time and resources was another stunning performance that paves the way for a number of big fights in the UFC’s premiere division, if the company and Silva are so inclined. It will be interesting to see the rating for the show, but if that didn’t make Anderson Silva a draw, perhaps nothing will.
    * That said, Patrick Cote is not the opponent to go to next. Despite what he or anybody else says, Silva has already cleaned out the Middleweight division of marketable challengers. 205 pounds is where Silva belongs for the foreseeable future.
    * Overall it was another solid event for the UFC, something it doesn’t get nearly the credit it deserves for consistently delivering. The company’s complete competency as a live event producer and its regular habit of delivering entertaining events is largely taken for granted. However, contrasted with Affliction’s maiden voyage, the UFC’s nearly seamless production was much easier to appreciate. Affliction may have shown that it has the best heavyweight division in the sport, but the UFC proved once again that its presentation is unmatched. Experience has its advantages and its something that money can’t buy.

I dont think Fedor's strategy to take people down is to punch their ass to the floor. Fedor likes to do his work from the clinch.

he needs to learn to.....LET GO. move on with your life randy. focus on your gym and get back on UFC broadcasts. the guy was such a hero of so many but lost so much respect so fast. most casual/remote fans dont know who nog is or why hes the champ. alot of my friends who called him their favorite fighter have no idea where hes gone. he needs to pull a John Beckwith in "Wedding Crashers" and save himself before he goes under espescially with this acting career of his. forget fedor already geez. i want captain america back.

and the sad thing is, randy could have had one of the most amazing stories in the history of sports. coming back from the dead at 43 after a devestating divorce and 2 KO losses to Liddell, to stun the world winning 3 straight upset wins(assuming he beat Nog). and he could have retired a hero to kids everywhere. and continued working with the ufc broadcasts. but instead he got invloved with his self ego and i think worried about his legacy to much. hes a hall of famer and a legend of the game. he doesnt need to fight fedor to solidify his legacy. hes done enough, in fact its kind of ironic because all of these politics with fedor have actually have hurt his legacy. its a shame. and its too late to fix it. forget trying it now randy. the toll has been taken. and as much as i dont want to say it....retire already randy.
