Guys, isn't chile piquin those half sized, very thin jalapeno looking peppers? They sell them at HEB right next to the jalapenos. But I have never seen the dried red ones here.

My dad says the same things about enchiladas.
That's what my grandpa always said, too. We only had cheese in ours, and not that gross yellow . Always the queso blanco.

I'm not reading the whole thread because it's making me hungry, but y'all are making me think of my Mexican Aunt Josie, who was a great cook and watched me one year after school. Her arroz con pollo is the . "The secret is fresh ajo y comino!" :drool

My neighbor has a huge plant growing in his back yard. I've reached over his fence a few times and taken a load of them. I've never seen them sold in stores. Back home they grow wild all over the place.
My mom has a big plant at her house too.

I'm probably showing how white I am but I've got a question...

My cousin's grandmother was mexican and she would make this soup called Calavacita (what she called it) and it was basically chicken corn squash zuccini tomatoes onions and a bunch of es that made it super delicious.

Has anyone ever heard of this type of soup? If so, is that what it's really called?

Any help is appreciated, I've been trying to look for recipes online to try to make it on my own.

You have to use it sparingly. Too much of it is overpowering, imo, but I can't imagine cooking some things without it.

I've never really seen it as a soup before, but I could eat that all day long. I've found several recipes, but none yet that even come remotely close to my grandmother's.
