People were jumping from windows because of the AF1? Really?
People were remembering their friends, family members, and coworkers jumping from burning buildings when they saw Air Force One approaching -- along the same flight path as the jet that struck the South Tower. Yeah.

    ing re .

9-1-1 was flooded with calls from panicked New Yorkers claiming we were being attacked again.

It was a stupid stunt and, the more I learn, I wonder why the it was done to begin with?

Air Force One is the same jet that is in the previous slick over Liberty Island and the goddamn monument hasn't changed.

I guess all righties get the inside scoop of what goes on in the Oval office.
It was really Air Force One...well, the plane that becomes Air Force One when the President is aboard.

But, if it weren't, that would just add to the ing questions...

Besides, if you're going to pull such a stunt, why not on Sunday morning? Why on Monday at the beginning of the business day when people are just getting settled into their 47th floor offices?

This is stupid on so many levels...

And, it cost $330,000 to boot! For what?

Only because the president was allegedly not on it.

Airforce One is the call sign given to any airplane that carries the president.

I cannot help but wonder if he was really on the airplane, and wanted to see NY up close.

    Photo Op my ass...
    You're an idiot.

....and has already requested an internal review be done to figure out whose stupid idea this was
It was the White House's stupid idea...and, apparently, it was being planned for about three months (roughly coinciding with when Obama took office.)

And, while he may not have been specifically aware of the mission, Obama was certainly told Air Force One wouldn't be available for travel that day or, his schedule was adjusted to allow for the mission.

But, even if he had no clue, it's just another example of the 9/10 mentality of this administration and the people he's chose to populate his executive office. Even after being told it would cause a panic, they decided to go forward and insist on secrecy. Why?

The President's travel plans -- except for surprise visits to war zones and such -- are published days, even weeks, in advance. Why the does his empty plane need a classified mission to buzz New York City? I mean, couldn't they have at least let New Yorkers know the ing week it was going to occur?

Okay, I took you off ignore to see what idiocy you had to share -- particular after that stupid comment that it wasn't Air Force One.

You're right. There's two identical planes and they always travel in pairs with the president. One as the decoy/backup and the other with him on board.

What's you're point? It's the plane the President uses to travel?

When one is not available -- the president doesn't travel. Especially after 9-11.

The Air Force One photo-op flight over lower Manhattan on Monday was so secret that the president and the secretary of defence learned only after hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers watched in terror as the jet and two fighter planes buzzed the city, and the White House is scrambling to find out why.

A top aide to President Barack Obama has begun an internal review of the $329,000 "flying photo op" and training flight that evoked memories of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the city, and the White House has not ruled out sacking the official who planned the stunt.

Obama was said to be livid about the matter and a spokesman said US secretary of defence Robert Gates was "surprised and not very pleased".

Officials have said the operation was planned and executed within the White House military office, the bureau that handles much of the White House's day-to-day operations, and that Obama and his chief of staff Rahm Emanuel were unaware of the flight beforehand.

Obama has tasked White House deputy chief of staff Jim Messina with investigating how the decision was made and ensuring such an operation will never happen again. A defence department official said yesterday that a rumoured similar session in the skies over Washington will not happen.

"The president will look at that review and take any appropriate steps after that," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs told reporters yesterday.

New York's WCBS television reported it had obtained an internal federal aviation administration memo in which officials acknowledge "the possibility of public concern regarding [department of defence] aircraft flying at low al udes". The station said the agency threatened federal sanctions if the New York police department, the secret service, the FBI and the New York City mayor's office did not heed demands for secrecy.

On Monday morning a Boeing 747 jet painted with the presidential Air Force One colours flew over lower Manhattan, tailed by two fighter jets, for several minutes. New York mayor Mike Bloomberg blasted the action and said he had not been consulted. Amid the uproar, White House military office director Louis Caldera late on Monday took responsibility for the decision and apologised.

The US defence department said the flight was primarily a training exercise, though a spokesman also acknowledged it was a "flying photo op".

"We've all seen photo ops of Air Force One over American icons - you know, the Grand Canyon, Mount Rushmore, whatever it may be," said Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell. "This was just an unfortunate choice of locations, especially without pre-notification of the people of New York."

Yesterday Gibbs would not rule out firing Caldera, the former secretary of the US army: "I think our course would be to conduct the review before something like that is determined."

What's your point? You guys are trying your damndest to say Obama planned this himself down to the very last detail.

    He didn't.

I never said he did. But, his people did. Caldera is his appointee. They're all idiots. From Biden to Napolitano to Chu to Geightner to this Caldera . They're way out of their league.

The only people who will be talking about this past this week will be idiots like you.
I'm betting there are several thousand -- may tens of thousands -- New Yorkers that will be talking about this for quite awhile.

That's my understanding. The President doesn't travel without both of them.

meh, you see what you want.

    Nah, they're tougher than you.
So, you advocate torture of New Yorkers because they're tougher than me and the White House needed a new picture of the same plane flying by the same national monument?

I thought you were opposed to torture although, I've had you on ignore so long I suppose it's possible you've changed your position.

No, I said it was a stupid idea and whoever put out the gag order to local officials should resign.

A question for the board Republicans: Has ANY liberal said this was a smart thing to do? Or said that they don't think it was a mistake? Or said that it should not be investigated, or that the person who signed off on this was a dumbass?

Or are they just stating that Obama didn't know about it personally?

Yeesh. Obama better not tell the media what his favorite cereal is, or the media would probably twist that around into him being some commie-lover too.
