Compared to going to the Clippers, Knicks, or Nets...
Clippers were a game away from getting the 8 spot over the Warriors( Chokericks). I thought LA was gonna get ready to suck with everything. I knew Kobe was goin g to ask for a trade after watching/hearing his post game interview for game 5. He said he didn't know what the future holded for him on this team.

And didn't the Nets beat the Raptors in the playoffs that year? Unless you are talking about this year's teams for the 3 above mentioned.

Why, because you are too stupid to say something yourself because you have no idea what you are talking about because you are probably a 15 year old moron? Kindly shut the up, lakerfan.
So the yielding begins. It was a matter of time.
So your convinced that I am 15 year old ay?

"Do you know who I am? I am the ManFromAcme. I made my bones when you were running away from Cheerleaders"

My dear lad, I've been watching Laker basketball in a cognizant manner since 1980.

With that said, get of Fish's back. Your obsession is rather odd.

So things being almost equal among those teams in terms of their success at the time (similar records and all low seeded playoff teams), doesn't the team with Kobe Bryant still look better?

Now what you say about Kobe demanding a trade and not knowing the future of the Lakers could very well be true, but I'd figure Fisher actually talked to Kobe about things, about the team and its direction as well as just asking him about his situation. I think Fisher knew what most people knew down deep inside, and that even if Kobe demanded a trade, the Lakers weren't going to trade him. And, then you add what back then looked like a very promising big man in Bynum, and I think those two players alone and Phil Jackson would give a player like Fisher more confidence than going to a team like the Clippers or Nets. Not to mention it's not like Fisher was going to start ahead of Jason Kidd on the Nets.

Perhaps as a Laker fan you didn't feel the same way at the time, but I think the Lakers looked to be a better situation than teams like the Nets, Knicks, and Clippers.

I'll make fun of the guy for crying, a little (I can understand the situation), but to call him out for trying to do what is in the best interest of him and his family is ridiculous. There is two sides to every business deal. Fisher asked to be let go from his contract, and the Utah Jazz obliged. I'm pretty sure that if the Jazz had not released Fisher, then the majority of the people would be calling the Jazz a s bag organization because they didn't let Fisher be with his family.

Phillip is turning into KBP. He's providing no link to the claims he is making.

    Thank you mf10.

Ultimately Fish did what was best for his family and him.
Not a hard concept to grasp at that.

    From the AP report:

He didn't rule out playing for another NBA team but emphasized that his daughter's health is his No. 1 priority.
    http://www.hoopsvibe.com/features/br...ters-treatment

Fisher played for the Jazz last year, but his daughter was diagnosed with a rare eye cancer. Fisher asked to opt out of his contract, so he could have better access to health care for her. He was subsequently picked up by the Lakers due to the proximity of a cancer treatment center for his daughter.
    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2...utah-jazz-fans

Fisher was granted a release by the late Larry H. Miller after he asked for the opportunity to play in a market where he could get the best care for his daughter. He'd had trouble balancing basketball and his daughter's treatment, as evidenced by the very emotional cross-country trip from New York City to Utah to play in a playoff game against Golden State.

then suddenly signs with LA 2 days later. That's shady.
He was released July 2, 2007 and signed with the Lakers July 19, 2007. If my math is correct that is more than 2 days later.

It's a secret award! With secret voters!

FWIW, I voted for you and luva, though I think you were 2nd team Culby, and luva first. When I think Laker fan on these boards, I think luva, for better or worse. Mostly worse.

But it's pretty much fact that nowhere near Utah were there places that could give Fisher's daughter the same quality and level of care as cities like LA and NY and Miami. That's not made up. That's actually true.

Nah I feel for him, hes gone through a lot of . Having a child with a health condition is a pretty big ing deal. I work on the side for a nonprofit that deals with parents who have children with special health care needs and it takes a ing toll on the parents and family. Fisher was able to overcome that and hit those shots, hes got a right to be emotional.

And he's a piece of for using his daughters illness as a way to get what he truly wanted... to play for the Lakers. He had a contract to play for Utah.
Have you even bothered to read Derek and his Wife's explaination?

Your first misconception is that he got out of his contract because he wanted to play elsewhere. That is simply not the case. He talked with Miller and they agreed to negate the contract. Fisher left millions on the table. He knew he would need to be in the NY or LA area to receive the proper attention for his daughter.

Do you have a child? I'm guessing no. Cause anyone who does knows that you would do anything and everything for them in this situatuon. Has your family or any you know gone through an illness or disease with a child? It's heartbreaking and takes a HUGE mental, physical, and financial toll on all involved. Of course the finiancial aspect has no bearing in this case.

So now he's at the point where he's basically a free agent and needs to look in the two previously discussed locals. He looked at offers from several teams and at the time the Lakers needed him and made an offer. Of course, from a basketball point of view he's going to choose the Lakers. They were up and coming, there is a history there, and with that comes familiarity.

Familiarity. That's what you and eveyone who berates Fish about this fail to see. Fish's wifes extended family are in LA. So here you are, you 1st priority is for your daughters care and 2nd is the basketball career. What do you do?

Pick up the family, move to the other side of the country, and start anew in a city you have never lived in with no family within thousands of miles? Or do you do exactly what Fish did as he explained. He chose LA because he would be gone many times throughout the year with his basketball travels. At those times his wife would be home alone trying to take care of 2 children, one of who has a life threatening illness. You have no clue what that takes. They are here simply because her extended family is too and they can very much help out with the one daughter as the wife is attenting to the responsibilities of the ill one.

When people are threatened with life altering incidents, especially medical ones, you gravitate to your family and close friends for support and assistance. Familiarity!
