Just finished watching this... Neal was a man out there...
This game just shows you that there will be games where Gee can't just simply get away with driving to the rack at will. He needs to work out with Chip on that shot, and he'll be a heck of a player. His defense is already there, and nobody can't complain about his athleticism and work ethic.

Does Squeaky have any offense or does he only play defense? His offensive stats from the Toros doesn't impress.
He occasionally scores in bunches and has a decent 3pt stroke, but he is almost loathe to score. Can run an offense and has an extremely low turnover rate.

I watched the 2nd half. Neal was good, I know him while he was playing in Turkey. He was an excellent scorer here and he showed his quality in summer league. The speakers told that he spend his last year in one of the European big teams Benetton Treviso. Benetton is not a European big since last 3 or 4 years but not a bad team at all.
Unfortunately Neal plays SG and we can't use him as a back-up PG position.

Beside him I really like Wilkerson, he has a nice touch and good athlete. Watkins was good at rebounds but he's far away from being an NBA player.

Alonzo Gee was not good in this match. He showed some flashes, (like his 180 dunk), but he couldn't shine in the game. Jerrells was not good too, i didn't like his game yesterday.

Our summer league team is a very good, all the players are playing well together and defending very hard. But none of them can be more than a 12-13th player in NBA.

And an advice to Lommers. He's 7 footer and 280 lbs, but he should change his job. He has no chance in playing basketball

Just rewatched the game on the big TV. The Lakers seem to have the most pro-caliber players, so this was likely going to tell us more than previous games. I have a couple of thoughts; hope they're helpful or inspire a bit of conversation.

    • As a Baylor fan, I haven't pulled any punches in my critique of Curtis Jerrells, but I think CJ did a great job of running the offense, far better than he's done so far this summer league. There's no doubt he can handle the ball, and he's excellent at creating space for himself, but against the Lakers he did the same thing with a focus on setting up his teammates. He still took shots for himself on occasion, and he still had a couple of WTF shots, but he probably warrants an invite to camp just to see if he can continue that play making ability with guys who are more likely to finish. Not a ton of assists, but he made several very good passes to teammates that should have resulted in scores.

    • Patrick Watkins looks exactly like Robert Horry on the floor. The only thing he lacks is desire, hustle, and a basketball IQ. He and Lomers are threatening to become the softest center rotation in summer league history.

    • Dwayne Mitc 's intriguing, but I don't know if it's anything more than his athletecism. Can the Spurs hire Bruce Bowen to give him a crash course in defense? Is he tall enough? Does he actually have short arms or does he just look that way because of his physique?

    • Tyler Wilkerson is another guy that surprised me a bit. I'm going to go back and watch all his minutes. He has a nice shooting touch and I'm more impressed with his nine rebounds than I was with Watkins' 11.

    • Many people on this board suggested that Gee shoot from the outside more even if he had a lane to the basket, and it seems he was given that same advice before this game. He obliged those folks and his game completely came apart. To his credit, he didn't seem to lose interest and still gave effort, but he wasn't effective on the offensive end. He went back to work in the second half and was much better. I believe he even hit a few outside shots once he got his rhythm going. I still say having guys who have a nose for the rim and can play in traffic have more value than guys who can only score from outside.

    • While I'm on that topic, Gary "choo-choo" Neal can shoot, and he isn't really good at anything else. I fully expect Pop to invite him to camp and pronounce him his favorite player at some point if Temple doesn't get healthy pretty quick. I'm only half serious, and wish I weren't.

No reason to be half serious, imo Pop doesn't like Temple and Hill because they can shoot. He likes 'em because of their hustle, they improve their overall games, and they're active defensively. And maybe they like listening to his stories as well.

I know Neal's rep is as a shooter and nothing more, but in watching the Laker game, I noticed some quick hands on D. He was prying some balls away in traffic.

He also seems a little bigger than I thought and he's solid as a rock -- it's hard to find a pure shooter who also has an NBA body like he's got.

I think he has high upside in the Spurs' system.

I wasn't really impressed with any of the Bigs, to be honest.
Jerrells was good, but I don't know if he really can become a backup-PG for the Spurs.
Neal is a very nice shooter. Too bad Anderson can't play right now, I really would have liked to see him out there.
The team defense was pretty good, especially in the first half.

Neal has more in common with guys like over the hill Michael Finley and pre Golden State Anthony Tolliver than he does with Temple or Hill.

I've seen nothing beyond "tightness in his right calf" which I think comes from JMac, so it's not even for certain that it's not his left calf.
