Pearl Jam needed Nirvana, but Ten has outsold Nevermind? Yeah, okay.
AiC is just being the superior grunge band they are supposed to be.
Alice in Chains had some fame, but Nirvana took their fame to another level. Pearl Jam needed Nirvana. Soundgarden had some fame but blew up because of Nirvana.
Nirvana was the catalyst that allowed so many other bands to blow up.
Having said that, Alice in Chains couldn't hold a candle to anything Nirvana produced.

Nirvana wouldn't exist without Melvins and Pixies. Kurt didn't exactly hide his influences.
You are obviously a delusional Nirvana fanboy if you think that's true.
Nirvana is garbage compared to AiC. Layne Staley destroys Kurt Cobain vocally and Jerry Cantrell is a ton better than Cobain at guitar. Only edge they have is Grohl imo. Nirvana is the mainstream crap that wishes it could be Alice in Chains.
This is like the only intelligent thing I've ever seen this guy post.![]()

I'm not saying you should kill yourself but you should definitely look into the possibility of ending your life.
With any discussion of music you need to set boundaries, agree upon parameters. Else everyone keeps dancing around semantics like in this thread.
But anyone in their mid 20s or older should realize by now that radio has completely destroyed Nirvana, whereas that effect is not as intense with Pearl Jam.
Anything else you say is guesswork over kurt cobain. I highly highly doubt that Nirvana would still be in the game like Pearl Jam is. And you can not help but respect Pearl Jam for their acting on their foresight of where the whole "grunge" thing was headed. They went from stage center to road less traveled over the course of like one month.
Where is:
ZZ Top
The Eagles
Buddy Holly
Boston
Chicago
Alabama
CCR
The Allaman Brothers
The Doobie Brothers
There are several artists on the VH1 list that just should not be on the list.

Hotel California alone should have gotten them on the list.
lol jay Z over both mcdonalds master and two pac
Um.... this ^^^.
Also was Simon and Garfunkel or the Grateful Dead on the list?
Final 5 rank
5. Bob Dylan
4. Rolling Stones
3. Led Zeppelin
2. Michael Jackson
1. Beatles
Michael Jackson better than Led Zeppelin...yeaaaaaaaahhhhhhh ok
Guarantee if he's still alive when this list was made he wouldn't have even cracked the top 5.
If MJ were still alive and didn't crack the top 5, it would be because he was a weirdo and an alleged child molester and some people would have a problem giving him his due.
As an artist, Michael is every bit deserving of being considered the second "top" music artist. Whether he's better than Zeppelin to any particular individual is a matter of taste. So just as you might take Zeppelin over Michael, my taste is Michael over Zeppelin. But it's just individual musical taste.
That's what all these lists and rankings are. Subjective taste. But it's not like Michael doesn't have the record sales or obvious impact on music to back up his ranking. He does. And then some. You could argue he's the greatest musical artist of all time.
I didn't read most of the thread but it's on right now and the host mentioned that other artists voted on it saying that MJ was number one on the ballots of musicians like P. Diddy and others.
So, I guess it's based on people that voted...
But you all probably already knew that.
And yeah the list sucks. PF at 18 is too low for my taste.
Take it to the Limit, FTW
What I never get is why the Beatles are just always placed at #1 no matter what.
Obviously a delusional Pink Floyd fanboy
Listen to their last six albums and read up on their history.
lmao at no paul simon, james taylor, bob seger or hank williams.
...and no Spinal Tap?!![]()
- VH1's ratings are in the toilet. This list should be viewed as a publicity-seeking ratings grab, not an attempt at objective music criticism.
- Jerry Garcia and/or Grateful Dead belong somewhere on the list. But VH1 probably didn't have enough stock footage in their archive to give them a slot.
Um thanks for sharing this. Did you tell me anything important here?
Where's Animal Collective?
