Bonner should have been credited with the steal at the end of the game that led to 2 George Hill FTs. If he wasn't then it was a mistake by the scorer.
Shoog, Bonner's suckage in last year's playoffs is really overblown.
Bonner's 2 big 3's were nice but he was destroyed the rest of the game by any big he attempted to guard...that killed the Spurs as much as anything.
Gasol 24 points...
ZBo 25 points...
Bonner 3 rebounds...
Neal 3 rebounds...
That said, Dice sucked worse today...
And he played well for those 24 minutes. He played good defense, actually boarded really well, and came through with clutch shots.
Some people just can't give Bonner the credit he deserves it seems.
You're really ing reaching to knock on Bonner today.
He didn't play well. He made two huge shots which is nice, but that doesn't erase getting ass pounded by the MEM front line.
Still think the Spurs have got this in 6, but god damn if Bonner is getting 20 + minutes a game against this frontline we are ed.
He played ok, but only because of those two shots. For me, those two shots erase most of the bad though.
i wish bonner didnt make those 3s......its just more reasons to go this wrong direction
I don't know why I'm surprised people can't just give Bonner credit given the track record of this forum.
Carry on.
What????
He needs to play both ends... 49 points on their bigs has something to do with Matt, right? I mean, after all, Dice was in foul trouble for a long time...
He'll get credit when he helps Tim on both ends of the floor... as small as Blair is, he nabbed 6 boards in less minutes... I don't care if he hits back to back to back 3's... he's only catching up to what he's giving up on the other end...
Out of the 3 bigs not named Duncan, Bonner played the best defense. Furthermore, its not Bonner's role on this team to be a defensive stopper. He's going to get beat more than a guy like McDyess because he brings other things to the table. He played very good defense today.
Blair and McDyess gave up far more points to those two than Bonner did.
If Bonner goes in and place average defense and makes his open threes then he's played his role and he's done so well. If he hits clutch threes then you have pretty much NOTHING to complain about with Bonner.
He's not going to be Duncan on the defensive end. You guys can't seem to understand that. There's a reason they are called role players.
Played well for 24 minutes?
He needed help on his man seemingly everytime, got bailed out by dumb Memphis fouls when he was about to turn the ball over, bricked his other two shots, passed up an open shot early in his playtime iirc, and was pancaked and thrown to the ground in the 4th among other lowlights.
Some people just give Bonner credit he doesn't deserve it seems.
I disagree Manny. When he's out there he needs to play both ends... especially if he's out there in crunch time... otherwise, don't play him. We're not going to agree on this, and that's fine.
If we are already conceding points with Bonner on the court, just in the hope he makes 3's, he has no business being on the floor.
And FWIW, I've given Bonner credit when he has played well... obviously it hasn't happened yet either in the playoffs...
Bonner wasn't the problem. He was way better than Dice/Blair. He played well for about 3-4 minutes but it was in the clutch so he gets a passing grade.
The only thing more surprising about his clutch play today is that Manny isn't being as re ed as he usually is.
So his role is to be a turnstile on defense? Is that what you're telling me? I think Pop would want more than that...
So basically you're saying that except for The Golden Minute, this game would have been just another brick in the legacy of playoff suckage?
He does play both ends but its stupid to expect all of your players to play equally on both ends of the court. Its completely unrealistic.
Like I said, he was the best defensive big not named Duncan today. You can't knock that.
Pop should have played Tiago, but he should have taken AD's or Blairs minutes.
He was far from a turnstile. He played good defense. I'm not saying he was a DPOY candidate today, but he was good on the defensive end. If Bonner plays good positional defense and hits 3s he's filled his role.
