Just got done reading that. Pretty good for a quick, light read.

It was interesting. The follow up short stories were kind of fun too. Drake and Weber are good at that kind of thing.

Baenebooks.com has another fascinating book, "1632", about what would happen if a small town in the US got plopped down in Germany during the Protestant Reformation. The ideas and ideals, both scientific and social/economic (i.e. democracy, and corporations) were interesting things to play with. He has a couple of sequels as well.

If you like military sci-fi, Drake is a good author, whose Hammers Slammers series from the 1980's were some of my introduction in to military science/tactics. Hammers Slammers was a high-tech mercenary unit of heavy futuristic armor.

Weber, for his part did a long-running successful series based on a young space navy officer, Honor Harrington, and her rise through the ranks. The first in that series is "On Basilisk Station", also free at http://www.baenebooks.com/c-1-free-library.aspx

Wonderful library of older sci-fi. Gives you the first in a lot of series for free, so you can see if you like it enough to spend money buying the follow ups to see what happens next.

I think you would get a kick out of the overall story arc of the Harrington series. Take that for what it is worth. It is one of the few sci-fi series where I will plunk down cash for new hardbacks. He does blather on a bit about technical stuff occasionally, but the overall storytelling more than compensates for this minor short-coming, IMO.

I'm actually about halfway through The Terror. Really great book with interesting setting. Not like anything else I've read. My first time with Dan Simmons.
About 250 pages in, and this book is great. It has a monster but I am more fearful of some of the realistic dangers so far

Not McMurty's best by any means, but still fun and a very quick read compared to his other stuff.

I love Julia Child, but this biography is probably the most hyperbolic one I've read. I have learned a few things I didn't know about her though.

So sorry. Clarke's writing in this series goes downhill badly as it progresses, and 3001 is basically a novella padded with chapters from the previous books.

    As for me:

Oh really man that is so disappointing. I loved 2001 and 2010 so much, I was so glad there was two more
