Kindergarden field trip.
There was a diamond j on blanco/bitters for a long time.
The only place we could go as teens to shoot pool
Kindergarden field trip.
Olmos Theater
Waaay back in the days before home video, this was one of my favorite places on the planet.
I saw many classic & foreign films here, back when it was a rep/art film house. First saw all the Universal Horror movies here...Casablanca, Maltese Falcon...magic.
Nothing like seeing movies on the big screen.
Getting nostalgic got Rachel pregnant.
Didn't WhopperBurger become Murf's Better Burger? Murfs was ing great back in the 80s and 90s (does it even exist still?).
Loved Whopperburger. Triple cheeseburger and fires. I thought Burger King bought them out.
Some nice photos here:
San Antonio Theatres: Now & Then
Not sure about the Murfs over by the ATT Center, but I'm pretty sure the last time I went down San Pedro, I noticed that one was closed.
Murfs did have awesome burgers, fries and orange slushes but there would be months that would go by before I would go there. I would wonder to myself why it had been so long.
Then I would walk inside and instantly remember why.
CSP made an awesome sandwich called the Chelsea King. Damn, I miss that sandwich! Anyone got the recipe for it?![]()
When I was a kid, my mother sold arcade machines. When John Santikos opened the Galaxy theatres, I used to get stacks of free movie passes and comps for concessions that didn't have restrictions because Santikos bought all the video games from the company she worked for.
...good times.![]()
I'm not sure if it became Murf's or not. All I know is when WhopperBurger went, so did the Orange Freeze
Also, they're the reason why San Antonio never had a Burger King until the 90s. Not like that's a bad thing.
My brother used to work at Sommers Drug Store in Wonderland. There was also a Sommers on Nogalitos. Not sure if there were more.
Shakey's Pizza was great even thought it was actually a chain. There was also a chain called Burger Chef. It was fast food but you fixed it yourself like a pre-Fudruckers.
LMAO @ Robert Hall (men's clothing store)!!!
Yes Viva you are correct....Alladins was in Ingram....Diamond J's was in Westlakes Mall
Nobody remembers Showbiz Pizza?
How bout Chess King in Ingram Park Mall?
Po Folks Seafood Restaurant? If I remember correctly, didn't they have complementary sodas while you waited to be seated?
LOL Chess King
for all your -bag accessories:
The store was a specialty clothing outlet that sold men's and women's lines of "faux-upscale" 80's designer wear. More specifically, the cheesiest, sleaziest, ugliest and most eye-searing 80's clothes you could possibly find. Velcro closures? Check. Mesh designs? Check. Excessive use of leather? Check. Odd-colored thick v-neck sweater vests? Check. Just think of any tacky 80's trend, and then spin it as "upscale." That's Chess King.

I was too young for that store, and its just a feint memory, but I remember my brother started buying clothes from there after he got his first job at Montgomery Wards haha...good times good times.
Where a kid can be a kid!
I liked Godfather's pizza.
I remember showbiz. It used to be what the chuck e cheese was by Ingram mall. There's a do entary about showbiz out there.
I don't remember a Po folks seafood restaurant but there was a Po folks on fredricksburg when I was a kid.
I also remember Showbiz over at Ingram, but I think I went maybe once. Usually went to chuck e cheese when it was at Mccullough/Rector behind North Star Mall.
PoFolks had the bottle soda while you wait (don't recall if it was free or not) and served it in Mason jars at the table. Our last visit was when my dad bit down hard on a piece of broken plate that was in his food. Manager didn't even comp his meal.
I miss them and Aunt Julies

I don't know if some of these places/businesses are even still there because I haven't spent much time in S.A. myself but I just remembered;
Bud Jones (all the fish you can eat) on Military Drive
The Cow Palace (ice creamery)
Griffs (5 burgers for a buck)
Yeah that was it. I guess it wasn't a seafood restaurant.
As far as showbiz....there was this little room that only about 4 ft high, pitch black, and there were strobe lights in there going off in there. The draw to the room was that people looked like they were moving in slow motions because the only visibility was when the strobe flashed.
There would never.....NEVER be a room like anymore that for kids with all the epilepsy out there. There is to much risk. Maybe that's why they shut it down in the first place.
Oh, man. Aunt Julies. I loved that place.
there's a griff's up here in Garland. Don't know if its the same chain.
Early 90's there used to be a Rally's burger joint where you got 5 burgers and 5 fries for 5 bucks!
Favorite childhood birthday joints:

And we laughed right back at them
Btw, I made them rebuild them and sent the ATT Center (SBC Center) to the east-side lol![]()
So now they aren't looking at housing projects anymore, although a certain percentage are low income.
And I agree, RIP Victoria Courts
