If I remember correctly, CC supported the ends (more kids in pre-k), but wanted it to go through existing channels (the districts who already have the infrastructure) and existing funding channels (increased property taxes).

I don't know if this was CC or someone else, but I think they wanted it to include all pre-k age kids (rather than those who should already be being served by the state like castro's bill).

I pretty much agree with all of the above.
    In.

    I can agree with that.
Darrin, Poptech, WC, and Yoni broke RG. Oh and that one Paulbot whom I can't think of right now.

Even as much as I just post to with WC he still got under my skin at times. Darrin too. Best approach, IMO, is just not to enage them for the most part. I think that's RG's new plan but he's a bit bitter apparently.

I thought the most compelling line of Castro's speech was that the American Dream is not a sprint or even a marathon, but a relay. This line resonated wth me. Even though the focus is often on Hispanics, and to some extent Asians, there are also plenty of Americans with roots in Central and Eastern Europe who have not been in this country that long either. My dad was only a second generation American and my grandparents did not graduate from high school. It was important to them for my dad to get an education and he graduated from college. Now, he has 3 kids with Master's Degrees and of the grandchildren, 1 has a Masters and 4 are in graduate school right now.

I also very much appreciated Mic e Oabma saying that success is not about how much money you make. I am pretty tired of hearing the Republican party frame success in that way, and I thought she did a good job of countering that notion.

SMH at the usual suspect's inability to see past their own viewpoints and understand why anybody might have the gall to think about historical events differently than the mindless aping of what they were told about them in movies as kids.

I couldn't find the picture showing the "brown/black/white" water fountain that hispanics and mexicans were subjected to by white Texans.

    Better?

I did not watch the speeches but I definitely like these two ideas you highlighted.

The funding mechanism is a 1/8 penny tax increase, generally paid for by people who would most benefit from it in the first place.
Not that I fully agree with the pre-K program and the city being involved in it, but considering people were happy to pay the same tax so millionaires could get a publicly paid-for AlamoDome, I am not too upset about it.

Again, not sure what I missed.

I will read further in the other thread, as I have a feeling there is more, based on what Manny said.
so as not to hijack, this will be my last post on the subject (considering there is a thread about it), but it wasn't about the money, but about efficiency. Why create a whole new city buracracy (call it the San Antonio Dept. of education) when such infrastructure already exists on the district level? Also why fire a city bullet (sales tax increase) when the aforementioned districts have their own funding mechanism (property tax increase)? This is especially poigniant when you take into account that after this 1/8 cent increase is the last increase that the city can make (they would hit the max sales tax of 8.25%, leaving the city with no more flexibility).

When all else fails...drop a race bomb or compare people to 9/11 nutters. Nice.
You can dish it but can't take it?

Sorry, if you don't like the comparison, quit acting and thinking like them.

    Well not anymore.

I will say that I have been pretty impressed by your patience and the fact that you took certain posters seriously. I think that you deserve a bit of respite.

If Texas had lost the war, the Castros would be battlling drug cartels and a corrupt government that is allowing the vast natural resources of Mexico to be squandered while the population lives in squalid conditions. Perhaps, of course, the Castros would be part of the corrupt government -- they're a talented lot.

Is that what you call your inability to answer my questions about your accusations?

No, you are simply an idiot. You accuse me of an assumption I make, but it was your assumption that assumed I made an assumption, and you aren't man enough to explain in my question in that thread regarding it.

Did you have a revelation that all along, you were wrong maybe?

This discussion can end in this thread and continue in the one I linked. The answer to your questions are there. I'll bet Butthurt Manny will not answer me there though. I kicked his ass too much in that thread.
