Besides the WC/NBA championship comparisson isn't fair.

In soccer if you're stuck on a bad national team you're ed 'cause there's nothing you can do. In the NBA you can leave your team and join two other superstars, for example.

How do you take that out of what I said? Seriously.
Not true, specially not in a sport where you can play much better than the rival on a certain game and still lose. And in a single elimination game tournament that its played every 4 years it's even less true.

On basketball is very difficult if not impossible to lose a game when you play better than your opponent and then there's the little detail of the WC being played once every 4 years which gives a player the chance to win it only 3 or 4 times in your career max.

huh? ever heard of the refs? they can affect and NBA game as bad as FIFA refs. Maybe more since there's more involvement.

again, IMO Messi doesn't even have to win one. He needs to dominate one and be the MVP of one and take his team to at least the semis. that hasn't happened yet.

What has Messi accomplished when he's not playing with one of the best midfields ever?

A gold medal, an U-20 Coapa America and WC (beating on the road many of his teammates on Barcelona), got to the final of the Copa America and currently leads the qualifiers in South America. Is not like he had many chances to play without said midfield, tbh.

Admittedly I don't watch soccer, but how can anyone think Lebron would be a bad answer? He's won 3 MVPs, will be winning his 4th soon, and is being compared to Michael Jordan in his dominance of the game. So clearly you can't go wrong either way.

brazil has been suffering with poor form in recent years so leading in south america ain't really much of an achievement as it sounds like tbh, and no one gives a double s about the olympics soccer games especially when the games were held in beijing. olympic soccer games might be the least significant of all global football tournaments tbh, even n!ggers and be@ners have won the olympic gold medals

so now for Messi's cheer leaders, WC is not that important

In soccer WC is the only thing that REALLY matter tbh

In soccer most guys are already professionals at that age, Messi's debut was at age 16.

sorry but "professionals"? you mean youngsters playing in division B of a club?

yeah the players from the Toros are also "professionals" like that

He's talking A teams... Messi had his professional Barcelona first-team debut at age 16. Although he became full part of the professional roster at age 17.

He actually played for division B Barca at age 15.

He's a rare case though. Most players become professional in the 18-20 year old range.

Messi is a phenom and probably most dangerous forward in history. But he still has a way to go to call him GOAT. He does not have the playmaking ability of the greatests including El Cebollita

I would agree that netting a WC would catapult him to the 'no-doubt' territory. Objectively, he plays against WC-quality compe ion year round. But les always count, that's just how it is.

I hate the GOAT argument. Soccer, just like basketball, changed over time. Pele was padding stats in Brazil and had tremendous teammates. Maradona played in an era where players would get kicked the living out of them.

I think they're all greats at their respective times.

well sorry to say Messi's performances in his national team have been anemic at best and it seems he rolls better in the Rolls Royce that is Barcelona. Until he shows he can take the cookie from jar like the greatest players have done, he is not even in the conversation. He has shown no balls and 7 out of 10 argentines will agree on that one.

yeah he's a great league player but that don't mean when you're talking GOAT

Last year Messi tied Argentina's NT recors for most goals in a calendar year (Batistuta), is on pace of breaking the all-time record for goals scored with the NT and 9 out of 10 Argies love Messi but go ahead and keep making up maybe something will stick.
