You can either study the last 30 years or Spurs history . . .

Or, if that seems too much, just repeat after me --

Ray Allen is exactly the type of player who will never, ever sign with the Spurs.

    Wouldn't mind it.

Would make Belinelli expendable. Spurs could package him w/Ayres to a team needing creator/scorer off bench (PHX, ATL, NO) for a protected 1st.

    Elie, Kersey, Horry...

Anyways, the man hits 3s like layups and the Spurs have plenty of minutes available in the backcourt due to certain injuries. Most of you were touching yourselves when Horry did what he did in the '05 playoffs anyways.

He's not coming here... How many threads like this will there be with FA targets? Pau Gasol had 40+ pages.... No one is coming to San Antonio. Allen will go to Cleveland or LA. Book it.

Sign him up. Then let him rot on the bench in a suit or in the D-League as revenge for what he did to us in 2013.

Ray Allen would fit right in. I don't think he'd want to play for Doc after 2012. Pop & Duncan would welcome Ray on board tbh.

Ray is just testing free agency to get a fair value for his services and Cleveland will match it.

    "We don't need any shooters"

Did you dumb s forget Mills is out for 3/4ths of the season? Joseph can't hit the ocean. Bonner is washed up, he's just a Spur because of Pop. Belinelli can't create his own shot and be efficient. Our only reliable shooter at this point is Green tbh.

" Allen he took a championship from us"

Ginobili took it away, Allen did what he does best... Shoot. If you gave Manu another chance to make it up, why not give one to the greatest shooter in NBA history. Quit getting tight.

    "Allen is done already"

He was the Heat's 2nd best player in the Finals last year. you mean he's done? Dip

Allen + Spurs system = god

If we can get him, we have to take the chance, even a Big and mobile combo forward is a much bigger need.

Not sure why anyone would want Allen at this point in his career, particularly the Spurs. Last season his stats dropped in almost every statistical category despite being on a team where defenses focused on Lebron/Bosh so he had open looks. Belinelli had better advance stats (PER, Offensive and Defensive Rating), is already under contract, and provides the same benefits (3pt shooting/shooter off of screens) and problems (poor defense) as Allen. At this point Allen is more of a liability of defense than his positive shooting would bring to the offense, especially since the spurs have more than enough shooters with Green, Manu (he'll take them regardless and pop has shown he will live with them whether they are falling or not), Kawhi, Beli, Bonner, and Daye. Not to mention Mills when he returns and Diaw when he is aggressive.

Agreed. Here's the problem: the fans on here want names, and could care at what cost. Ray Allen, although has some class, still is a ship-jumper and in my mind makes him a quitter.

Do I think he would be a decent locker room guy that wouldn't give us anything to worry about in the cry-baby era the NBA is in? yes.
Do I think that RAY ALLEN will put us over the top. probably not.

If the concept is get Ray Allen and that's our roster, then pass.
If the concept is get Ray, get Baynes, drop Ayers, then yes.

We all know just how clutch this guy is. I would have no problem with Ray busting 3's for us if there's mutual interest which is probably not the case but the only two i definitely never wanted on the Spurs is Fisher and Terry and thankfully one of them is retired.

Is Marcus Bryant really comparing '05 Horry to '14-15 Ray Allen?

Bowen does not approve even the thought of this happening. If Pop and RC dream about this, they better wake up and apologize to him, tbh.

If there is a report out about it, that probably means it's even less likely to happen.

At the season opener, Ray Allen looks on as the Spurs receive their rings and retire Bruce Bowen's jersey - again. Popovich cut Allen from the team moments later.

this is a situation i wouldn't hate. assuming we aren't able to maneuver deals though, Allen would be pointless on our roster at the moment

I'd be very nervous even if the Spurs were willing to trade Beli. That would pretty much force Anderson to contribute this season, as there's no way Manu and Allen will stay healthy all season. If Pop's already considering giving Leonard more minutes/responsibility and potentially increasing Green's minutes, then I think it could work out to have Allen and Anderson essentially competing for the fourth-wing minutes.

It'd have to be a trade for an impact (caliber of Martin, Chandler or Ilyasova) player for me to even consider, though.
