That's a fine distinction to make. The NFL and Ravens seem to have thought the video wouldn't be as damning, because they consider Rice to be a high-character guy who just made a mistake. The video makes it look like he was in full control of his actions. It showed a side of him that most folks had never seen before. Even though I personally believe Palmer is not a victim of DV in this case, I believe the way Rice behaved before, during and after the encounter was disturbing.

In all seriousness, I believe the NFL saw the video from the jump, and they knew they ed this one up royally. The video going public was just their break to go in and fix the original ruling.

In a post from her Instagram page Tuesday morning, and verified by the Baltimore Sun, Janay Rice writes, "I woke up this morning feeling like I had a horrible nightmare, feeling like I'm mourning the death of my closest friend. But to have to accept the fact that it's reality is a nightmare in itself."

Palmer telling it like it is, but no one wants to hear her. Woman's rights slip further away from reality, but their leaders high-five each other like they just won the lottery.

Supposedly, Palmer is a trained black belt in mixed martial arts. She was hardly defenseless. However, you'd think her training would have helped her avoid a simple punch.

I don't think hitting anyone outside of defending yourself (or you family) is really ever justified. But it's certainly understandable that a person can retaliate against someone attacking/berating them. The fact that Palmer is a woman makes no difference to the correctness of the situation, in my opinion.
Yes, people don't give credit to women for what they are capable of abuse wise. They think it's ok to act however they wanna act because at the end of the day, "a man never hits a woman".
Now punching a woman with all my strength and knocking her the out is not my style, but I'll certainly choke the out of a who crosses the line.
