chalk it up to the inevitable exceptions to every rule

People are going to expect so much from NVE and when he struggles at first, or whines about having to play so much D, gets in the doghouse, i garuntee you there will be some in here demanding for him to be traded..

Perhaps, but Van Exel falls into the Mario Elie, Danny Ferry, Jerome Kersey, Kevin Willis and Terry Porter type rugged veteran group. Those are the type of players that don't really get effected by the added pressure of being on a championship team.

Sometimes though, players come to the Spurs can't adjust to the pressure. I don't think NVE falls into that category.

It's a one year deal.... demanding to be traded?

    You are speaking too soon.

He's a veteran, most veterans know what to do...especially if they've been in alot of teams already.

    I disagree with you.

Personally i agree, but it just seems sometimes like some people get their hopes up way too high and with expectations high, the usual performance doesn't satisify.

So its official that he was signed for the 1 year minimum?

Since the season has ended, the Spurs have done their best to dump Beno. They offered him to teams in the draft in order to move up. They've offered him in other trade packages.

Something happened near the end of the playoffs that has led the Spurs to lose confidence in Beno. I'm not sure exactly what happened, but whatever it was must have been pretty major.
You are blowing smoke out of your @ss again, Timvp. Please provide sources, or do us a favor and put down the pipe.

The facts are: The Spurs realized that Barry and Manu were better bringing up the ball against the extreme pressure Detroit and few other teams in the NBA can provide. Because of this, Beno correctly sat on the pine.

Bringing in NVE is no more of an insult to Beno's status with the Spurs than the flirting with Kidd was to Tony. It is a business. And like Kidd was thought to be in 2003 over Tony, NVE is thought to be an upgrade for next year over Beno. However, the Spurs will signed Nick for only one year because the future always belongs to the young. I see the Spurs making the best move for the present ... and keeping youth and options for the future.

What are you questioning? That that the Spurs have tried to trade Beno this summer? That has been well do ented. On draft night they tried to trade him for Jarrett Jack. He was also named in a sign-and-trade for Antonio Daniels.

I don't know if they'll end up trading Beno, since NVE is only one year. I wouldn't trade him unless I could package him. But I know that they've been trying.

Kori, I have been around the NBA for long enough to know there is a great deal of smoke produced without much fire. Please don't try to act like everything you hear is true, pretending your sources always get it correct. We saw little clue to the signing of NVE, Spree was going to the Rockets, SAR to the Nets and Finley was a lock go to the Heat. If I bought into the BS spewed for weeks I would be as clueless as those who did. If Finley goes to the Heat, it is one our of four. If not, it is about as accurate as you and timvp are on Beno, in my humble view. Beno has great skills for the price the Spurs have him locked up at. That does not equate to the FO not talking if an offer is on the table. But they will not cut a solid player for nothing, and they will not give him away.

    Agreed!

Based upon how I veiw his skills, AND his contract I don't see it happening. But I will give you props if you get it correct.

I'm not acting like anything. You are being an asshole and attacking people for stating an opinion. They aren't my sources anyway. They've been do ented in several news outlets around the country.

We saw little clue to the signing of NVE
Except his agent saying last week it was between the Spurs and the Heat.

    SAR to the Nets
The only thing that stopped that was scar tissue.

Finley was a lock go to the Heat
No one close to Finley has said that.

But if I were a betting man, I'd bet that Beno will not be the team's backup point guard going into next season. It'll shock Spurs fans but I sense something happening.
