Some more thoughts:
Israel is officially an ally but their leader spends almost all his energy fighting our interests going as so far to buddy sex with opposition parties in congress.
Iran is officially an enemy but is partially bff with Kerry now. Death to America is basically a dog whistle for the hardliners. It has no real bite.
The notion that isreal has an awesome army is born out of some wars in the 1960's. All there great weapons aren't worth squat in gorilla warfare which is what Iran will fight with. Iran>isreal in the matter of local intelligence.
While isreal has fought a few draws with Hezbolah Iranian proxies have been more successful expanding their influence.
What does America need now? On the ground fighters to stabilize the area. Are suadi troops worth squat? Will isreal let us buy it's army for foreign?

We love Saudis for their oil and but kissing skills. Now we have our own oil.
WE love Isreal because of Nazi guilt and stable leadership. The ww2 gen is dieing and Bibi is not being stable or friendly.
I don't know when it'll happen, but within 5-15 years we will flip alliances. Everyone in the middle east is a pragmatist. No one has a principle.
It's way easier to fix Iran's economy that the Oil patronage of Saudi land. Saudi land is going to clip through dieing princes every five years or less. Iranian politics is an opaque s but a stable opaque s .
Saudi oppresses it's people 24/7. Iran jails and shoots a few as tokens but doesn't really stop them from modernizing.
It'll be sweet I'm sure for the CIA to pay back the saudis for their lazy backchannel support for AlQda and ISIS. It's probably the US's fault too, but the Saudis insisted on turning the wahhabist dial to 11.
