No. He was very clear. This was an instagram post by him, not his agent, media or an intermediary. He wanted to come over and play in the NBA, but Spurs reneged on an offer, or backpedaled at any rate.
If Simmons played in Europe he might have won DPoY too, tbh. And I'm sure he would shoot better than 32% from FIBA 3pt line.

That's a good point. The amount is small for a potential rotation wing. But I have only seen Spurs pick up potentials in minimum deals to prove themselves and Hanga is worth more than that at least in Europe. I am guessing he wouldn't take BPaul minimum deal and Spurs wouldn't offer him what he is worth. Why wouldn't the Spurs do that?
This is my speculation: at one point they considered possibilities of Manu retiring, Simmons leaving (even b4 the QO was pulled Simmons camp had told Jabari Young they wanted to test the market and Young estimated likelihood of him being reupped at 50/50. Knowing what we now know it's probably more likely that Simmons was going to be gone than not and Spurs knew it) Spurs were not going to overpay or reup him at a higher price. Spurs also tried to trade Danny. So, in their summer projections they had minutes to replace at the wings and a small budget. But then Danny couldn't be traded, Manu didn't retire and Simmons was gone but they signed Rudy Gay. I think they just weren't feeling the pressure anymore and wouldn't pay more than minimum contracts after that. They might have even be aware that like DeColo, Hanga wasn't going to be happy riding the pine if they had no real minutes for him so they would only bring him if they needed minutes pretty badly.
This is Google's official pic for Bourousis btb:
Has nothing to do with the Spurs (unfortunately), but I just happened to see it when spell-checking Ioannis' name.
Whether they generally start big or small, considering there are only 3 players capable of playing center (unless you count Costello), they couldn't afford to not prioritize durability and stamina. When Aldridge and Gasol get a rest game or are injured, they need a live body that can eat more than spot minutes.
Think Lauvergne over a more traditional center and Paul over Hanga indicate a philosophical shift, in that everyone must be at least somewhat of a triple threat offensively.
Pretty bad Photoshop![]()

Germany pulls of the upset against France. Just got hot from 3 at the right time but almost managed to choke the game away down the stretch.
Lauvergne did some damage offensively but did not play that many minutes due to his defense. Boris had a decent scoring game but looked absolutely done on the defensive end giving up easy drives all game long. Nando pulled a Batum by completely disappearing down the stretch. Fournier single-handedly carried them in the last quarter with 16 points.
Theis seems to be a decent player, reminds me of JaMychal Green.
Thanks for sharing Jyra. I watched the highlights and Diaw has reached elephant status.
Its too much for Franc to overcome the combination of bad defense and DeColo having a bad game.
Its too bad Lauvergne was such a defensive liability that France couldn't spare him more minutes. I don't expect much from him this season so he might surprise me. I prefer that version than getting hyped up and then disappointed...
I didn't know this but per FIBA, it's the first time in 20 years that France is going to miss quarterfinals.
If Lauvergne gets minutes slashed in Europe because of his defensive deficiencies, how will he ever be a third "big" for the Spurs? This truly is shaping up to be a horrific off-season for the Spurs. I have been holding my tongue and waiting to see the team on the court before rushing to judgment. I am not as eager for the start of the season as I am apprehensive.
Been calling it all off-season: The Spurs inside defense is going to give up tons of buckets this year. It's going to be a layup line.
Hungary gets eliminated by Serbia with Hanga only scoring 1 point. Not sure if he had some physical issues but he watched the whole 4th quarter from the bench.
I think it was just because the lineup they had in the 4th had brought them back into the game.
P/S: lol at the most recent Spur saviour scoring just 1 point in a do or die match.![]()
If only porker could get a medal. and I'm not talking about some regional tournament.![]()
Bertans making multiple stupid fouls down the stretch, gifting Slovenia 4 points in crunch time.![]()
Bertans played well, but Slovenia are better and were helped a bit with free throws, especially in the first half.
The essential Bertans performance, 23 points on 6/14 from 3 and only 1 rebound.
Come on bro, if you watched the game, Latvia played with 5 players and 3 refs. Porzingis could've fouled out in 1st half if the refs were correct. And so many doubtful decisions went in Latvia's favor especially in 2nd and 4th quarter. Gifted fouls, technicals, etc.
+ Almost killed Dragic with that nasty elbow. Not a foul, according to the refs.
I hope NBA scouts watched the game. Everyone will be tanking for Doncic next year.
If Doncic becomes a Spur this will be my avatar

Holy crap. Keep this bobblehead away from SAGirl
Doncic, the next Hezonja
