nobody was gonna max him. and if he wanted to play on a 1 year deal to earn one more massive contract, no better place than golden state
He won’t show he can carry any load in GS. Nobody will max him out off that.

I agree with your point, but I don't think they're going to suffer in the next 2-3 years, at all..I'd actually bet that it will be more popular with the casuals IMO..

LeBron on the Lakers will draw big and when they sign Kawhi next season, they'll have a narrative to push..and to elaborate on our conversation the other day, the NBA will probably switch to 1-16 seeding to force a Lakers-Warriors Finals

I think they'll take a hit when LeBron retires, though..
That's what I was implying. The NBA is not building "tradition" in smaller/losing markets, and Lebron and other stars bouncing around the league to ring chase, align themselves with their "business interests," or other reasons doesn't help facilitate that. On related point, there's a lot of consternation about the lack of MLB superstars on favorite athlete lists, and the reason for that is because fan favorites will be players on their hometown teams, so ten different MLB fans will likely pick 10 different players, while 10 NBA fans will pick Lebron, Curry. The MLB knew it was it better to exploit regional markets than just pimp the Yankees, since smaller markets are more stable because they're not as subject to the bandwagon effect (i.e. "I only watch the NBA when Lebron is on" vs. "I watch the MLB to watch my hometown team."). NFL did similar when they were growing.

I took that pill a while ago. MLB needs to jump on the chance to really stake their position over the NBA now. This will alienate NBA fans nationwide. I don't care how many social media mentions the league gets, they're setting up themselves up for a popularity decline. One key reason the NFL ascended over baseball back when, is because the MLB was very much like today's NBA, with the Yankees, et al talent hoarding. Parity was abysmal and leaguewide attendance was . The NFL designed the league where it felt like any team had a shot, "Any Given Sunday" and all that. But baseball does face a bit of a challenge being a slower sport and not highlight centric, which is why Manfred needs to ins ute that pitch clock ASAP next season. Get average game length around 2:30, encourage players to dance, bat flip, whatever. I'm really not favoring MLB over NBA, just that NBA needs to feel some pressure. Their arrogance is getting kind of NFL level.
I'd be down for MLF putting pressure on the NBA and I'd gladly help contribute to it. Get that pitch clock and I will tune in. I think a salary cap would be great too. You're right the league is getting arrogant. The people at the top, the superstars, all of them. them.

OMFG please install this . I used to love baseball when games were 2 1/2 hours long. With the current length I can't get into it unless I'm in the stadium, and that's not an option in San Antonio.
It's coming. 3-4 hour baseball games are not historically the norm. It used to be a "fast paced" sport relatively speaking. No constant running around, sure, but when pitchers would only take like 8-12 seconds to throw, the average 9 inning game with typical scoring would be over in less time than an average basketball game.

Unlikely basbeall takes over anything. Its a declining sport for a reason. Too Slow and it is not dymamic enough.

Fans in general fall in love with sports when unexpected things happen that never happens in baseball. Theres only one way to score in baseball.

NBA will take a huge hit after lebron though.

What i am wondering is how os Hockey declining even more as a sport. Its a decently designed sport but i reckon in 20 years NHL will be an afterthought.

MLS teams are inching closer to NHL level value. Like Toronto and Vancouver are 300 Million USD teams now. How much is an NHL team worth?

If anything I think the NFL will monopolize America.

Why am I going to spend the time following the local smaller market team when the good players will leave? The NBA had a solution to this that worked reasonably well, some of it contractual, some of it, well, tradition based. Joining the team that just punked your team out of the playoffs used to be thought of as a move.

The next time the local NBA team threatens to leave if it doesn't get a public subsidy for a new arena, well, bye.

It's a great move, but most people are just looking at Cousins's name and ignoring the severity of his injury, tbh..he isn't going to be anywhere near as good as he used to be..

The value of it is what is outrageous, can't do better for a 5th option on a team ..

The primary problem that has been lurking since Jordan captivated the basketball world (and the Magic vs. Bird rivalry before that) is when the NBA shifted from a more traditional "marketing around teams and rivalries" approach to centering the league around stars. The end result of the this strategy is people tuning out when said superstar retires from the league, leaves their team, etc. In baseball and football, high profile stars leaving/retiring really don't affect interest. Fans will essentially stick by their teams because stars don't move the needle as much in those sports (yeah, QBs in football, but you still need a line, defense, and great skill position players to complement a QB. Tom Brady leaving for the Bucs doesn't make them a playoff team. , we don't know how good he is away from Belichick, but it's obviously Lebron, Curry, etc can bring the same impact anywhere they play).

The star angle is perfect for social media drama though, so I don't see a change anytime soon. Social media relevance still drives up the league's perceived value. I think it's a bubble in the making, though.

Their concern is also going to take a backseat in the next few years because the teams involved are the Lakers and Warriors, it's not like it's the Pistons and Hawks the league is salivating over a LeBron/Kawhi Lakers duo..

Wes Matthews? He's nowhere near as good as he used to be, especially on defense..his first year back was a disaster..
