You hit on something, and I'm glad you did! According to population numbers for 2018, Houston is the 4th largest city in US. San Antonio is 7th, bigger than Dallas. And when someone says well when you take in the Fort Worth, we can say we'll there is Austin. This is why I bring this up, THE MEDIA treat San Antonio as a small market! Why? They treat Houston like a medium market! Why? The media don't see the businesses they can exploit to get those business' advertising dollars in San Antonio, yet. If the media deem they can or can't make a living in a market they deem it big or small. The media have firmly planted their flags in LA, NYC, Chicago. For an industry that considers itself national, it's the most regional thing there is. The reason I mentioned Seattle is there are nationwide businesses the media would be open to competing for their advertising budgets, there are media who were pissed when the Sonics were moved to OKC, and if you think the Spurs history or influence in this community will sway the media from promoting how a five time champion wouldn't be a wonderful addition to Pacific Northwest you got another thing coming. The media, ESPN, FOX, CBS, etc won't loose a wink of sleep over small market San Antonio loosing it's team.

It seems like Hakeem had a similar situation as Kawhi where he had a hamstring injury that kept him out and a bad relationship with management but the Rockets mended fences and were able to win 2 championships with him. Also interesting comparison Hakeem and Kawhi and Jordan only players to be All Star, Finals MVP, and DPOY. Also Hakeem eventually did end up playing for Raptors.

You finally got your wish in the Spurs trading Kawhi. Although Derozan is a much better return than Beal and Ariza
