Good news. It'll be interesting to see how much he gave back.

I'm sure the Spurs' opening offer was Gasol erasing his 2019-20 salary. But, honestly, even if he refused to give up anything, this still needed to be done. Poeltl shouldn't have to have one eye looking over his shoulder.

And thanks to Coach Bud again. He took Tiago Splitter's rotting carcass after it became obviously clear Splitter could never stay healthy. Looks like he provided Gasol a soft landing in order to convince him to agree to a buyout
Yes, and a legit chance for Gasol to ring with the Bucks. Hope the final buyout was actually waiting for a top East team to be interested as that might drive the buyout price down......

the sad part is the spurs didn't do this to make the team better... they did this because gasol wanted it this way.
That's the Spurs way. LMAO at anyone who thinks the Spurs did this to benefit themselves. PATFO only cares about making its players happy. Basketball isn't a business to the Spurs' brass, it's a family function filled with culture, loyalty and respect.

no details yet? I've a feeling Spurs still paid all but 2 or 3 million of what he was guaranteed, Pau makes out like a bandit.

    About damn time..Love it.

Gasol signing and subsequent loyalty extension is hands down the worst and most useless contract ever given by this front office..Just a simple question, does anyone of you have a single Pau moment? like seriously one good highlight of his tenure?

One of the most forgettable and empty passages by a star player (or formerly so) in Spurs history.
    This.

Sucks that it didn't work out. He may still be here if the whole Kawhi thing didn't rot last year.

Milwaukee has a symphony so he'll be fine.

Nah. I don't mind having one. Part of me says keep Bryn since he is cheap (and I hope he could be a good 3-pt specialist/sparkplug if he were confined to that role for about 10-15 mins/game). I just don't want both midgets back.
I really hate the "he's cheap" justification for this scrub. You get what you pay for. He's a ing bum. Get rid of him when everyone is healthy and they make adjustments in personnel in the offseason. We can upgrade from him.

I can bring to memory a period of time when he was hitting 3's and spreading the floor but that seems like an eternity ago and also it was in the midst of meaningless regular season games.

But the prevailing memory of Gasol in the silver&black for me is him trying to get a shot off in the post surrounded by younger, athletic forwards and after getting blocked or missing a bunny him screaming "Aaaaaaaaah" and his scream echoing in the AT&T.

    That's what i'll remember.Gasol screaming.

My point is that I cannot see Pop dumping both at once. Consequently, I might prefer Bryn to Patty simply because of the price tag.

He won't dump either because it would be a shot to his ego. He built these players up and he isn't about to tear them down.

Who was the last Spurs player that wanted to get bought out so he could sign with a contender? That's a serious role reversal for the Spurs. We are usually a destination for those guys.

the one thing i can never figure out about ST is that being so many of the posters have such insight into what happened behind the scenes after a transaction takes place, why can't they ever be so insightful before these things happen?

Certainly, that's the most likely scenario.

Meh, his trade value was overstated. A buyout is much better than having to trade Gasol and a first rounder to dump his salary, tbh.
Came here to post this. Its obvious they tried showcasing him before the deadline which may have done more harm than good to his value. I'm very happy they didn't sell a first rounder to save money.

Suppose Gasol had rejected that opening offer. Would that mean his salary still takes up cap space for next year?

Showcasing him definitely did more harm than good to the Spurs.

It's simple getting Jacob in the Kawhi trade ruined Pau's minutes. He wasn't a happy camper.

Good luck with the Bucks Pau.
