There was plenty of time to foul. Did LMA just decide not to listen to Pop and everybody else?
I am not sure how much fouling would have changed the outcome. It was a two possesion game already so you definitely want to try to get a turnover/steal before fouling. Yet I think everyone would agree letting them run out the clock makes no sense to have any chance of winning.

Patty was the one closest to a man. It was on him to foul. Also, the wombat is the team leader, appointed so by Pop.
LMA was a long way from his man. But Patty was right there.
I don’t want to sound overly dramatic, but to me, that last play was basically what happens when players just tune out.
We’ve seen it in a lot of teams over the years, even laughed about it, and it didn’t happen to us before because we always had relatively smart players. That’s just gone now, and it’s opens larger questions: players go? coaching staff goes? is management paying attention?
damn Lamarcus Aldridge really isn't gonna wanna read the comments on his Instagram right now
people are flat out calling him dumb and stupid
I wish Pop had an IG
Aldridge didn't want to foul to get a chance to play against his buddy Lillard. Just trade his ass to Portland for a bag of chips and that's it.
They have a hand signal: that kind of "cut" with he open hand palm down.
In fact, usual standard practice in the NBA is go for the soft steal, then hard steal, then foul if nothing happens. It all takes about 8-10 seconds.
But yes, the game was already lost mentally.
Pop should have ran out onto the court even farther and gotten a technical just to stop play, after they ignored him.
[QUOTE=FkLA;9791460]Yeah, he really did a lot those last 16 straight minutes he played. Let's go through all the great things he did:
You’re right in thinking Mills sucks but White was terrible and showed his inexperience. I mean the misses a shot and he’s over there having conversations with himself. Definitely too big a moment for him at this time.
Still we overachieved but could have won this series a d the next. Our big 2 really let us down. Especially DDR.
spurs lost a very winnable game
I disagree. This a problem of players to caught up in the moment to think correctly!!!
The damn problem was there was no timeout after Murray hit his shot. DeRozan forced a plays and got blocked. The players had no instructions on what next to do.
Normally this lack of timeout was an advantage for Spurs who has a lot of playoff experiemce. Unfortunately, this team does not have Manu, Parker, Green and Kawhi. So there was nobody on the floor good make a good decision to foul.
A timeout should have been called and a play for a quick two or 3 pt shot should have been made with a quick foul after.
Yet, what does DeRozan do? Get blocked... yet when he rebounds, he doesn't call a timeout!!
No need to do that . . .
Yep, no matter how loud the crowd, it makes no difference.
You simply take your right wrist and hack down on your left wrist with it.
It's the universal basketball gesture for "foul now" . . .
This is why I didn't like everyone in the media favoring the Spurs for their "experience." Experience is overrated. The rules don't magically change in game 7. The better (more consistent) team will win even if they have less experience, and even the most experienced team can up something basic.
Regarding the last play - you can foul off the ball, right? It's not like you can only foul the ball handler. So ANY Spur could have fouled any Nugget. Just grab the guy nearest to you.
It's free throw and possession for them if you foul off the ball in the last one or two minutes? Think it was the wilt rule where he would run out of bounds to avoid getting fouled off the ball and it looked stupid.
Ah ok, forgot about that.
My thoughts exactly I officiate youth and high school games and even they would have fouled then. Absurd and unprofessional and it is on players and coaches.
WTF is up with the disparate treatment from Pop and his Pop suckers though?
LMA and DD shrunk this game too but they kept playing. Rudy didn't wake up until Game 6 but he kept getting consistent minutes all series. Belli was beyond awful all series yet still saw plenty of action. Wombat shot 20% from the field, 10% from 3 all series long and not only saw consistent minutes but yet for whatever reason had his number called to close at PG in both elimination games.
OTOH White is struggling, and it's like yeah let's just bench him the last 21 minutes of the game. Who cares if he's been the third best player on the team all year long. Let's not show any faith in him, let's not give him a shot to redeem himself or see what he's made of. Yep, it's undoubtedly the right call to not play him no questions asked.
On a night when no one could shoot, Bertans was seen throwing paper wads in a trash can at about 8 feet. He made 20 out of 20.
I agree the micormanaging was a problem. That and a free reign for Aldridge and DeRozan to create offense. These are the two worse players to execute anything on the team.
He's another guy that always gets the quick leash. Yeah, he was struggling with Millsap and he wasn't hitting much but how is that any different than what Rudy did for the first 5 games or what Wombat+Belli did all series?
I don't see how any other conclusion can be made other than LMA quitting. Both his actions and his words are pretty damning. He didn't want to go to the next round. He was ready to be on the beach.
DeRozan and Aldridge have played so many games in the NBA that they don't know the difference between a good play and a bad one!
Bad habits are hard to get rid off.
These two are pathetic for the same and different reasons. Both players don't know how to take advantage of a double team. Both players play piss poor defense. Both players have tunnel vision when they have the ball. The only bright side of DeRozan is he works hard in offense. I can't say the same for Aldridge.
I think this is deeper than just not fouling. What it basically showed is that none of these players are thinking for themselves. They're terrified of making mistakes and I just don't know how you can play basketball that way. I mean really, does Pop have to let them know how and when they can wipe their ass?
We have seen it all year that team has terrible in the last two minutes to not being able to pass out of half court or just turning ball over. Pop should have called a time out to let people know what to do this team really does not have a leader
