i love Tre Jones, doesnt do anything special but just solid
is it safe to say that Derrick White is back?
good win
Don't even mention Giannis... He was drafted at 15... Lower than Primo... Pop would have had that boy in the g league for years

I wish DWhite stays healthy....... This bunch experiencing playoffs even if it's a 1st round exit will be a tremendous boost to their confidence
They rushed those years because the rumours is that zion walks. But since his health issues of walking seems real, he'll probably won't walk cause he can't walk the walk 🤔
Soo how murray&walker working out?![]()
Dejounte's inability to get to the foul line is starting to scare me
playing
Walker and Murray are playing great. If they were on my fantasy basketball team, I'd be very happy. The problem is that even though they are playing great individually, we are still on a trajectory for a late lottery pick. Not a legit chance of making the playoffs and certainly not competing in the playoffs on the off chance that we were lucky enough to win a playin.
And yes, there are great players and superstars picked in the mid first round and even in the late second round. Yes, I'm familiar that Manu was picked with the last pick in the draft. But when it comes to the best odds, however low they may be, the best odds of the Spurs getting a franchise player that can take them back into contention is to draft as early as possible and to develop the talent. The Spurs have a solid record of developing talent, it's just that most of the talent they get is late round talent. Let them have a top talent in the draft and see what they can do with it.
Great win! I was lucky enough to score some last min seats.
I'm not in the running as one of the great basketball minds of this forum, but, here are some things I saw that jumped out that I couldn't get from a tv broadcast:
- This looks and feels like a basketball team. Chemistry, camaraderie and a desire to learn were obvious, except in one player (more later on him)
- DJ seemed off and had a triple double. He's turning into the TD of point guards. He deferred to DW and that was a great move. His chemistry with Poetl is phenomenal in PnRs and give-and-gos.
- DW may be righting the ship. He was so crafty and was carving up the Pels all night. It's a very different team with DW playing well.
- Poetl was almost everything you'd want at center. Great focus, hustle, awareness, scoring, rebounding and defense. My friend mentioned his free throw form looked pretty wonky. Ugly at the line, but, pretty beautiful everywhere else.
- Gregg Popovich was really coaching. He got fired up a couple of times that would've made his Serbian ancestors proud. He also showed a lot of care and had many teaching moments with individual players throughout the game. The team as a whole really responds to Pop and wants to improve.
- I was asking myself, 'Why is Jock Landale not playing?' He came in in garbage time and looked out of sorts before the ball was even in play. Within 10 seconds Brandon Ingraham blew by him from the left wing with a pretty basic move and posterized the boy. He doesn't quite fit with this squad from a limited eye-test.
- Tre Jones may stick in this league for awhile. He really is a true point guard and is learning his role and steadies the team. Pop used him very well, I thought.
- Overall, I thought it was a super fun team to watch. Lots of Sop ric blunders, but, more than made up for by heart, hustle and chemistry. I loved the way Pop stuck with Vassell in the teeth of the game and he was guarding Ingraham, the only scoring threat on NO. No one seemed to get pulled for a mistake too quickly. Also, this was a win without the services of NBA champion Bryn Forbes.
thanks for the insight!
I'm loving Tre Jones as well. I love that he is great at making layups as simple as it sounds. He uses the correct angles and uses his body very well for finishing at the rim. Reminds me of Parker in that one aspect.
First DNP for Bryn on the season, didn't even get a second when the game was out of reach. hmm
someone posted in another thread that there's rumors that a team is interested in Forbes.
perhaps Pop saving Forbes for the trade? one can only hope
His overall inability to score efficiently is holding him back from being a real all-star level player
Tre will be a solid back up PG for any NBA Team, he really should be getting more burn.
We Spurstalkers should start a money pool and Pay that team to take him.![]()
Yes. Another top game by DWhite. On offense was just silky smoothe on setting up or scoring. On defense was real active on rebounding and disrupting with 4 steals. Spurs couldn't get any separation till the 4th got going. DWhite was a big reason on how.
Another point that I forgot to make was that DJ's handles were much more under control.
He kept the ball around waist-high when dribbling most of the time. Much better looking form.
sux that spurs has too many guards. tre reminds me of a washed up tj ford when he played with the team
There’s no such thing as “too many guards” when half of them are inconsistent or below average. How minutes are allocated among them is another topic. This team could have 10 Lonnie Walkers and I would say we still need another guard because we need more talent than Lonnie Walker. Now if Lonnie starts playing consistent, then that’s a different story.
A 5-page game thread has to be a record for DGAF around here.
Game Threads were always pretty lame in November December anyways, but yeah...kinda sad.
That said, I can't say I go out of my way to watch the games like I used to. Life gets busy this time of year, and I'll try to catch it the next day or whatever if I can, but definitely not as locked in as I was when we were winning 50-60 games a year.
To all the people clamoring for a tank, this is what happens....people just stop caring when your team sucks.
Same man, I find myself watching the game well after it started or the next day. I am a tank commander now but I still love the silver and black.
Really tough with young kids to catch them in real time, and like you said around the holidays too.
Just fed up with the purgatory the team finds itself in and there aren't any signs it's gonna end soon. We either need to suck or show signs we can be more than a hopeful playoff team. Those ain't Spurs level expectations.
This year i find myself way more engaged than the previous 3 years. I really enjoy watching this team and seeing them accomplish what they have accomplished so far, which isn't much, but with expectations so low, anything positive is great.
The previous 3 years were brutal though. That had me losing interest by the day.
Now i'm back to watching like I used during the big 3 era. But i never post much during the game unless a big play happens. So my actually involvement in game threads was no never an indication of watching the game or not.
As always i watch at least one quarter of every game but good lord do we suckkkk![]()
This season has actually been a breath of fresh air, tbh...if only for the fact that we have no expectations.
With DeRozan/Aldridge, the team SHOULD have been better than it was, so it was frustrating to see them not playing up to their level (especially coming off of the excellence of Tim/Tony/Manu/Kawhi).
Now...I'm not ever surprised if we lose, and feel good for our young players when we win. These guys are still out their busting their butts, they don't deserve to live through a 15-win season or whatever even if that would give us better draft odds.
Either way, I can turn on the game, not really care what happens, and go to bed easy with the result. But like I said, I'm also not as inclined to be there right at tip-off every other day.
