San Antonio 110, Orlando 85
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- Tim Duncan had 26 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks, Tony Parker added 20 points, and the San Antonio Spurs beat the Orlando Magic 110-85 Monday night.
Duncan and Rasho Nesterovic frustrated Orlando's Dwight Howard, who had a double-double by halftime but shot just 4-of-18 from the field. He finished with 13 points and 15 rebounds.
Jameer Nelson scored 20 points and DeShawn Stevenson had 15 points and seven rebounds for Orlando.
It was the fourth straight win for the Spurs and fourth consecutive loss for the Magic.
Robert Horry scored 18 points, leading a bench that is a strength of the reigning champions. The Spurs' reserves outscored the Magic's 45-21.
San Antonio ended the third quarter with an 11-5 run to take a 77-61 lead, including a 3-pointer by Horry and a fadeaway jumper that extended the advantage to 14 with 1:06 left.
But Orlando refused to fade, opening the fourth with consecutive 3-pointers from Travis Diener and Pat Garrity to draw to 77-67.
Duncan took control after that, scoring 10 of San Antonio's 33 fourth-quarter points, including a 3-point play on a nasty spin move on Howard that increased the lead to 14 with 7:09 left in the fourth.
Orlando never got closer than seven points in the final period, and made just three field goals in the game's last 9:53.
The Magic also struggled early, missing their first eight shots and going 4:46 without a field goal in the first quarter.
But Stevenson helped make up the gap with two jumpers, a midcourt steal and a dunk on three consecutive possessions that tied the game at 43. Nelson's 3-pointer the next trip gave Orlando the advantage, but Horry answered with his own 3-pointer off an inbounds pass with 1.7 seconds left to tie it at 46 at halftime.
Howard had 10 points and 10 rebounds at the break, but seemed at times overwhelmed by the Spurs' physical frontcourt. He missed layups, had shots blocked and lost control of the ball underneath several times.
San Antonio's Manu Ginobili returned from a two-game absence with a bruised right ankle, but wasn't a factor offensively. He finished with four points and four assists.
Game notes
San Antonio shot just 25-of-36 from the free throw line. ... Steve Francis (bruised chest) missed his third straight game. ... The Spurs haven't lost a game this season when shooting 45 percent or better. They hit 55 percent, compared with 46 percent for Orlando. ... Hedo Turkoglu returned from a one-game absence (virus), finishing with 11 points.
Thanks, ya'll. I can't do this all the time but I'll pitch in when not working, or busy or at the game.
