Exactly. I was going to mention this in my post, but I didn’t. Simping for people who don’t care about you is idiotic. They did spend time and money once upon a time but that was forever ago. All that good will should be gone. They’ve moved on and soon people here will too.
Worst case scenario is that this site goes down, we regroup in that subreddit and get a new forum going.
There are even free options out there like phpBB. I'm a member of another forum using it and it has all the needed features.
    https://www.phpbb.com/

I don't think we need anything more than this, none of that modern nonsense that would attract a lot of sniffers.

tbh, people in here are literally volunteering to pay for this , but we can't even get the owners of this site to engage in a discussion about it.
It's their site to run as they see fit. I'm not trying to speak for them, but I can fairly say they've always tried to make it free and accessible to anybody without asking for anything. They tried ads for a while, but took those down because they were obtrusive and unpredictable.

If you think you can do a better job, nobody is stopping you.

They’re cool videos and I’m sure she means well. But all those videos sure make downloading the website slower. A sure fix would be is to provide a good description then just create links.

I’m about this close to gathering core people (this forum’s most popular names) to build something new for us. I’ve got the tech skills, other people can contribute in other ways

There's no way people move off spurstalk as long as the site is running, even in it's current, dysfunctional state.
But we need a contingency plan in case it collapses.

Its not about thinking we can do better. Everyone knows we can do better and a lot of us are willing to help offset or cover the cost. There is no good reason for ownership to not at least have a discussion about improving things here. We would all rather make this place better than migrate.

This. It isn’t about thinking we can do better.

A lot of us have been here since the beginning, moving over together from SR and have over 20 years invested in this community. We don’t want to “do better” somewhere else… we want to to be here, but we want it to work reliably and hopefully with software that’s not outdated by a decade or more.

We aren’t even asking for anything, other than the ability to help contribute to the operating costs of this site.

That would be the opportunity to do something incredibly funny and reignite the SR domain. That site is a cautionary tale. So good (relatively) 1999-2004 and then gradually fell off

The thing that honestly triggers me the most is that timvp is completely unresponsive.
He's obviously visiting the site when he puts up post-game grades, is it so much beneat him to just acknowledge us and say he can't do anything about the issues if he's got no power over it?
Spurs are on a upwards trajectory and this place will get a lot more traffic pretty soon if it stays alive, it would just be a shame to throw away 20+ years of history just like that.

Maybe they just aren’t interested in the hassle, but now would be the ideal time to invest in this site and expand the content offering for this very reason. There is such a dearth of quality Spurs content out there that bull AI sites like AirAlamo generate tons of traffic and have probably successfully monetized that site. The Spurs Podcast landscape is a complete ing joke, but even the ones that do exist have successfully monetized those with ads (they may not be very lucrative at this point, because all the Podcasts are ing terrible, but they do at least have sponsors paying to ads).

I think there is absolutely a market for high quality written content, beyond just game grades, supplemented by a high quality podcasts and YT videos. Find some up and coming content creators willing to do it to make a name for themselves and get paid contingent upon the site’s success and profitability metrics. Spurs fans eat content up - just check out the comment sections of national content creators when they mention the Spurs… fans flock to that . Spurs fans just don’t have a go to place for high quality content. The forum is just an offshoot of that.

But, I respect LJ and Kori if they just don’t want to deal with it. Maybe they actually view the forum as a detriment to achieving this. The political forum, the sexism, racism, phobia, etc. certainly don’t help and maybe the “unfiltered” nature of the forum is something they value and don’t want to bother cleaning up. Or maybe they’re actively working on selling the site and can’t say anything and are just keeping things afloat minimally until it can close (although it’s not like these issues just recently popped up).

This all just speculation… but some of the discussions on this forum are the highest quality Spurs related content around… and I hate to lose it. Even if we find a new home, be it a subreddit a discord or some new site… not everyone will move over and this tribe will have been effectively disbanded permanently.

Dejounte - if you do go down the route of creating a new home, you have to do what Kori and LJ did 20+ years ago when we all moved over here, and personally recruit everyone to move over. Dusty’s tyrannical ways were driving us away and those two created SpursTalk and reached out directly with invites for us to come over here. Eventually more and more people followed after a critical mass had migrated. It got to the point where Dusty created text filters and it blocked out SpursTalk, Kori, timvp, etc from even being mentioned on SR.

I hope our community can live on. I’ve been interacting with a lot of you crusty ers since I was in my teens. Now I’m in my mid-40s, with a family and living thousands of miles anway… but as lame as it sounds, I would miss you sons of es.

timvp Kori Ellis - hear our cries… at least let us forum dwellers pitch in to maintain this site and help any way we can.

Personally I'd nuke the sub forums outside of the spurs/nba to free up bandwidth. A lot of posters in those subs dont post in the spurs/nba which would help eliminate the mul ude of traffic going to those subs.

It's just a suggestion and it wouldn't solve all the issues of downtime.

I really like the functionality of a Forum as opposed to Discord or Reddit. I like a single thread I can follow. Discord chat tends to move too fast for me to want to scroll up and read everything I missed. This is coming from someone who uses Discord every day and in a dozen servers. I also a not a ran of Reddit moving threads and comments up and down depending on votes. And then it hides comments when there's too much activity.

I've been in a lot of Forums over my years... but as an Aggie from San Antonio, I'm mostly on Spurstalk and Texags.

My guy/gal cutewizard catching strays here. I don’t know if they are a guy/gal but I love their enthusiasm. I just imagine that they’re in some kind of remote Filipino village that only gets the internet turned on for an hour a day and that’s when cutewizard just goes ham on Spurs videos In reality, he/she is probably living in some Manila penthouse and owns the world’s preeminent collection of high end Spurs memorabilia or some . I bet cutewizard kills at karaoke though.

The thing about moving off is to migrate all the history with it as well. Face it, spurs talk isn’t just a bunch of us lunatics mouthing off at each other, it’s the history and memories of all that mouthing off.

I mean, will spurstalk really be spurstalk without the Naruto, white pants, ms paint threads? Will it even be spurstalk without @Rappin’ Shaq and a whole bunch of those other usernames?

This place has had many peak moments throughout the years but still think it was at its best though when we all collectively hated on the Lakers during the Kobe years ( the Lakers BTW) so I do hope it continues on.

Anyone remember or know what im talking about the fun glitch that would happen when misspelling Sean Elliott's name? Good times
