Conference winner is no guarantee that they'll go anywhere, Spurs know this first hand. It's who get's on a roll GOING into the playoffs as well as staying healthy. The Spurs haven't even played well all season and they are at the top of the conference while the Mavs are playing their best ball causing every Mavs fan to ooze out of hiding.

Only teams I'm concerned about are the Pistons and the Suns .. the Suns with Amare.

Why is everyone so afraid of the suns? Amare will not be the same as he was last year. Nobody recovers that quickly. The mavs can play even better. This is not a fluke. They have the deepest team in the league and fatigue will not be an issue. I could see them winning 65 games the way they are playing now. The spurs better do the same so they can get homecourt.

Mavs, Suns same thing. I agree Suns w/out Amare won't advance in playoffs, even if he comes back late it will take him time. But on the other hand Mavs are the same perennial playoffs losers, that won't change either. I even think Suns w/out amare can beat the soft Mavs.No worries.

Well the soft mavs have held 10 consecutive teams under 100 points as well as winning a game in Memphis on the second day on a back to back in a defensive battle 81-80. Nothing to worry about huh?

I'll admit the Mavs are improved slightly, but the playoffs is a whole different animal. Go far in the playoffs and then people will take notice. Listen to Avery's words of wisdom "you haven't arrived yet" the man knows what he's talking about, after all he was a SPUR!

Well the Grizzlies are a damn good team this year. Much better than last year. Yeah I'm sure spurs did it 22 times but they don't have the offense that the mavs have along with the defense. The spurs struggle scoring and eventually a team will have an offense that the spurs can't shut down. Possibly the mavs.

I think we should forget about the Mavs pitiful playoff history. The reason?

    Mavs-Don Nelson+Avery Johson=Different Team.

For the first time in their history, they play DEFENSE first. A tribute to Popovich's protege' - Avery Johnson. It appears they have finally bought into the "gospel according to A.J."

They've become pretty good in pressuring the ball consistently, defending pick and rolls, blocking shots and closing out teams - even on the road. They will be formidiable playoff opponents, unlike years past. No doubt about it. They've definitely closed the gap between themselves and the Spurs. It's gonna be a fight for the top spot in the Western Conference.

While I do have a healthy respect for the Mavs and how they play, make no mistake about it - the Spurs will still "spank their asses" in the playoffs.

You obviously like to talk smack without backing it up. I prefer people that have good reasons why the spurs will beat the mavs instead of just talking .

what's there to say. no matter what anybody lays on the table, you seem to pull something out of your ass to make the mavs look like the better team. it's quite hilarious. i won't talk . second round is when it'll go down. your team better earn the respect and not demand it. "and somebody said. FAIR WARNING. Lord, strike that poor boy down."

What's the point of talking sh*t?

    This thread is old...

I don't see the point in it, specially when it has come down to namecalling.

Mavs playing great is perfect for the Spurs - keeps them sharp and remember both Spurs games againist the Mavs at home rest of way.

7 game series = no worries - Mavs fold again period.

If I were a spurs fan I would start to worry. The mavs don't seem to lose anymore. Dallas is bringing the defense. I think the spurs just hope the mavs fold but it's not going to happen. Mavs in 7 against the spurs.

It doesn't mean they won't. There's a difference, you know.

And Dallas is not going to beat the Spurs if it stretches to 7 games.

"Mavs don't seem to lose anymore" L

Last time I looked teams have the same records, Spurs also winning a lot lately 11/12 and six in a row.

This is has been despite the Spurs having their second best player, Manu out much of the year and part of this stretch, and Tim with a condition that has bothered him.

Mavs also had their two home games versus the Spurs already. With Manu back and Tim getting his new treatments you have not seen the best of the Spurs yet.

Fear the defending champs not some upstart team that still when all is said and done is dALLAS.

11-game winning streak? Didn't the Mavs have a season when they didn't win 11 games?

The spurs don't have that superstar at shooting guard that gives Dallas problems. Maybe they should go after Kobe Bryant or Tracy Mcgrady. These are the players that give Dallas the most trouble. Diop and Dampier will slow down Duncan and Griffin will slow down Ginobili.
