Paulino 1 for 6 from 3 until he hit the game winning 3
I am from WV so I was pulling for WV last night, but I just wanted to say CONGRADS on your win last night. It was a good game and the better team came out on top. I thought my boy Gansey played good, I thought Pittsnoggle played good, except when he stepped in below the three point line. I was thinking last night, Pittsnoggle would be a good fit for the Suns because he likes to jack up threes and plays no defense.
Should be a good game between LSU and TX.
GO TX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yeah he's a coaches son, a real high bball IQI thought my boy Gansey played good

Texas in the Big Dance
This marks the eighth straight and 24th overall appearance by the Longhorns in the NCAA Tournament. With its win on Thursday night, Texas improved to 28-26 (.519) all-time in the Big Dance.
One Win Away from Indy
With a victory on Saturday, the Longhorns would advance to the Final Four for the fourth time in school history and the second time in the past four seasons. The Horns previously advanced to the Final Four in 1943, 1947 and 2003. Texas is 1-0 in regional finals under coach Rick Barnes. UT topped Michigan State 85-76 in 2003.
Horns in the "Elite Eight"
Texas has advanced to the Round of Eight for the sixth time in school history. The Horns technically made "Elite Eight" trips in 1939, 1943 and 1947, when the NCAA used an eight-team national tournament. Following the expansion of the tourney field to 64 teams in 1985, Texas also made "Elite Eight" appearances in 1990 and 2003. The Longhorns are 3-2 in their previous five "Elite Eight" trips.
Series vs. LSU
Saturday's contest marks the 29th meeting between the two schools and the first matchup since the 2000 NCAA Second Round. In the last meeting, the Tigers posted a 72-67 win in Salt Lake City. The series dates back to Feb. 13, 1911, when LSU registered a 40-15 victory in Baton Rouge. UT holds an all-time mark of 108-134 against current members of the SEC.
Success Against the Top 25
During his eight seasons in Austin, Rick Barnes has registered a school-record 36 career victories against AP Top 25 opponents (previous mark: 10 by Tom Penders, 1989-98). Barnes has guided the Horns to a 36-38 (.486) record against ranked teams. Texas is 7-3 against AP Top 25 opponents this season with wins against No. 3 Villanova, No. 4 Memphis, No. 13 West Virginia, No. 16 Kansas, No. 18 Iowa, No. 19 Oklahoma and No. 22 West Virginia. In his 19 years of coaching, Barnes has posted 65 victories against AP Top 25 opponents.
Horns Near School Record for Ranked Wins
Texas enters Saturday's contest with a 7-3 mark against AP Top 25 opponents this year. With a win against #19 LSU on Saturday, the Longhorns would tie the school record for most wins against AP ranked opponents in a season. Texas went 8-5 against AP ranked foes during the 2003-04 season.
Texas Adds to Single-Season Win Mark
With its win on Thursday, Texas continued to add to its school record for most victories in a season. The previous mark of 26 wins was accomplished four times in UT history, most recently during the Horns' run to the Final Four in 2002-03.
West Virginia Game Notes
· Texas set a school record for most games played in a season with 36 (previous: 35 in 1991-92).
· The Longhorns improved to 27-2 this season when outrebounding their opponent. UT registered a 45-16 advantage on the glass. The Horns have posted at least a +10 rebound margin in 22 of their 36 games.
· The +29 rebound margin tied for the ninth-best in NCAA Tournament history. It was the highest margin since a +33 effort (56-23) by Kansas against Syracuse in 2001. The +29 margin also is tied for the second-best performance in a "Sweet 16" contest.
· P.J. Tucker recorded his second straight and 15th double-double of the season with 15 points and 14 rebounds. It marked his fifth double-double in six postseason games this year. Tucker also became just the eighth player in UT history to reach the 700-rebound plateau (now has 701).
· LaMarcus Aldridge registered his 16th double-double of the year with 26 points (11-of-15 FG) and 13 rebounds. The 26 points marked his career high, while his 11 field goals made tied his career high. The 11 field goals made also tied a UT record for most field goals made in a NCAA Tournament game (11 by Albert Burditt vs. Western Kentucky on March 17, 1994).
· A.J. Abrams posted seven assists against just two turnovers in 29 minutes. The seven assists were one shy of his career high (8, twice).
· Mike Williams tallied nine points (4-of-4 FG) and seven boards in 20 minutes off the bench. It marked his highest point total since Williams had 10 points against UT-Pan American on Nov. 29 (span of 25 games played).
UT Among NCAA Stat Leaders
Texas leads the nation in scoring margin (+15.9) and rebound margin (+10.3), according to the NCAA's latest statistical update (through games of March 20). UT also ranks fourth in field goal percentage defense (.381) and tied for eighth in won-lost percentage (.829).
Defense Wins
Solid defense continues to be a Texas trademark under coach Rick Barnes. The Longhorns have limited their first 36 opponents to 60.0 points per contest and a 38.3 FG percentage mark. UT has held 23 of its first 36 opponents below 40% FG shooting this year (22-1 record in those games). Since Barnes arrived in Austin, the Horns have held 132 of their 266 opponents to under 40% FG shooting. Texas sports a 118-14 (.894) mark in the Barnes era when accomplishing the feat.
Cleaning the Glass
UT has outrebounded 29 of its first 36 opponents and sports a +10.9 rebound margin (40.4-29.5) on the year. The Longhorns are 27-2 this season when outrebounding their opponent. Texas has posted at least a +10 rebound margin in 22 of its 36 contests.
Dominating the Boards in the Tourney
UT has been ever better on the boards during the NCAA Tournament. Texas recorded a 42-21 edge on the glass in its First Round win against Penn. The Horns then posted a 38-28 advantage on the boards in the Second Round victory against North Carolina State. During Thursday's win against West Virginia, the Longhorns posted a 45-16 margin on the glass, including a 17-3 edge on the offensive glass. In UT's three NCAA Tournament games, the Horns have registered a +20.0 rebound margin (41.7-21.7).
Solid at the Stripe
Texas is having one of its best seasons at the free throw line in recent history. UT has converted 72.7% (538-of-740) of its free throws this year. This marks the highest team season free throw percentage since the 1981-82 squad hit 72.7% from the stripe. UT has been even more successful from the line in the NCAA Tournament, converting 51-of-65 (.785) free throws.
Aldridge Leads by Example
LaMarcus Aldridge has been quite impressive during his sop re season. Aldridge leads the team in blocks (68) and field goal percentage (.585) and ranks second on the squad in scoring (15.3 ppg) and rebounding (9.1 rpg). He has led the team or tied for the team lead in scoring in 15 contests and also has led the squad or tied for the team lead in rebounding in 15 games.
Aldridge Sees Double
LaMarcus Aldridge has become a double-double machine for the Longhorns. Aldridge has recorded 16 double-doubles this year, tops in the Big 12 Conference. He posted his 16th double-double of the year with his 26-point, 13-rebound effort on Thursday against West Virginia.
Aldridge Impressive in Tourney
After missing the last half of his freshman year with a hip injury, LaMarcus Aldridge has been solid in his first postseason appearance. In three NCAA Tournament contests, Aldridge is averaging 18.3 ppg and 10.3 rpg while converting 20-of-37 (.541) field goals. Aldridge posted 19 points and 10 boards in the NCAA First Round against Penn and then added 10 points and eight boards in the Second Round against North Carolina State. He tallied a career-high 26 points and 13 rebounds in Thursday's win against West Virginia.
Tucker Turns it Up in Postseason
P.J. Tucker has upped his level of play in the postseason. Tucker has posted five double-doubles in six postseason contests. He had 10 points and 13 boards against Texas Tech in the Big 12 quarterfinals and added 26 points and 13 rebounds against Texas A&M in the Big 12 semifinals. Tucker then tallied 17 points and 12 boards in the NCAA First Round against Penn and added 17 points and 11 rebounds in the NCAA Second Round against N.C. State. During Thursday's win against West Virginia, Tucker recorded 15 points and 14 rebounds. In UT's three NCAA tourney contests, Tucker is averaging 16.3 ppg and 12.3 rpg while converting 18-of-35 (.514) field goals and 13-of-16 (.813) free throws.
Tucker Sees Double
P.J. Tucker posted his 15th double-double of the season and 27th of his collegiate career with his 15-point, 14-rebound performance against West Virginia on Thursday. His 27 career double-doubles rank sixth in UT history, while his 15 double-doubles this year are eighth in school history on the single-season list.
Tucker Does It All
P.J. Tucker has proven to be one of the nation's most complete players this season. Tucker leads the team in scoring (16.2 ppg) and rebounding (9.4 rpg) and ranks second in field goal percentage (.519). He also has posted a team-best 65 steals and ranks fourth in assists (100).
Paulino's Big Shot
Kenton Paulino hit the biggest shot of his collegiate career to lift the Horns into the "Elite Eight." Paulino converted a deep three-pointer at the buzzer to win Thursday's contest against West Virginia. It marked his first buzzer beater at any level of basketball. This also marked UT's first game-winning shot at the buzzer, since P.J. Tucker hit a runner in the lane as time expired in a 79-77 overtime victory at Providence on Jan. 5, 2004.
Paulino in the Postseason
Kenton Paulino has been steady at the point for the Longhorns during the postseason. In six postseason contests, Paulino is averaging 11.7 ppg while converting 14-of-34 (.412) three-pointers. He reached double figures in scoring in all three of UT's games during the Big 12 Championship, averaging 15.7 ppg while hitting 17-of-31 (.548) field goals.
Bench Contributions
Both A.J. Abrams and Mike Williams provided solid efforts off the bench for Texas in Thursday's win against West Virginia. Abrams had nine points and seven assists against just two turnovers in 29 minutes. He had the assist on the game-winning three by Paulino. Williams added nine points (4-of-4 FG), seven rebounds and one block in 20 minutes. It marked Williams' highest point total since he had 10 points against UT-Pan American on Nov. 29 (span of 25 games played).
Abrams Making an Impact
The lone true freshman on this year's team, A.J. Abrams has made an immediate impact with the Horns. Abrams, who has played in all 36 games (one start), ranks sixth on the team in scoring (6.4 ppg) and minutes played (21.3 mpg). He is second on the squad in assists (3.1 apg). Abrams also has converted 39.3% (44-of-112) from three-point range.
Abrams Steady in Postseason
A.J. Abrams certainly has not played like a freshman during the postseason. In six postseason contests, Abrams has averaged 8.3 ppg while posting 26 assists against nine turnovers (2.89-to-1 raio). In three NCAA Tournament games, he has averaged 8.3 ppg and 4.3 apg.
Williams Better in the Big Dance
Mike Williams has upped his production during the NCAA Tournament. In the first three NCAA tourney games, Williams has averaged 4.3 ppg and 5.0 rpg in 17.0 mpg while converting 6-of-6 field goals.
Horns Set Games Played Mark
Texas played its 36th game of the season on Thursday night. This set a school record for most games played in a season (previous mark: 35 in 1991-92). A.J. Abrams, LaMarcus Aldridge, Daniel Gibson, Kenton Paulino and P.J. Tucker all played in their 36th game of the year which broke the school's individual mark for most games played (previous record: 35 by Albert Burditt, B.J. Tyler, Tony Watson and Benford Williams in 1991-92). In addition, Aldridge, Gibson, Paulino and Tucker all made their 36th start of the year, also eclipsing the school record (previous: 35 by Benford Williams, 1991-92).
Free Throw Disparity
Texas has MADE more free throws (538) than its opponents have ATTEMPTED (509) entering Saturday's game. The Horns are 538-of-740 (.727) from the stripe, while its opponents are 362-of-509 (.711). In UT's three NCAA Tournament contests, the Longhorns have hit 51-of-65 (.785) free throws, while their opponents are 21-of-33 (.636) from the stripe.
Three-Point Streak
The last time Texas did not convert a three-pointer in a contest came on Dec. 18, 1990, in an 87-84 overtime victory at UC-Santa Barbara. The Horns were 0-of-2 from beyond the arc on that day. The Longhorns enter Saturday's contest having hit at least one 3-pointer in 509 consecutive games. In fact, UT has converted at least one three in 637 of 644 games since the trey was introduced prior to the 1986-87 season. The Horns have failed to attempt at least one 3-pointer just one time in school history (Feb. 24, 1988; at TCU, 69-55 win).
Barnes in Year Eight at Texas
Head coach Rick Barnes is in his eighth season at Texas and sports a 191-75 (.718) mark with the Horns. He has compiled a 393-209 (.653) record in 19 years as a head coach at George Mason, Providence, Clemson and Texas. Along the way, he has guided his teams to a total of 14 NCAA (current streak of 11 consecutive) and three NIT appearances.
Barnes in the Big Dance
Texas coach Rick Barnes is making his 11th straight trip to the Big Dance this season. Following Thursday's win, Barnes improved to 12-7 (..632) at Texas in NCAA Tournament games. The 12 NCAA tourney wins are the most by a UT coach (previous mark: Tom Penders, 10-8 mark in eight appearances). Barnes now sports an overall record of 14-13 (.519) in the Big Dance.
