This is pretty old news, but for those who were not aware, Superman II will be re-released on DVD this November with the "Richard Donner Version". This version was 70% completed when the first Superman (directed by Donner) was released, but Donner was not brought back to complete the second one. Richard Lester was hired and reshot/rewrote a significant portion of the movie.

I didn't like Lester's Superman II and was surprised when he returned for Superman III. I loved his direction in A Hard Days Night and Help!, but Supey flew below his radar.

IMO Alex Ford's would have been the best route to take the franchise... but WB execs don't know anything about comics.

I saw the Richard Donner Cut for Superman II last night....

IMO WB executives made a serious error in running Donner off of the original project... Superman III and IV were a farse... which is why Superman Returns cues off of the events of Superman II without a mention to the events in III or IV.
