There is only one Football... it is played with a Ball, using Feet. Rugby is a bit like American Pigskinball, but without Helmets and padding...
BUT why call it that when u play with the ball in your hands for most of the game ?

vs. the Holocaust??
Honestly, it's pretty close.
Well, it's obvious, becaue Knute Rockne invented the forward pass!
Nothing like a little bit of international diplomacy...
And the reason we call it "soccer" stems from the English Football Association. In the 19th Century, football by EFA rules came to be called Association Football, or "soccer football" for short, to distinguish it from the "rugby football" class of games.
In the U.S., rugby football diverged into two different sports, one of which came to be called "rugby" and the other "football."
i ment in general , if u was to ask most ppl here why its called football they would mostly say the same thing
I got it from an ESPN commercial....anyone see it?
That's called a "false etymology." Consensus does not necessarily imply truth.

Welcome to all our new British friends. I'm sure you and the Argentines will get along just dandy.
Stephen, welcome to the site!
hahaha... I have that same issue here in Australia... everyone calls football, soccer, and Australia Football (which is played with hands and feet) football. Even worse, further up the Northern Coast of Australia, they call Rugby, Football...
Australian Football is the greatest game ever invented.
