I'll bump this in November when you are out of the playoff running.
No you won't, you'll just embarass yourself because we'll be leading our division and very much in the playoff hunt.

I agree with that but 1-0 in the preseason is meaningless.

Good points all but I still can't put much stock into pre-season success.

Oh well, just my .02, not a suggested course of action.

It's not about the win, it's about evaluating the players and coaches. Since this is the 1st game as an OC for Garrett, it was important to get it off to a good start. I'm a coach's son and grew up scouting and working tape as a young kid and continued into an active football player. I like the preseason for evaluating players and coaches that are new to the team or are new to the league.

Just because there are people like midget who don't know jack about the game and don't care to evaluate doesn't mean nobody should. I enjoy it.

The win means nothing, but there were a lot of things to look at that begin to show where this team may be come September.

Very few mental mistakes. I figured the rash of false start pentalties would return with Parcells gone. Nice effort all around. No pass rush to speak of from the first unit, but they were playing a rather decent offense with a smart QB. As good as one could expect.

Is Pam Oliver pregnant? Her breasts look like they weigh a ton. Yes, I was staring.

She always looks great, but TV doesn't typically tolerate women that aren't 15-20 pounds underweight, so I figured she must be expecting.

Last time the Cowboys went 5-0 in the preseason, they finished 1-15 in the regular season.

I REALLY hate it when we win preseason games.

The difference was that Jimmy Johnson actually tried to win preseason games. Tom Landry used to try to lose them. I like when they lose games because it gives them something to work on. They just had one of those nights where they got every bounce, and everything went their way. That don't happen every game.

Let's actually talk about the game. What do you all think about it?
I noticed that we need to work on a few things. Pass protection, pass rush, and the running game.

Pass rush was okay at spurts. Spencer and Ware nearly got to Peyton Manning twice in that first drive. But the lack of pressure to the qb is why that long pass to Harrison was completed as well. Give credit to Indy's oline as they blocked very well on that play. But we cannot give qb's like him or Brady that much time to evaulate the field. They will pick us apart every time. I think we ran vanilla plays, but I hope that's just an abberation. Spencer is going to help tremendously on this defense btw.

Pass protection needs help. Romo had to deliver the ball much to early at times in his two possessions. One was a nice completion to Witten but he barely got that off. The other one he threw him double or triple coverage after barely getting that off to begin with. On that play, he had Witten WIDE OPEN for a touchdown. The oline didn't look that bad though. We improved a bit and we missed two of our starters.

Running game was so-so. I thought Julius looked good out there. Marion struggled at first but got better in the 2nd quarter. Not to much to say about that until the 2nd game next Saturday.

I like Jason Garrett beating the out of the quarterbacks I like his enthusiasm and how he used the tight ends in his system.

anyone else have any thoughts or disagreements or agreements for that matter lol.

im not worried about our pass rush yet, because Wade said that he wouldnt dial up the blitzes until the regular seasons. he doesnt want to reveal anything or look like he's getting too compe ive in the preseason. Leonard Davis looked very good. it just seems that when people go to the Cardinals they are cursed. i was surprised how much Fasano got used.

well the Colts are 1-10 their last 11 preseason games so there should be nothing to worry about. I mean this isnt like the Raiders of last year who went undefeated but everyone knew they would suck cause their starters were abysmal and their backups would have to squeak out the win every game. this one im not too worried about. neither team seemed like they were throwing everything out there.

its a shame that one of these teams had to win

Pass protection will get better when they get their two starting tackles back. Although, the two back up tackles did a pretty good job imo.

Wade said he wasnt going to show all of his cards at any point in the pre-season, saying he would wait until Sept 9th for that. The d will also look better when it has Ken Hamlin who is the qb of the defense, and Ellis back in it. Junior Glymph made a couple of nice plays, and I think he will be a guy to keep your eye on during this pre-season. I also really like Jason Hatcher, but hes hurt right now, dont know when we will get another look at him. Still would like to see more from Canty and Spears though, big year for those guys. I also liked having Roy at the line of scrimmage covering, he seemed much more adept at that. Spencer looked quick, and once he catches up to the speed of the game, will be a good contributor.

Julius looked good, a lot better than I have ever seen him run in a pre-season game.
The return to the use of a fullback was great, and Polite was opening holes in the running game, and stayed in for pass protection, and didnt miss any of his assignments. It also allowed for the runningbacks to come out of the backfield for passes, something Parcells rarely did, instead using his rb's for pass protection.

Fasano looked really good, and if he turns out being the secong round pick we used on him, the offense with him and Witten plus the recievers will be almost impossible to match up with.

Leonard Davis looked great, didnt miss any of his assignments, and was just leveling people out there.

Romo looked sharp, was very accurate and when the regular season starts, expect the offense to be taking a lot of shots downfield, especially when Glenn our speed threat comes back on the other side.

Garrett's playcalling was really, really good, mixing it up and keeping the Colts defensive coordinator guessing pretty much the whole game. I also loved his enthusiasm, and the players seemed to like him a lot.

Matt Moore, I still need to see more from him, but for his first game he looked like he could be a good 3rd qb to work with and bring up from the inside. Kid seemed to have all of the tools.

Tyson Thompson was running hard and is probably going to force the coaching staff to give him carries in the regular season.

All in all, it was a good showing by the starters and coaching staff, although it doesnt mean right now, just nice seeing the new team out there

The best thing about this game IMO is the in game play calling of Garrett. That is one thing that you can really evaluate in this game against a team like Indy. No matter if the starters or 3rd stringers are out there, both systems are the same and I was really looking to see what Garrett was going to do with the matchups presented.

The absolute best part of the playcalling was the offense taking what the defense gave them. Indy plays the old Tampa Cover 2, or Dungy Cover 2, where the safeties stay back to double the deep routes. That kind of defense is effective at taking away the deep routes and forces the offense to be consistent and patient in order to move the ball down field. That coverage means that there will be 7 in the box, so the O has to run the ball. The Cowboys did that fairly well, and more importantly Garrett called the plays to take advantage in the running game. With the coverage taking out the outside and deep routes the offense has to work the flats and especially work the TE. Witten had a good series, Fasano had a couple of good series, and the 3rd string TE Curtis had a very good series - all indicating Garrett's emphasis in play calling to get the TE in underneath routes. In order to beat that Tampa 2 D you have to put together consistent drives that take small chunks of yardage on the ground and in short routes. In 4 of the drives the Cowboys O had over 9 plays and controlled the ball.

On the negative side, the red zone starting O couldn't put up 6 on two attempts. Definitely something to work on in practice.

The O Line looked very good considering McQuistan and the rookie Free go the starts, and hopefully will look really strong with Adams and Columbo.

The D is going to be hard to evaluate without Hamlin and Ellis, and with being so vanilla in preseason.

Zero turnovers, very few penalties for a PS game is very good.

Now it's time to be consistent and put up more good performances leading into the season. The team has the talent, but consistency will decide if they are a contender or not. I think the coaching will be good and it will be up to the players to execute and win tough games. There's no more excuses left, now it's time to put it together.

I totally agree. I was pleasantly surprised at how relaxed and dialed in everything seemed. Good mixture and good timing in each possession didn't leave me feeling like "WTF are we doing" I used to get all the time last season.

I like the out of this 3rd sting QB guy. Too soon to tell but he looked good nonetheless.

I was a little concerned with the lack of pass rush, I only hope that Wade and Stewart were holding back on the blitz packages. It also seemed like DeMarcus was blitzing every down, which I'm not sure I like. He is a terror behind the LOS, but he is also good in coverage. I'm not sure if getting more Blitzes for DeMarcus at the expense putting Bradie James into tougher assignments is worth it.

Man I look so prophetic now, since I predicted this Cowboys win hours before kickoff yesterday. Seriously, preseason is a bunch of bull . It's just foreplay. Something to get you hard before the real thing begins. Colts are 1-9 in the preseason from '05 to yesterday. I don't see anyone writing them out of the playoff picture.

Preseason is a bunch of bull and all of you look like a bunch of preteens who just discovered masturbation for the first time.

It took Dallas' starting O like 10 minutes to get a FG. It took Peyton less than 4.
