Spurs: Duncan OK after leaving game with injury
Jeff McDonald
Express-News Staff Writer
It appears that Tim Duncan’s frightening fall in the first half of the Spurs’ victory over Portland on Sunday was a scare and nothing more.
He has a bruised right knee and sprained right ankle – and is unlikely to play in Wednesday’s game against Dallas – but he seems to have escaped serious injury.
The Spurs will await the results of a Monday MRI before breathing a full sigh of relief, but team doctors say there doesn’t appear to be ligament damage to the knee.
A timetable for Duncan’s return won’t be known until after his MRI. Torn knee ligaments, however, probably would have cost him his season.
“It’s more scary than anything else, at least that’s what I’m hoping,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said after his team finished a 100-79 victory over the Trail Blazers without its star. “I hope he won’t be out for very long, but he will probably miss a little bit of time.”
Duncan was injured with 7:40 remaining in the first half when he got tangled up with Portland’s James Jones while jostling for a lob pass.
As Duncan fell, the lower portion of his right leg buckled underneath him.
He remained prone for several minutes, in obvious pain, and eventually required help to get to the locker room.
I'll be praying that Timmy will be ok... wow, this is really sad![]()
No I just want the best rivalry in the nba to remain that way!
damn. it feels like i lost a family member. pleaseee timmy please be ok. damn..
Tim will be fine and back soon. I'm not worried. I'm more concerned about how the choking spirit of the Houston Oilers has been channeled into the Houston Texans.
That's cool...I always get a kick out of your "angry" postings![]()
I would think this would be a good time for Big Shot Rob to get involved.
Horry saw some minutes today.
Anyone have any of the postgame comments from Pop about Timmy??
This, the rest of the article is on the bottom of page 4 of this thread.

Thanks, sounds like he is OK, and the MRI is just a precaution. I am keeping my fingers crossed, a year without Timmy is a year down the drain.
More motivation for Timmy to kick asses come playoff time.
Who's gonna start at PF? Will Pop experiment with smallball or stick with a big like Bonner down low? I hope we could get Mahinmi back.
Wonder how well we'll play against the Mavs considering we'll have to go small.
How horrifying to be gone all day and see headlines about Duncan leaving the game with a knee injury when I came home.
Thanks for the updates.
Hope he's ok, doesn't miss a lot of time, and that the team does well without him.
Figures now that we are playing awesome ball. Why do all my teams have to have something happen to them this year....![]()
I was worried when he stayed down so long, but much less worried when I saw him walking out. Elson and Horry were helping him til they got near the tunnel, and Duncan told Elson to go back to the huddle. If he had really torn anything, I imagine he would've been carried off. The arena production staff refused to show the replay -- that pissed me off more than anything.
It does not sound serious lets hope that it isn't. What i want is to hear tomorrow that Timmy is fine, he'll be out a few games and then go out and beat the Mavs minus Timmy. Now that would be sweet.
Ugh, good thing Spurs have a 3 game homestead coming up. Parker and Ginobili have been playing at a very high level lately so I think the Spurs will be ok. Undoubtably they'll probably end up losing a couple games they could have won with Duncan, but Bruce, Manu, and Parker are more than capable of picking up the slack.
Come back soon Duncan!![]()
I hope Tim's back and healthy come playoffs![]()

Good luck timmy....still early in the season....
What a horrible thing for me to read first thing in the morning. When the franchise is hurt, it just reminds me you that despite how good anyone else on the team is playing, it all means without the main man. Get back soon, Timmy.
On a related note, I'm thinking it might be time to start Manu now. Defenses will still have trouble containing Manu and Parker at the same time.
