Millsap is likely to be frustrated, though. It's one thing to back up Boozer, who was already on the team, but it's another thing to acquire his replacement. Probably feels like he's played the good soldier role long enough and is deserving of starting.
Was just thinking the same thing... I feel for the guy.

No surprises there, and a very nice contract for the Heat.

Big pickup for the Jazz. He's not the long, athletic shot blocker they still need inside, but he'll replace Boozer's scoring and rebounding. He's not as good a face-up shooter or as good in the pick-and-roll as Boozer, but he's a better back-to-the-basket scorer.

I know he had major knee surgery and inevitably struggled (at least by his standards) last season, but he's likely to bounce back next season and if he does, this is a steal. He's 25, a bonafide 20/10 guy when he's right and is signed for 3 years/$42 million. With the money being thrown around this summer, if he's fully back to where he was two seasons ago next season, that's a bargain.

! WTF? Millsap is fantastic and I thought they would use him as the starter this year. Seriously, that makes no ing sense.

I traded for Millsap late last year in DL II on the expectation he'd take over from Boozer. FAAAAARK!!!

This is the same website who posted a Tiago interview before free agency start.
    http://balanacesta.blogspot.com/2010...a-parte-1.html

Today they reported Tiago signed a 3 year deal, but no info on the money yet
    numbers from yahoo

    http://twitter.com/WojYahooNBA/status/18393536959
Tiago Splitter contract is actually 3 years for $10.9 million with Spurs, league source says. He will make $3.4 million this season.
very very good deal for the Spurs. leaves about 2.4 million for other FA.
Spurs could offer a 3 years / 7.5 million contract. quite nice if they target Bell or Jones.
or (as Bruno guessed) they sign Richards to a 3 years contract, I guess it would need to start at 762K. in that case they have about 1.6 M left, they could still offer something like a 3 years 5.2 M contract. overall still better than a LLE contract.

The min salary for Richards is $473,604. Spurs will still have $1.9M left on their MLE if they use it to lock Richards for 3 years.

I guess Spurs haven't signed Richards because they are waiting to see if they will use all their MLE of if some of it will be left to lock Richards for 3 years. It avoids Richards to play the SL but it isn't a big deal. Richards is a long term project and some SL games are meaningless.

Pat Riley is doing something right. (Micky Arison as well, obviously)
several guys already left tons of money on the table to become part of the Heat. they already have a very nice core now (Lebron, Wade, Bosh, Chalmers, Miller, Haslem) and I don't think this is the end of the bargain signings. (Bell ?, James Jones ?, Ilgauskas ?). this team will have a far better supporting cast, than even the greatest optimists ever guessed.
(not to talk about all the experts who predicted the Heat stars will have to play with 10 minimum scrubs)

All the Heat really would be interested in as a key part of the group would be a Vet Centre. I can't imagine a PG on that team would be handling the ball much, With Wade and LeBron having the Ball in their hands, so they just need guys to defend and shoot. I doubt they want Jarvis Varnado and Pittman as the centre combination.

Also, having such a big chunk of the MLE left should give us a chance at a tier above for a SF who'll be in the rotation. I'd guess Howard, Ronnie Brewer would be really good bets. Not perfect in the knock down corner shooter role, but both can play and defend.

Jazz close to acquiring Wolves’ Jefferson
By Marc J. Spears, Yahoo! Sports

The Utah Jazz are on the brink of acquiring forward Al Jefferson(notes) from the Minnesota Timberwolves, a league source told Yahoo! Sports.

The source called the trade “close,” and Jazz owner Greg Miller appeared to foreshadow it on his Twitter account Monday night. “I just approved a Jazz roster move that I’m very excited about,” Miller tweeted. “Planning to share details tomorrow.”

The Jazz can acquire Jefferson with the trade exception they obtained in their sign-and-trade deal that sent Carlos Boozer(notes) to the Chicago Bulls.

Jefferson, 25, averaged 17.1 points and 9.3 rebounds last season, but struggled at times while recovering from knee surgery. He has three years and $42 million left on his contract.

    Dammit, Kahn!

What possible use do you have for Webster now?

How 'bout the Spurs give you Nando (he's point guard-ish) and Jefferson for Martell?

    Do it . . .

    Edit:

Martell Webster and we'll take Ramon Sessions off your hands for Jefferson (someone who can put points up on the board and give you something to pimp while you suck -- also on a much more reasonable contract) and Nando.

    Now . . .

    DO IT . . .

Maybe they're trying to corner the market on point guards.

Minnesota has sent Al Jefferson to the Utah Jazz for two future first-round draft picks and the salary-cap trade exception, according to a source.

Utah gained the trade exception in the sign-and-trade deal that sent Carlos Boozer to Chicago.

So where is Shaq going at this point? Dallas doesn't seem viable given the Chandler trade and pursuit of Harrington. Miami just got Big Z. Atlanta is now a second (third?) tier team out in the east. Could he really end up with the Spurs? Weird offseason.

Xavier Henry not playing in Summer League b/c of contract dispute. How, given rookie salary scale?

    chadfordinsider

Team customarily give player 120% of salary scale. Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley offered less. Thus ... no Henry in summer league

The Spurs actually got both Ian and Hill to take less that 120% scale in one of their rookie contract years.
