Why people think there is no role for him this season? The Mavs had to play for stretches Stevenson and Cardinal at SF and it was pretty damn ugly...of course he has a role this season.

I just said why. He's not a shot creator or a shooter. Are they going to upset their rotation that's won, what, 17 of 18? I doubt it. He's not good enough to where you do that, particularly when you have a long, rangy wing defender as is (the Spurs don't have that). Even if they did it, coming off the bench with Haywood, Marion and him would kill their spacing.

I'm not saying he won't play at all, but he won't be in the rotation, barring injury. And if Butler returns? He might as well be stapled to the bench.

At 24 years old, it's hard to say that many of us wouldn't have made the same decision to take the $$$.

I would've love to have the kid in S.A. because he would've addressed a specific need for us. However, I can't slam the kid for his decision.

On the Mavs, with the presence of Shawn Marion, DeShawn Stevenson and Peja Stojaovic, Brewer is probably more of a luxury. However, Carlisle loves guys that can defend and should put him to good use.

As for the Spurs, the search for a long, athletic SF continues...

As much as I would love to post this tweet to bring the Mavs down, but clearly this scout must be an offensive bias scout. He plays defense and hustles; a role player. Not every player can score 30 ppg.

Stevenson is 6-5 and got killed everytime he had to play SF. Stevenson is not a SF. With just Peja and Marion able to play quaility SF minutes this isnt a luxury move.

His 384 career 3 attempts include dozens of end-of-quarter heaves. He might lead the league in those. And there's reason to suspect he has the potential to punish defenses that leave him alone: Last year, even with all those Hail Marys, he had a strech of months shooting better than 40 percent from downtown, setting a Minnesota franchise record most consecutive games with a made 3, and prompting John Hollinger to call Brewer perhaps the most improved NBA shooter ever.

Yeah, gotta agree with you here. As I see the Mavs roster, there definitely is a need at the 3 for them. I think he a decent fit and the Mavs can surround him with more than enough firepower to mask his offensive deficiencies.

Makes them pretty big up front too if Carslile wanted to go with a defensive lineup.

He would have been nice here, especially to develop for the future. He isn't going to put anyone over the top or anything like that this year and he is very overrated by the likes of Spurstalk. I still would have liked to have him though.

That is so true. It seems to happen every year too.
We all knew Brewer had no offense, but Chip could have helped there.
It still remains that the Spurs need a defensive stopper.
I hope JA can improve a whole lot before the playoffs or L.A. will kill us, right after they kill the Mavs.

Well he was not our saviour for the search for a long athletic 3, but he would have helped backing UP RJ alot on D, I can't deny that there. I wish they would get a Howard or someone like that, but Brewer would have been fine for a pickup.

If that's your wish, then Jeffers should be fine in that role. He's a lot closer to Brewer than Brewer is to what we've blown him up to be.
