Re Jakob trade it really depends on how the Spurs value Kai Jones. If they've liked him during the draft they might see the Charlotte deal as a good rotation player in Washington + 2 first round picks, which is solid.

The Charlotte deal is intriguing. Continue the tank and rebuild around young, developing talent. I like that.

The Spurs are playing the long game and they have done very well, as numerous posters have pointed out.

It is the first time I have been genuinely excited by Spurs moves on deadline day in 25 yrs.

What if Jakob expressed interest in playing on a playoff team? After Demar, Rudy, and Patty left he might have expressed a desire to be moved as well. Spurs said they wanted a solid player and a pick and that’s what’s being offered

I mean doesn't Kai Jones really suck? It would be another project for the Spurs just to get him up to Poeltl level. I think they even sent him down to the GL. So trading Poeltl for PJ/Kai seems like a bad trade. Though if we can get a lightly protected pick from them then I guess you take the deal. Top4 protected or something bc CHA is gonna be in the lottery

As much as I don’t believe in Kai’s upside being the next Giannis or anything like that, I would definitely do the trade. Poeltl brings a lot of value defensively, but the lack of offensive output is glaring at times.

It is now or never for a Jakob trade, i believe he only has 1 year left on his deal. And it seems Wright ideal roster is a shooter at center.
Yup sell high and get that Kai Jones dream back

I can’t count how many FRP and SRP picks Spurs have, a sizable cap space this Summer, still plenty of movable assets, plus our own top 7? (at least) pick. I hope this get us close to that tier 1 player and top prospect going forward. I hate another tanking season.

So you're trading Poeltl for a guy who can do neither offense nor defense?

I probably do the Charlotte deal if the frp is solid. Kai was high on my personal board last year (12 I believe) based on talent but realizing he's raw and a project.

Our interior D goes to sh!t if we lose Poeltl. Not sure I've seen a deal yet that I'd move him for.

Jones is horrible despite his draft status. Maybe Jak and the Lakers pick for Washington and a lotto protected first in this years draft.

I guess Spurs stacked up on 2nds to do more pick swaps for 1sts. Makes perfect sense. Now the Charlotte deal looks good, but I don't think I'd do it. PJ Washington won't fix anything on this team if you give up Poeltl for him. And there are really no C's who could replace what Poeltl does in FA besides Mo Bamba maybe.

What this team really needs is a sidekick to DJ. I'd much rather move White with the logjam we got at the guard spots anyway and even include one of those firsts we got in a trade for a real upgrade. Doesn't make much sense to me to keep sucking for another 3 years with all the young guys we got already

Very impressed with these moves. Dumped a lot of turds with very clean returns.

Rewind the tape ST, wouldn't you be pretty satisfied if someone told you in Jan that you'd get rid of Bryn, Eubanks and Thad, as well as already shedding transitional mid-point facilitator Juancho (even extracting addtl value w/ Juancho covering small shifts in the mean time), with savvy returns of 2 SRP and 1 FRP (IIRC, lol, lost count here) and burden-less salary?

Could be speaking too soon too, there may be a bit more to come still yet.

Check the source of the Poeltl to Hornets rumor, folks. Such random website. I call it complete bogus. The Spurs aren't giving up their second best player for trash and a FRP. They will seek a good young talent for sure. I would be surprised if they traded Poeltl at all. At best, it would be a smokescreen.

If the spurs are embracing the rebuild then getting versatile young players and a pick makes sense for Jakob.

i wouldnt make that trade for Yak. dude is an awesome value right now. the fact that we have him locked in under 10 mil for next season says somebody is going to have to pry him out

This myth of Poeltl being a really good center is over the top. He regressed heavily over the course of the season and isn’t this defensive monster people make him out to be. This is coming from someone who supported him. I’m not against the idea that it is just a funk, however.

People forget the year Spurs sent RJ to Warriors for Stephen Jackson. The servers died for a while.
