Kenny and Barkley pointing out Pop should have started Tony from game 1...
Nope. I've liked him and every member of the 2007 Golden State Warriors team because they destroyed the Mavs in the greatest upset in NBA history, paving the way for the Easiest Championship in Spurs History.
Kenny and Barkley pointing out Pop should have started Tony from game 1...
Not only should Parker have started, Manu should've come off the bench.
Heh...yeah, there is that.![]()
Not really. I didn't expect much out of these Spurs and I'll admit that I let my imagination run wild after the opening round but the Suns did a good job bringing me back to reality.
This isn't the Spurs team of a few years ago. And this certainly isn't the same Suns team being coached by D'antoni. They're good, and they play a good brand of basketball.
Any ire that I do posses is not aimed at any of the Spurs core but at gutless players like Roger Mason.
LOL
Mason and Bonner are the two most gutless FA acquisitions the Spurs have made in AGES
I agree with being realistic. I agree the Suns have been playing incredible; I have been saying this for over a month. I still cannot believe the Spurs got swept. Losing is losing, but to me, being swept is makes losing significantly worse.
Have to agree that the sweep is very hard to get over.
Yay hay we beat the Mavs!!!
Better team won with the Suns!!!
I will be watching & cheering for the Suns to kick the Laker's sorry azz!!
I can understand that. I dunno, its like I said earlier in this thread that to me getting swept in 2001 was far worse than this. Duncan was in his prime and David was still damn good but they only had one ring. Nearly a decade later we've had some incredible success and a new generation of Spurs come and provide this franchise with a of a legacy.
In some ways I've been expecting these type of days to return for some time. Maybe thats why its easier to accept. 01, 04, 95, and 06 all also hard their parts in making me feel OK about this season because those heartbreaks were so much worse than this one.
I'm still happy about beating the Mavs. That was satisfying as after this ty season.
For sure. This is not a comparative thing for me. This is an in the moment thing. Getting swept sucks. This is clearly not the most heartbreaking loss all things considered.
Yep!!!![]()
Thing is, when the Spurs were swept in 2001 it was to a team on its way to a championship. We knew the Spurs were good, just not good enough.
This sweep means that the Spurs aren't very good at all. It also should be a wake-up call to anyone who thinks that just a couple of tweaks are needed.
At least Manu is not making any excuses in post game.
In retrospect, it's quite apparent the only reason the Spurs beat the Mavs was because Carlisle had no idea how to use his personnel.
I think everyone's eyes were opened earlier this year. Everyone knew the moves did not work out and that the Spurs were good, but not contenders.
Yeah, it does suck. There's no doubt about that.
You guys are both right.
I am totally agreeing with Manny.
The 2001, the 2002, the .04 series, the 06 mavs meltdown, even the 08 loss.
These all hurt so much worse.
Last years hurt even worse than this because it was first round and it was to those ing mavs
This year we all knew we were not that good. We all knew we were not healthy. We all knew Timmy was running out of gas.
We still won 50 games, made it to the second round, banished our 2nd biggest rival (and put the future of their greatest franchise player in doubt)
So what, we still kicked some ass this season, and I'm wishing the Suns all the best.
We're not contenders any more, most of us were saying this prior to the season even beginning.
But our core is still so bad ass that we made it to the final 8.
The biggest thing about this sweep that hurts is that we all need to realize that the Duncan Championship Era is over.
But most of us already knew that in our hearts long ago.
A lot really depends on how good Splitter actually is when he comes over and how much improvement we see out of Hairston, Blair, and Hill. Providing those guys can become better contributers next year I'm not so sure they're THAT much worse.
The biggest fault the Spurs showed this series was the lack of a bench. Fixing that goes a long way to helping the big 3 actually look like the big 3.
Splitter, if 1) He actually comes over & 2) He is decent, should go a long way to helping Tim out.
Spurs need to infuse some youth and energy into the lineup. Replacing RJ with a guy like Malik (not saying him specifically, but someone who can defend well and that can theoretically space the floor in more of a true role) should help a lot.
But I don't see anything being enough to make the Spurs better than LA, ORL, CLE.
So does any one think if Pop retires & we get a new coach, things might change next season????
